The biggest cope/myth in the pokemon community is this idea of the 3 year cycle The idea that the same people who hate the current game will say it was always good in 3 years timeThis simply isn't true, the pokemon fanbase isn't a monolithThe same people who love gen 3 aren't the same people as the genwunners or the people who love gen 6 aren't the same people who think x and y killed the franchise The 3 year cycle is a cope for people who can't handle that people think the current games are slop
>>58491845the “3 year cycle” is just he goomba fallacy. People think its the same group suddenly changing their minds but reality it’s two groups who either always liked or disliked a game. For example, people said that public opinion of Gen 5 shifted. when all that happened is the people who hated it moved on while the people who liked it still liked it. I always loved gen 5 back on release. Meanwhile I still dislike gen 7 even on replays. No one is “suddenly” changing their minds because people are stubborn jackasses so even people who let themselves form biased opinions to dismiss something they disliked won’t change their minds because they think it makes them look weak
>>58491845In a franchise of mediocre games the 'fans' simply reflect on a 'good' things that previous games had that newer installment don't have (because GameFreak loves removing features).Despite all that this 'cycle' is bull. Gen 7 and Gen 8 remain the worst Pokémon games. I'll never look fondly on games that are a chore to replay. I don't know what target demographic GameFreak is targeting with its obscenely long tutorials and handholding. Gen 8 remains the only Pokemon game I just couldn't complete, did 8 gyms and felt like everything was a chore and quit. I can at least find enjoyment in PLA, PLZA and SV (though the crashes in SV was absolutely abysmal).
>>58491845>Toxic fans bitch about itwhen did wanting a series to be good instead of bad become being toxic
>>58491845The only truth is that people like and defend the games that they grew up with as children. There is no objectivity. This is a community that is built on nostalgia.
>>58492007wrong, I actively shit on the games I played as a child. Unless they ended up always being good but I shit on gen 1-3 all the time, and I started playing about 3 months before gold and silver’s US release.
>>58491845It's not "3 year cycle". It's closer to 8 years. Hell, you could see the shift happen in real-time with Hoenn back when /vp/ first opened.
>>58491845The current cycle is GF releases half baked game for quick money -> People buy it anyway -> "GF has some good concepts but messed up on the execution, I am sure next game will be better" -> GF releases half baked game for quick money
>>58491916Gen 5 is HATED fuck off.
>>58491845ftfy
This happens with every game. People get nostalgic and start remembering the good things and forgetting the flaws, especially if was part of their childhood.>>58492090To be fair, you're probably more of an exception. It's the same here. I shit on Gen I and II especially, despite being a huge fan of Gen II on release. In the wider fandom, especially, there are so many nostalgianiggers that dominate the conversation. Especially in the TCG where everyone is constantly like KANTOOOO WHERE IS CHARIZARD. I NEED A NEW CHARIZARD CARD KANTOOOOO 1511111.Fucking nostalgic millennials are cancer.>>58492114You mean /tr/
>>58491845The fanbase is all over the place and often like literally opposite things. But also things get far worse but always in different ways.SV for example, feels far less unfinished structurally / narratively than SwSh, and is a longer overall game, but the performance and visual presentation are just unforgivably bad and a massive step backwards even from SwSh, the breeding system was also complete dogshit. So depending on what a fan values, one will be worse than the other, even if both are obviously far worse than the 3DS games.XY meanwhile is also in a state of being awful, but being less bad than what came after. Kids who started pokemon in 2014 will still believe the series has gotten worse, but think XY was the peak of the series because they never played what came before.PLZA is also a funny one, its a longer, and more polished game than Arceus, but not necessarily in the ways people pay attention to. The visual fidelity is obviously far superior, since Arceus was full of horrific repeating textures, egregious pop-in that completely transformed what the landscape looked like from a distance vs up close (forests completely disappearing from reality for example), and the graphics were straight up broken in multiple areas (you can see underneath all the cave walls inside the Mt. Coronet tunnels, just a zigzag of missing polygons that is completely fucked to look at.But people are used to games looking horrifically ugly in that sense, and a game with fairly sharp visuals, but flat, ends up being way easier to pick apart. Of course PLZA is also based on XY which fucking sucks, while PLA is based on actual good games and gets to coast off of that goodwill.Anyway the point is there's no cycle, there's no copium, there's just bad games and other bad games that are better in the ways certain people like and worse in the ways they dont care about.
>>58492910>You mean /tr/No, not quite that early. The name change had already happened by the time the opinions on Hoenn were shifting from "water trumpets" to "remakes when??"
>>58491845xy are still big contenders for the shittiest games in the series from most people and plza will be forgotten in a month just like pla with no one caring to discuss or replay it. you're a retard
>>58492978>xy are still big contenders for the shittiest games in the seriesnah they're objectively better than the games before them
>>58492983>So easy to the point it's boring>Makes a new battle gimmick that most gym leaders don't even use>Barebones cast>Top 3 worst evil team>Fucking Gen 2 itself has better post-game contentLet me guess you grew up with XY
>>58491845>>58492881
>>58491845XY were pretty well received from what I rememberI do remember Megas were less liked then tho
>>58493660I remember XY being given slack cause of the first games being in the 3ds since the first games on new hardware were usually rough around the edges and got better as the hardware life went on
>>58491845Where did "glaze" come from what a fucking cringe ass zoomer term
>>58493660I remember XY being given slack because they were objectively better than the games before them
>>58493660Nobody likes megasMore like mega cringe lmao
>>58493093>lists things that are problems with every pokemon game and a thing that isn’t even a problem periodTry again.
No one who ever used the word "toxic" in an argument isn't a naggy bitch themselves. Does anyone have that imgur where twitter people were just switching between pseudo insults and flat out death threats over swsh
>>58493966It's meant to compliment the term "roast" for kicking someone down (aka a cringe term millennials came up with)
>>58493971ThisI don't know a single person who actually likes Megas/Terrestrial/Gigantamax shit or thinks they were a good addition to the games. They're such blatant gimmicks. At least in PLZA they kind of act as bosses
>>58494121>I don't know a single person who actually likes Megas/Terrestrial/Gigantamax shittry knowing people who play the games
>>58494138>try knowing only the most autistic of pokemon fansNo thanks
>>58494121erm they looked cool. thats all you need
The Gen 6 games are like the Skyward Sword of Pokemon. They broke the alleged cycle by still being shit even after the following games.
>>58493108I feel like this was only true during gen 3/4/5. When gen 7 came people were still shitting on gen 6 and when 8 came out people were still shitting on 6 and 7. Though 7 has always felt a bit more divisive than any other gen. It's very love it or hate it.
The Gen 6 games are like the BOTW of Pokemon. They broke the alleged cycle by being so obviously better than the previous games that the only people who hate it are jealous zoomers.
>>584962387 and 6 are about as shit as each other, but for different reasons. They appeal to different tastes.
>>58496238>When gen 7 came people were still shitting on gen 6nice revisionism
>>58492983>>58493975>>58496666>>58496776
>>58492114> Hell, you could see the shift happen in real-time with Hoenn back when /vp/ first opened.I refuse to believe that anyone hated Hoenn
>>58497565Hoenn was shit on constantly, it came out as Pokemania died and Pokemon became uncool
>>58496818they really are the quintessential yawnie postsno one else is even autistic enough to post metacritic scores for genwarring in 2025
