My headcanon is that Cynthia had an intense affair with Lusamine when they were younger. Then, she groomed Caitlin for a while until she met Dawn and fell in love and settled down. In fact, Cynthia broke up with Caitlin and slept with Dawn for the first time at the same night. Now Cynthia and Dawn are married. Writing a fanfiction about this. Also, it is common and normalized in the Pokémon workd to have a, let's say, younger partner. In fact, I use the word groomer but it only makes sense in our world.
