The better Pokemon's graphics get, the more lifeless it feels. It was a game that relied heavily on the player's imagination to fill in the gaps, so the more gaps are (badly) pre-filled, the less appealing it becomes. It has very much become a "what you see is what you get" franchise. All mystery or imagination has been surgically removed from it.
