the only starters you could try to argue are intentional references to the chinese zodiac specifically are infernape and emboar but even then they're based on different aspects of chinese mythology unrelated to the zodiac

Blaziken, Emboar, and Incineroar definitely count, Chaizard counts enough for normal people, Typhlosion barely counts based on a Japanese pun, and Delphox just doesn't remotely but everyone was in denial enough at that point that they thought it was fine. It was fucking retarded, but up until Gen 6 you could almost get away with believing it. Of course Skeledirge was the most blatantly obvious "fuck you it's not real" they could give so everyone who didn't get a clue could in fact get one, but the point still stands that they made some slightly odd choices (Incineroar less so, Tiger Mask is a big deal).

Don't get me wrong, you zodiacfags have always been delusional and wrong, but it takes a special kind of stupid to believe the other two on top of that, the water one is genuinely deranged and it would be trivial to find an extinct animal that 'fits' everything here because just about everything alive today has an extinct relative that is essentially the same thing
