Because the SwSh evos were just to show off a shitty Gigantamax gimmick that basically went unused because they were completely unappealing shitmonsHydrapple takes the Apple "Wyrm" pun and combines it with a Japanese folklore concept as a way to tell a story with Kieran becoming a much more malicious character despite being so unassuming at first. It's also like a metaphor for how SV attempts to rectify a lot of SwSh's shortcomings directly by building off of that game to show they learned a thing or two about game design, same with Duraladon's evolution

I think Flapple is a good idea and also feels like a natural progression, just maybe could have been excuted a little better with the apple slices actually fused to it instead of looking like they're tacked on. Could do with an evo that pushes it furher too.Appletun is nonsensical dogshit however. I'm glad now that Hydrapple exists people are rightfully being more critical of it.
