>>58499377I mean, I'm 6'2 so they're little
>>58499355It's a really cute and wholesome animation but I hate that it's obviously going to encourage the most degenerate, disgusting and unsavory parts of the Pokemon community that we all wish would just dissolve into a vacuous nothing.
>>58499521>oing to encourage the most degenerate, disgusting and unsavory partsLike handholding?

>>58499521Have you seen the already existent fan art? Degeneracy was already in the menu, at least now part it is directed in a kind of wholesome direction
>>58500642I could never get into most of the arts of Garde out there, most of the time it's some oversexed garbage that barely resembles her

I'm not sure how I feel about this short. On one hand, they showed her sleeping on a dog bed, so that wasn't cool. But they also gave her a lot of personality and made her the main character alongside her trainer rather than just making her an extension of him. They also showed her risking her life for him, so that's a pretty big deal since it's the first time ever that a gardevoir's actually been shown doing that, and they even contrasted her against those other two pokemon who caused the crash. It's great to see that aspect of her species for the first time. Other than the dog bed thing, it was a really really cool short.
>>58503299Confirmed tastelet. The dog bed was the best part. She's a good girl.
>>58503321I know that people think it's kinda sexy in a pet play sort of way, but it doesn't make sense and sends mixed messages. She's simultaneously portrayed as a simplistic beast and as a sapient being.
>>58503416It shows how well behaved she is I mean. Pokemon are pets at the end of the day and they drew that line in the sand perfectly there. Many people consider animals to be sapient beings too. This is no different.
>>58503508Being a mere pet clashes with what was shown of her in the short.-- The "Sapient Being" Portrayal (The Positive) --Agency and Personality: Making her a co-star with her own thoughts, reactions, and decisions moves her far beyond being a simple tool or pet. She has her own will.Heroic Sacrifice: By consciously choosing to risk her life for her trainer, the narrative frames her as a moral agent. She isn't acting on instinct; she's making a calculated, selfless choice based on loyalty and love. This aligns perfectly with her species' Pokédex entries.Narrative Contrast: The direct comparison to the self-serving Pokémon who cause the crash and flee makes her actions even more noble. It positions her on a higher intellectual and ethical plane. She is not just a "beast"; she is a guardian. This side of the portrayal treats her as a person in a symbiotic partnership with her Trainer.-- The "Simplistic Beast" Portrayal (The Negative) --Then there's the dog bed.The Symbolism of the Dog Bed: This isn't just a quirky, cute detail. In visual storytelling, every element is a choice. The dog bed explicitly places her in the role of a pet, a domesticated animal. It undermines the very sapience the rest of the short worked so hard to establish.Cognitive Dissonance: It sends mixed messages. Is she a respected sapient partner? Or is she a creature that belongs on a pet bed on the floor? The latter choice reduces her to an object of ownership, not a partner.-- Navigating the Mixed Messages --So why would the creators do this? There are a few possibilities, and none are mutually exclusive:1. Lazy shorthand for "Cute and Domestic": The animators might have simply reached for a quick, visual trope to signify "this Pokémon is a beloved part of the household." In many cultures, a pet bed is the immediate symbol for a cherished non-human family member. They may not have fully considered the implications for a creature established as highly intelligent.(1/2)
>>585036652. Unintentional Subtext (The "Pet Play" Reading): As many have noted, Gardevoir's design has been subject to certain fan interpretations for years. The combination of a humanoid, elegant, feminine Pokémon being placed in a context associated with pet ownership creates a layer of subtext which can easily be read through a fetishistic lens, whether the creators intended it or not.3. An Attempt to Blend Worlds: The Pokémon world has always had a fundamental, unresolved tension: are Pokémon partners, pets, or wild animals? This short, in a microcosm, reflects that tension. The Gardevoir is both a powerful, sapient guardian AND a member of the household in a way that resembles a pet.-- Conclusion --The short is, again, really really cool for finally giving Gardevoir the heroic, personality-driven spotlight it deserves. The act of self-sacrifice is a powerful character moment. However, the "dog bed" and similar choices actively work against that narrative, reintroducing a more simplistic, and potentially undermining, power dynamic. It's the difference between a story about a knight and their master and a story about a dog and their owner. The short tries to tell the first story while occasionally using the visual language of the second. It's great that Pokémon media is making an effort to give Pokémon more agency, but this shows that the execution isn't always perfectly consistent. The short's greatest strength is showing Gardevoir as a sapient being, and its greatest weakness is undermining that very concept with contradictory imagery.(2/2)
>>58503665Not need to take the bed as that negative, think of it in monster girl kind of deal, monster girls have special needs according to their biology as they aren´t straight up humans and sometimes need daily life accesories that fit them and are comfortable for them.
>(1/2)smhrn
Ain't reading all that
>>58503721I don't understand why anon is having a melty that Gardevoir isn't treated like a person. It's... not a person, nor is it 'inconsistent' in being portrayed as one. It kind of never was treated like a human at any point in this story.
>>58503665>>58503673>posting aislop as if the Machine God agreeing with you will convince anybody
>>58504032Because it undermines the rest of her portrayal. For instance, when he's sleeping and he says he's sorry he didn't become champion, what's she thinking? Is she thinking "oh, he's still unhappy about that... I hope he knows I love him either way"? Or is she thinking "meow meow, what's going on, he's making noises I don't understand because I'm just a beast"? They want to portray her as thinking the former, but they give her the imagery of the type of creature that thinks the latter. It just doesn't mesh well.
>>58504102She can just be both things.
>>58504474That sort of dynamic absolutely works with characters who you just aren't supposed to think too hard about. Brian from Family Guy, for instance. But the Pokemon world is ostensibly supposed to be a coherent setting with a human/Pokemon dynamic that makes sense. After all, the relationship between humans and Pokemon is the overarching theme of the entire franchise.
>>58504547You aren't supposed to think too hard about Pokemon either you sped
>>58504102How stupid do you think animals are?
>>58504574I'm not saying it's supposed to be super deep or anything, but it's at least supposed to make sense. It's not like the Pokemon are gag characters.>>58504581They're smart, but they're not smart enough to understand competitions or championship titles. When you take a dog to compete in a dog show, it doesn't know it's in a dog show. No nonhuman animal in this world will ever think anything close to "I hope he knows that I love him all the same whether he's the champion or not". Humans are the only animal that can think that thought.
I think you guys are drawing a bit of a false dichotomy here. Not only can you get dog beds for humans, but the incredibly wide variety of Pokemon body plans means dog beds of various sizes make a lot more sense for Pokemon than regular beds do. In the 1980s tech Mystery Dungeon setting I'm working on, such beds are the most popular among city dwelling Pokemon for exactly that reason. (a more modern iteration on the hay beds we see in the PMD games)Moreover, it seems as if the short was suggesting Gardevoir sleeps kneeling up, kind of like how DnD elves go into a trance rather than truly sleep. If that's the case, a regular bed would be completely useless, but a super-soft thing you can comfortably kneel on is perfect.I don't see why a Pokemon can't be more than a mere pet but also still find a dog bed comfy.
>>58505876It makes sense for Gardevoir too, unless it specifically wants to let its guard down and fully relax with its trainer, it'd probably prefer to sleep in a guarded, meditative position so it can respond ASAP to potential danger.People forget this thing's entire existence in partnership is its overwhelming bond with its trainer and commitment to protecting them no matter the cost, fucking freak can open literal black holes if the trainer's life is on the line.
>>58505876>>58505905In Pokemon Sleep Gardevoir has three sleeping poses: Sleeping while kneeling down, sleeping while sitting, and sleeping on its side. So the cushion bed is just how this Gardevoir prefers to sleep, ready to protect its trainer if anything happens.
>>58505968I've always assumed they dont actually have legs and are just floating dresses, but apparently I'm wrong.
>>58504032Gardevoir is always portrayed as a pet animal
>>58508347>generic dialogue that every single species of Pokemon usesNot necessarily, Gardevoir is more like an elven guardian.
>>58499355save me, she has been talking about something for the past 3 hours.
>>58508401Holy shit your pokemon can talk??
>>58508347If that was a specific Gardevoir interaction then sure, but it's generic that every pokemon has.Try again.
>>58499411Hey there Volo.
I swear one day the lore will create "sentient forms" that make Meowth canon but also create a separation between battle pokemons and "people" pokémons that people can fuck.

>>58508795I wish we had a third fossil fighters game.... after the success of FF and champions, surely a release on the 3ds couldn't have gone sour due to incompetence or anything of that nature, right?
>>585090193DS would have been perfect for another game, sad it never panned out, but I'd rather it ended on a high note instead of pumping games out, adding dumb gimmicks like adding vehicles or something stupid like that.
