So why is it that the mainline games are guaranteed to sell like hotcakes while the spinoffs will often flounder and fail?
>inb4 GameFreak
People don't give a shit about GF just look at how well their non-Pokémon games do. Hell when ILCA made BDSP that still sold well so whoever the developer is doesn't seem to matter
>inb4 brand recognition
If that's the case then why do the spinoffs which have the same brand power behind it fail to sell?
>inb4 phone game
I'm not talking about the phone games that's an entirely different market
>>
two versions means multiple people buying them both

Because despite what seething shitposters want you to believe, people genuinely enjoy the core gameplay of the series.
>>
Because the spin offs were shit like "baby's first rail shooter/rougelike/pinball/card game/touchscreen game", all of which adults had experienced and relegated to their pasts and were unlikely to pick up a pokémon, home console RPG's that were different enough to turn people off from (aside from the associated home console cost) or battle sims which outside Gen 1 have never sold any significant numbers, due to most people not giving a fuck for multiplayer pokémon battles, let alone multiplayer pokémon battles, but on the TELLYBOX :D

Pokémon’s popularity waxes and wanes. Hell, even as a longtime fan of the franchise, this year was the least time I was ever engaged with anything pokemon.

That said, the mainline games are released in perfectly convenient or well engineered times, such as debuting XY with the 3DS or releasing at SV at the peak of Switch 1 ownership numbers. This has been the case since the franchise started, and Game Freak + Nintendo clearly put special focus on when’s the best time to release a mainline title. I dare say they’ve done the financially right thing of releasing a Legends title when Switch 2 sales are still low.

because the mainline games are good and the spin-off games are bad despite your contrarianism deluding you otherwise

hope this helps

all games are bad, despite your cope and seethe

Because the main games are actually new and have everything to appeal to every type of player

>new set of Pokemon
>new region
>new characters/story
>new mechanics
>competitive battling
>double to dex size of Legends games
>kickstarts the new gen for everything in the franchise

In BDSP's case it was a remake of a popular game, it was always going to sell well

They havent made a good spinoff since rescue team.
Its all mobile slop now. Which is a shame since I'd play the fuck out of the puzzle ones like cafe mix or shuffle but fatigue systems are gay.

Because most people want to play a Pokemon game, not a game with Pokemon in it.

GF games get new shitmons to introduce.
That's the long and short of it. Very rarely did any of the spinoffs get to feature new faces ahead of them, and those exceptions consistently avoided making them playable anyway.

3DS released two years prior to XY and they IGNORED the 3D effect, as it could harm the target demographic's eyesight, thus released the 2DS alongside it. And SV outselling SS was unprecedented in the series history and not actually down to Game Freak, they release games when Nintendo WANT them to release them to continue support for Nintendo systems. After all, BW released at the "peak" of DS sales, but Nintendo had already poisoned the western market and highlighted how worldwide simultaneous releases were needed badly (probably would have had a better showing, had the west got it BEFORE the 3DS like Japan did), so it underperformed badly compared to every other new Gen pair they launched.
