how do you feel about the pseudos not being locked to lategame anymore?
>>58505830Yay
>>58505830As long as they're kept as a rare encounter or dangerous encounter, in an out of the way location (not that those exist anymore) or as a gift via a side quest. I would like it if they brought back unique locations for these Pokemon and similarly powerhouse Pokemon for a the single-player campaign (like Slaking, Volcarona, Snorlax, etc.)
>>58505861they did that in PLA which is why its based, usually for alphas though
Rare Pokémon are too easy to get nowadays.
>>58505864Yeah Alphas was pretty much what I was thinking of with respect to "dangerous encounters"
>>58505830>anymorein rby you could get dratini as soon as you get to celadonin dppt gible could be acquired after like the third gym if you knew where to find himin gen XY they have pseudos and dragons all over the placebut to answer your question, i think it's better to not put them in lategame especially because they are pseudos. They almost all universally suck until their final forms, and in games where you get them extremely late in the campaign they suck especially hard because you pick them up 20 minutes before the elite four and they have no EVs, which means they're even more underpowered than they're meant to be.But in games where you can get them relatively early on, those extra EVs actually tip the balance from "deadweight" into "somewhat useful addition to the team"
>>58505830>useless stats>doesn't evolve into something good until the end of the game
>>58505830Platinum was 16 years ago, OP
>>58506393platinum seemed like a one-time thing for a while though, it was an outlier
>>58505830It should’ve always been this way. Let the base stage fight against Pokèmon on a similar level in the early game. Platinum Gible was the perfect way to incorporate the pseudo. You can use Gible for a bit before it evolves into Gabite who is decent right until it’s about to evolve anyway. Throwing a Dreepy at the end of the game to just shove EXP candies into is not satisfying. I asked a friend to trade me an Egg and it did better than you’d expect. A lot of early game mons only have Normal moves and Infestation helps chip away. Having a Pokèmon come at a point where you’re just going to evolve it immediately or just keep it in the party as a EXP sponge seems like a waste of a design imo.
>>58506416XY did it again four years later, again in the very next generation, and once more in Violet. Coincidentally, in all three games it was the pokemon in the OP, Bagon.Game Freak sure does love giving out Bagon early
You get pseudos so early in gen 7 you can get a level 10 salamence
>>58506516It's to apologize for how it was handled in RSE
>>58505830it lets people access cool mons earlierand actually makes their early forms relevantsome exceptions like beldum and dreepy which have abhorrent movepools but at least beldum evolves into something that can do anything after level 20unlike Dreepy which 100% had to be a case of trolling/sadism with its movepool and evolution level
>>58505830It doesn't really matter because the first two stages are generally really bad and they take a long time to evolve.
>>58507076Better than getting it when you're almost done with the game or just beaten the game
>>58507105That's my point. If you want to stick with something shitty for 40 levels, you deserve something good at the end of the game.
>>58506650not as bad as gen 2, which locked Tyrannitar to needing 16 badges (dratini required 8 badges).Metagross being post-elite4 in gen 3 is bad, but not as bad as gen 2 (Salamence requires 8 badges too).
>>58505830what's the earliest you can even get Bagon in ZA?
>>58506650You get enough rare candies in Emerald to pump it up 10-15 levels from 35, possibly even evolving it into Salamence immediately in the process. You weren't evolving a Bagon obtained early in the game the normal way anyway.
>>58507137Tyranitar, Metagross, and gen 5 Hydreigon were cool for being postgame rewards. The only issue was that Lance didn't have Tyranitar in the original games. This was fixed in Stadium 2 where he always uses it.
>>58507137Crystal fixes Tyranitar by making Larvitar accessible as early as Kanto and at a reasonable level to train. 40, so it only needs 15 levels to reach Tyranitar with a big enough playground for it to play with + Earthquake for Pupitar at level 56 if you skip one level. It's not perfect, but Emerald didn't even try to be anywhere near as generous. At the very least they did add a new area for Salamence and Metagross to play around in so they don't go TOO underutilizedPersonally I like early~mid-game Pseudos that require effort to find, catch and get and reward you with a great mon than saving them for the ass end of the game. Dratini and Platinum Gible get it right. Goomy could have too if they actually wanted Goodra to be good instead of giving us Goodra>>58507169If you're dedicating your entire Rare Candy catalogue to just fucking Bagon then it's not worth the effort of catching one to use it against 5 fights tops. It might as well be post-game
>>58507184Tyranitar isn't a flying-type.
