As for trainers, they should have a symbol that tells you their difficulty.

Gym leaders SHOULD be level scaled according to badges, OBVIOUSLY.

And finally, the villain team should act according to badges. They will attack the supermarket but only after you reach 5 badges etc.

Johto shows you a quiet countryside and does a great job telling a story about tradition vs the need to move on from the past. Kanto did a great job weaving in its subplots and BW and SuMo had better characters, but Johto had the best execution of its story. Dipshits whine about the Rocket plotline "not having closure," outing themselves as morons, constantly.

Johto did none of that. When you beat the last Rocket Executive, there is no self reflection about moving on. He's just like "oh I wasn't up for the task, well bye"

It didn't even do the "it doesn't shove the legendaries down your throat" shit well when you're forced to encounter the legendary beasts in Burned Tower. It started the "box legendary" trend by shoving Ho-oh and Lugia in your face on the fucking box. GS started the trend of hyping up the big bad legendaries.
