pokemon being able to shrink themselves is so fucking stupid and breaks the world in so many ways, i have no idea why they decided to keep this lore. for instance, why cant literally every pokemon learn minimize if they can just do that shit? why do pokemon even dodge moves when they can just shrink at will?
>>58522997Thanks for bringing up this tumor again. Gamefreak is retarded, we get it.
>>58522997>why cant literally every pokemon learn minimize if they can just do that shit?because only a few can actually control it>why do pokemon even dodge moves when they can just shrink at will? It's not at will it's something the body does on reflex, Pokeballs abuse this quirk.Honestly it'd be pretty fucking retarded if there wasn't something like this because why else would you not be able to catch a Pokémon when you knocked it out if they didn't have some sort of defense mechanism?
ok, then give me your favorite "why didn't it shrink?" moment

>>58522997They're called Pocket Monsters. They have an uncanny ability to shrink. I like that Pokemon has this baked in fantasy element, despite how hard it's leaned into ecology and environmental storytelling, they're still these weird thumbelina pixie creatures. It's also a cool parallel to Japanese daikaiju. The idea of Pokeballs and the Pokedex came from the Ultra series, but the idea of big monsters shrinking is very Sentai coded. Every Sentai show has its own lore for why the monsters grow big. Some of them really lean into it, some handwave it, but it's transcended into a cultural shorthand. The international popularity of Power Rangers made it something internationally understood. Pokemon builds on those shorthands, and the GameBoy Pocket and Tomy figures turned that lore into metatext. Being Pocketable was a big part of Pokemon's success.
