For me, part of it is that I really like fluffy things to an absurd degree, and humans naturally have no fluff. Many Pokedex entries also mention personality quirks, most of them being appreciable in some way.There's also the literal power dynamics. Something significantly more powerful than me choosing me, and potentially even being submissive? Hell yeah!And finally: I've been burned one too many times when it comes to having friends stay loyal. Pokemon are generally loyal if they like you and don't really require much else to stay loyal to you. This is especially true of the likes of Arcanine.
