I also feel that Psychic types in general also get a bit more play than would be expected for their baseline popularity, though I'd struggle to prove that empirically.

This fucking thing. Not only is it shitty and forgettable, but it's one of those mons where now every game it's in, you'll be forced to carry the Whipped Dream around in your inventory. At least Aromitasee wasn't replaced by a Pokemon that did its concept better two gens later, like Slurpuff was be Alcremie.
