Only time I ever boxed a starter was in my first Black playthrough (my second total BW playthrough) where Snivy was so bad that I just couldn't deal with it. Ironic that Snivy is easily the worst starter in-game when it might be the best one competitively (at least prior to Legends Arceus with Hisuian Samurott + Gen 9 with Mega Emboar)However, I have used Snivy is subsequent playthroughs of BW and B2W2 and stuck with it til the end.

Is drastically worse than chikorita, because at least chikorita lerns the screens, can heal, and status foes.Yeah having a starter be focused on support isn't great, but it fulfilled purpose well. Being unoptimal doesn't equal bad, Snivy is just bad.
