So a lot of your likely favorite tracks are by Ichinose unless you actually find the battle themes any good. It does mean Masuda did compose peak like Johto Champion, Cynthia's battle theme and the Dialga/Palkia themes, but he's also responsible for a lot of ear sores like the FRLG OST

Masuda was a fat, autistic drunk. The games were built around the simples code patterns (Masuda barely knew the basics of making a game) and the plot was made up of a few funny and clever puns. It would hardly have become popular if Masuda hadn't had a constant horde of competent coders around him fixing the games to a publishable state. The booze was running out, but Masuda's only way to deal with it was to make jokes about his excessive drinking because he simply couldn't admit that he had problems with his lifestyle. In the end, the only achievement of this "World's Greatest Game Designer" is probably how many games about drinking he was able to write.

Comparing the gen 1 battle and city themes to their remixes in gen 2, it's just no contest. Gen 1 music was pleasant but pretty basic and bland (except the champion theme which is really good) but gen 2 music is genuinely good

The Trainer Battle theme is the worst downgrade. I think the stupid reverb effect that is on every Gen 1 OST upload has gaslit people into believing that's what it sounds like.
