SV feels like fake numbers where they bought millions of copies to boost numbers themselves. My reasoning for this is that the game is shit so I just don't believe it sold that much. Also no one streams it or even watches the official tournament streams. Super smash bros melee tournaments get more viewers and that game is dead. So it doesn't add up and I refuse to believe those are real numbers no matter what.

Between Pokemon Go reintroducing the series to the public in 2016, and the popularity of the Switch, it really juiced up the sales numbers back to Pokemania tier. Pokemon waned in popularity a bit when Nintendo's consoles were less popular in the Wii U/3DS era. But the premise of Pokemon is just so inherently attractive to people, and TPC have really focused on making the series as accessible as ever on mobile, Switch, TV shows, merch. That's why it sells so much nowadays. Its the combination of a once in a lifetime IP idea that appeals to everyone with accessibility. Now of course when it comes to game quality that's of course up for debate and I agree, getting rewarded for releasing that game with that kinda performance is crazy. But at the end of the day, it's wrong to assume that the better the game, the more it will sell. Hidden gems are a thing for that very reason. Game quality isn't really fully tied to sales.
