My suggestion would be to host raids (be it with PokeGenie, Leekduck or discord servers), and get used to doing it. It's kinda weird ay first but when you get the hang of it you get a lot in return. It might sound unintuitive as you are actively seeking to get the counters you'd use in raids, but doing this will help you 10 times more than catching Pokémon.
We have a good selection of mega Pokémon currently, you should aim for them as most mega mons are very powerful and relatively low investment. Here's a lil guide on what you should raid:
>Nov 4th-11th: Mega Beedrill and Mega Heracross
>Nov 11th-18th: Mega Tyranitar (incredibly important)
>Nov 18th-25th: Mega Manectric and Heatran
>Nov 25th-Dec 2nd: Terrakion and Mega Gatchomp (incredibly important)

You should try to use your daily free raid pass every day. lmk if you have any questions.

Preferably something you wanna raid too, but you can host like tier 1 raids if you wanted to try how the system works.

There's a LOT of people whose gameloop goes like: Get/buy coins -> Buy remote passes, then get/buy coins -> Remote passes and so on.
The speed/time it takes for you to be first in line depends on the amount of remote raiders vs hosts the are. It usually takes 20-30 mins for the queue to get to you, here are some tips:

1) The usual best method was to host a raid when the egg had around 10mins left, but that's not possible now because there are multiple legendaries and megas this rotation. What I suggest you do is host for the mon you want the egg to hatch into, and if it doesn't hatch into it, immediately rehost for the new mon (if you wanna get that Mon).
2) You can "save" up to 2 free daily raid passes if you got the one from yesterday and spin a gym to get today's. You can do this in case the raids around you aren't showing the mons you wanna get.
3) It's worth raiding even if it's not the selected mons I mentioned before. Those are the highlights that you should do your best to get, but raiding mons early on (especially if they're legendaries or megas) is extremely helpful for a new player. Raids give you the encounter (of course) but they also give you a ton of XP and some other goodies like rare candies.

Excadrill is somewhat avaible with good stats thanks to dynamax stat boosts.

Otherwise, check campfire if there is an active community near you, preferable with an ambassador or go where most gyms are in your town during raid hours and look for groups playing. You can hunt them down by looking for raid lobbies filling up or just looking for groups of people staring and tapping their phone. Some might be dual wielding.
If you can find a rl group your mons literally won't matter except for the amount of items you have to use aftwerwards since you'll be hard carried.

First, look up the raid schedule. There's tonnes of megas out there worth getting now.

Get:
Mega Heracross (best bug, second best fighting)
Mega Tyrantar (best dark AND rock)
Mega Garchomp (top tier Ground and Dragon)

Then look up the team rocket grunts that are available now.
From team rocket grunts look out for:
Any dragon
Amaura
Swinub (Shadow Mamoswine is god tier)
Ralts or Kirila
Machop, Gurdurr, Makuhita
Ghastly
Drilbur
Bedum
Magikarp
And any starter

From the team rocket leaders only fight Cliff for his Larvitar.

Ideally you want 3* but honestly IVs don't matter that much unless you're doing pvp or solo/duos.

First. Click on a mon, open the menu in the bottom right, and press Appraise. That'll show you the IVs.

Then look at the half circle above the mon's name. That fills up when you power up the pokemon. That is its, level.

CP basically like the total power of the pokémon based off it's species base stats, IV, and having that pulled through a super complex formula when you level it up.

So lets say that a lvl 30 Heracross with 0/0/0 IVs has 2000 CP.
Now let's say you have a lvl 8 Heracross with 15/15/15 IVs which is at 400 CP right now.
If you lvl up this 15/15/15 Heracross to level 30, it wil have a higher CP than the 0/0/0 Heracross. The total difference is usually only about 10%. So it would have 2200 CP.

If you constantly win, your ELO goes up -> Game puts you against harder and harder trainers. That guide is supposed to help you reach rank 20 with the lowest effort possible. Yup. The strategy is to lose as many optional battles as possible so that you aren't screwed later on, but just follow the guide stating at your level. What you usually wanna see when starting a battle is lower ranked opponents (that means your elo is matching you against them). What you don't want to see is higher rank ones. If worse comes to worst, you can just lose all 5 sets one day and a lower your elo that way.

No, the guide just shows you the fastest/easiest way to reach rank 20. All you need to do to reach rank 19 (from 16) is win 45 battles. They don't have to be consecutive and you can spread them across as many days as you want.

After beating the fused form of Necrozma (so Dawn Wings or Dusk Mane) you receive ~100 either sun or moon energy + an encounter with Necrozma.
You need 1 Necrozma + 1 Solgaleo/Lunala + 1000 sun/moon energy to fuse the Necro with the other legendary in order to get the fusion. If you don't have Solgaleo or Luna you won't be able to get the cool forms, but it's still good to raid them for the energy and to potentially get a high IV Necrozma. Also, you need 1000 energy, which is 7-10 raids, so you gotta grind.

If you have Crowned Zacian or Zamazenta from the most recent Go Fest, then I suggest you just go after Dawn Wings as there's no competition in that category (Dusk Mane is #3 in terms of steel type attackers, behind the dogs).
