Eh, I think this is more because tower demands a very built out roster. They pretty much have to start throwing fair units at us otherwise the lower end players will never progress in it. The average player in this game will never progress past floor ~10 in grass tower without Carmine or fighting tower with SS Bede, etc.
I don't see them actually keeping the EX fair units out of these pools, they'll be added once they're old enough. Outside the banner pool and presents the only bonus they have over regular fairs is a bonus headstart 1-3 passive (and most of the time it's just going to be 1)

Speed is fun when you build a rushdown team that it compliments, but that obviously shifts the focus even more to the teammates and thus you're least likely to use it. She is not that important to have. Her playstyle is based on attack nullification which is distinct from Damage Guard Next in that you don't just stop or weaken the incoming damage but you cancel the incoming attack altogether. So if say the Seviper in the Lucy UB uses Sludge Wave with its guaranteed poison, triple Damage Guard Next would not stop you from getting poisoned, but Wide Guard would. Miriam has the most ways to nullify attacks with (at 5/5) 3 Baneful Bunkers and a Wide Guard that can refresh 50% of the time on top of after any ally Syncs. In terms of application, you don't really need all of that unless dealing with an opponent with very dangerous attacks, like the Noland UB with its Fissure and 10 PMUN Earthquake.
Aside from attack negation, she's also good at consistently loading allies with PMUN/SMUN from her Tera Blast, and she herself can contribute good DPS because she has a solid Atk stat unlike most Supports.
Overall, I would say Atticus has more tools and is easier to pick up if you do paid Selects, but Miriam performs a rare role that ignores however strong enemies wind up going forward.

What I was personally hoping for regarding the set, one of these moves and a buddy version. They just wanted a physical version to mix well with the Hoenn Ground sync pairs, can't explain otherwise but I would have welcomed a chance to burn upon landing an attack too.

Hard to be beat at this too, Fire is stacked, he is a budget version of other units, was released after free anni Florian and crocodile who is a Tech Support with a decent nuke and debuffs too. Other academy freebies have better stuns and debuffs or team boosting TMs, can trap without relying on a specific trapping attack while also have better added effects on their attacks.
They also have easier time at dealing with the academy exams.

Pretty much. He's in the General Pool, so technically, he's always available. You can either make a new account, roll for as many gems they give you, and then delete your account if you don't get him. Or get up to 36.6k gems and choose him directly to show up. I believe one of the links in the OP talks about how to make an account and delete it if you want to go that route.

There are like 6 horribly busted electric-types and I ended up having none of them. I really should have applied actual strategy for units to get. What is worse is that looking at the example victory play against Blue, I do see ones that use NC Selene successfully and I have no idea how to replicate their success even when trying to copy it. I'm going to just give up on this.
