Try to imagine the most divisive feature/change you can think of when it comes to Pokemon games.Mind you, not the worst idea, in fact, it can even be a good idea, but it needs to be something that would split the fanbase in half, lovers and haters, that would constantly fight over it.
>>58624281Forced losses. IE the game pits you against the champion or the main antagonist early on and they massively outlevel you, making winning impossible without trading or unholy amounts of grinding
Replacing the game cries with the pokémon saying their own name like in the anime.Reorganizing the dex numbers.Fusing the Nidorans.Making it so you can use more than four moves in battle within single player.
>>58624281Changing the battle formula in the mainline games (could be press turn battle or real time)
>left, my team in ranked>right, opponent's team in ranked
>>58624528>above, devs getting ready for maintenance
Gym Leaders themed around concepts (only uses forest pokemon, only uses dog pokemon, only uses ancient themed pokemon) instead of types.
>>58624281>games become open world>games no longer let you use every mon
>>58624309>story acts like you lost even if you won
>>58624281New game has male characters only
>>58624708That is a 95% to 5% split
I think the 1-100 leveling system is an outdated RPG concept back when grinding was acceptable. The game throws XP at us to constantly get us back on track.I think we should rework levels into tiers which you earn by gym badges
>>58624708I actually don't mind sausage-fests. Better that than uggos.
>>58624713>95%that many people would love it?
>>58624281The joke is that everything new is divisive because the fanbase is already divided between people who gobble up every new feature/change and the people who hate them. People who like old Pokemon games just want the same game in a new region with new characters and Pokemon, People who hate old Pokemon games want the same region, characters, and Pokemon but in a different game. Make Pokemon first person, right down the middle. Make Pokemon survival, right down the middle. Make Pokemon battle royale, right down the middle. Make Pokemon MMO, right down the middle. Make Pokemon pet sim, right down the middle.
>>58624663That would be divisive. Good thing it'll never happen
>>58624281Nuzlocke as an official mode in vanilla games.
>>58624281Legendaries are removed for the user. And only available as super-bosses, gym-leader Pokémon, lore, etc.
doubles is now the main format for all story fights
>>58624281IMAGINE XCOM. NOW, IMAGINE POKEMON, AND THE STANDARD FORMAT IS DOUBLE WITH TRIPLE BATTLE REINTRODUCED.No, seriously, adding an extra dimension would save Pokemon. Look at how different we treat the “meta” in ZA because of the basis on the 3D environment, THIS is how we should proceed if we are to return to turn-based.
>>58624281Making a gay protagonist
>>58625181Triple and rotation battles were whiffed in gen 5 because you had no way to know before entering. With doubles, you can see in the overworldIt also pisses me off that the way party order was handled between rot. and triple battles is different
>>58624697>get to Wedgehurst>Leon spots you and immediately challenges you to a battle>he only uses his level 65 Charizard>you spend 100 hours grinding against Wooloo to level up a team>manage to actually beat him>”Whoa, impressive! Doesn’t count as a win unless I have my full team, thought!”
>>58625229>you beat him>he talks to you about getting blood clots from spending too much time sitting down and playing videogames.
>>58624409>Replacing the game cries with the pokémon saying their own name like in the anime.Oh man I would hate that so much
All of your Pokemon are scripted encounters, like traditional RPG with a preset cast.No more teambuilding......
>>58624281>The shiny charm is now locked behind never blacking out once>Take away Steel's poison immunity>Give fairy a weakness to normal>Give big speed buffs to random Johto mons so that they become meta
>>58624988this. casuals and smogonfags would explode
>>58625181I never understood people who didn't like the main turn-based battles. They're one of the best things about pokemon. At least when gamefreak isn't overtuning things to absurd levels. There's a reason community competitive has been as popular as it has been: it's compelling, people love it. Adding in another layer like positioning or movement would just be... detrimental. By all means, have it in spinoffs, I actually love xcom so I'd be highly intereseted in it. But make them spinoffs.
>>58626672>>Take away Steel's poison immunity>>Give fairy a weakness to normalthese would probably be seen as a positive overall, no matter who you'd be talking to.
>>58624988This is actually kino
>>58626770No, the gamplay of pokemon should be like fortnite and sex.
>>58626672 >>58626777Why would you take away Steel's immunity to poison? No only would you have to rework Salazzle's gimmick ability, but also it doesn't make sense to me from a story OR gameplay perspective.
>>58624409That would be based
>>58626777That's fair, I should have said give water an immunity to poison and dragon a weakness to rock. But >>58626815 seems to dislike it.
>>58626815>Why would you take away Stee's immunity to poisonFirstly balance and secondly I'd argue that poison's association with acid could justify it.
>>58626833I'm the anon who complained.>water immunity to poisonYeah, now THAT is a divisive change.
>>58624281Make Doubles the single player campaign format, similar to how Colosseum/Gale of Darkness handled it.
>>58624281a good game, it would be extremely divisive, most retards that keep buying garbage nowdays wont buy it since it wouldn't be shit
>>58626815>No only would you have to rework Salazzle's gimmick ability,it should have always let poison hit steel super-effectively. That's what people are hoping it will do when mega victreebel presumably gets it.
>>58624281Satoshi Tajiri leaving and wannabes who didn't get it taking over
>>58624281A well written story heavy game>>58624281, with BF as the post game.
>>58624713>95%So, a 100% failure. Got it.
>>58624281The gen 1 mechanic where every move has at least a 1/256 chance to miss
>>58627093I thought about this as well. Imagine how angry people would be playing through personamon despite how much they complain about in these games.
>>58624409>Fusing the NidoransReally? Because it kinda bugs me that they aren't.
>>58624734But that's effectively a level cap, which never works.
>>58626672too easywhatdouble whatand alola
>>58624281introducing a way to make a regular pokemon shiny
>>58626855Poison should have a move that's super effective against Steel and an Acid Rain weather effect that either removes their immunity or Burns them.
>>58627244If they want to give poison something on steel, they should probably just buff corrosion to make poison types super effective against steel.
>>58627254Yeah, but then you have to give the Ability to more Pokemon. Otherwise, you're not boosting Poison, just creating a more potent niche.
>>58624988Didn't Colosseum mostly do this?
>>58627281Poison probably doesn't need a strong buff, at least not compared to rock or maybe ice.
>>58624281Gen 10 is a sandbox from the door. You literally can start off with 5 Zacian crowns and a mega Rayquaza on route one. Everything else is a normal Pokemon game. There's still a dexcut. Also they can be literally any level, nature, shiny and so on.
Have a transgender Pikachu one shot an OP legendary like Arceus unironically.
Double battles are the norm so you can have at least one attacker and support mon out at all times. Yes, I want Pokemon to become more of a traditional jrpg.>>58624734At that point, I think it would be better to just go the Final Fantasy 2/Monster Rancher route and just have things that raise the stats directly.
>>58624409>Replacing the game cries with the pokémon saying their own name like in the anime.Hate>Reorganizing the dex numbers.>Fusing the Nidorans.>Making it so you can use more than four moves in battle within single player.Love>>58626590For the hypercasuals kinda is
>>58626855I was kind of hoping you'd expand on it because I didn't see steel as a particularly powerful typing.I guess I kind of see the poison-acid connection, but most poison types are the neurotoxin and carcinogen types, so you'd be giving a lot of power to some particularly aggressive mushrooms.>>58627164Think of sheer number of people who would be pissed that the 151 dex was retroactively made the 150 dex. (Granted it was supposed to be a 150 dex, so I guess you'd be making it a 149 dex.)
Ground and Rock get merged into the Earth type.Normal/Flying birds are all retconned into pure Flying.Pokemon now have a stamina system. Buffs now have the side effect of causing Pokemon to lose stamina faster while applied.Switching no longer removes most stat-lowering moves. They go away on their own after a certain number of turns (whether the Pokemon is active or not). Growl and Tail Whip are now meta due to lasting a long-ass time. Most water Pokemon lose their ice attacks.
>>58624281Make Pokémon more mature Kill some characters
>>58624281Keep the turn based battles... but each turn has a short timer to make your choice otherwise your pokemon makes the choice on its own.I'm talkin' maybe 3 secondsNo time for delays, no pauses in battle, go go go
>>58628425Yeah, and the bad guys should say fuck
Physical evasion and special evasion are two separate stats. Increasing defense or special defense will also increase the corresponding evasion. This means that double team & minimize offers omni evasion, which leans it effectively works the same, not giving you reduced damage.
>>58628442if you bump it up to 20 or so seconds it would be even more controversial, because now people still wouldn't have a lot of time to decide but people also wouldn't be able to auto-battle as readily.
>>58628465because they're objectively different mons despite being related by breeding. Really they should make them share a page and make pages more common; not sure how often they did that in gen 8 and 9 (I stopped playing after sun and moon) but having pages for related mons outside of just evolution lines would be best. Like how Eevee has all of its evos on its page (but without it cutting off lmao) but also for stuff like legendary duos/trios/quads, and rival mons and related mons (like shelmet/accelgor and karrablast/escavalier sharing a page, or machamp/alakazam/golem/gengar's lines all being on the same page, or fossilmons all sharing a page) and having new entries for how they're related in addition to their singular entries.
>>5862849320 seconds is a long time to decide a single move. The point is to make the player feel rushed, have a certain level of intensity. The allure of auto-battling is definitely there, though, so perhaps the pokemon should have a chance of not using a move at all if it's friendship isn't high or it's facing an intimidating opponent.
>>58628505>a chance to not use a move when the friendship isn't highHow about we also throw in the chance to just loaf around if they're too high level too(do we even still do that? Haven't played any of the Switch games.)
>>58628505>the pokemon should have a chance of not using a move at all if it's friendship isn't high or it's facing an intimidating opponent.>>58628510>How about we also throw in the chance to just loaf around if they're too high level toothis would actually be a ludo way to bring back actual training/progression with the mons/badges/whatever, having your mon do something on its own, based on its friendship/"skill"/number of badges/whatever if you don't select a move quickly enough. Kinda cool. And would definitely have people REEing over it.
>>58624281Personality based shiny palettesAlongside normal shiny pokemon, Every personality has a specific color palette that has a chance to override the original shiny form
>>58628593That's not divisive. We are all begging for shiny variants.
>>58628523Mystery dungeon has that IQ thing with gummies, maybe that could be tied in.
>>58627228Oo. A final blow to shines.When everyone's super...
>>58624281Nothing GF does can ever truly be divisive anymore because there will always be a critical mass of bootlickers ready to buy and defend it. Dexit proved it.
>>58626770>I never understood people who didn't like the main turn-based battles. It's mostly the presentation of it that puts some people off. GF makes turn-based combat look like the slowest, most boring chore imaginable. Every other turn-based JRPG developer of note has found ways to make it flashier, snappier and more efficient, while GF refises to progress past its DQ1-level system that was already outdated in 1996.
>>58624409>>58624462>>58624988>>58626898only good answers ittfar too much trying to reinvent the wheel or overcomplicate shit>>58627228 is close, but that would just be overwhelmingly negatively received. i think a good version of this for "controversial" would be enabling ball-swapping. some would see it as qol whereas other would seethe that their rareball shinies lost value
>>58628653not me
>>58629963Doubles as the standard would still be less "complicated" than the average JRPG with parties of 3+ characters, especially with how piss-easy Pokemon's campaigns are.
>>58630285Anyone who compares Pokemon to other JRPGs fail to understand that they're two completely different genres. Pokemon is a PvP game. Everything about it was built around PvP. Even the in-game story campaign is framed as a series of PvP matches against story NPCs.JRPGs are PvE and very rarely have any sort of PvP content outside of MMOs.
>>58629974
>>58631615Nonsensical schizo babble not worth correcting
>>58631662The appeal of shinies is their uniqueness and rarity. Turning them into a car dealership would lose everything that makes them special. I hope even if you don't know better at least GF learned their lesson with how badly Furfrou flopped.
>>58631879furfrou flopped because it was yet another mono-normal, single stage shitmon and the mechanics behind its alternate forms were tedious to actually work with, nothing to do with 'muh car dealership'
>>58631879far too frenchplus every poodle I've met has been an asshole and this one looks far too smug
>>58631879Its a shitmon with non casual design. I doubt they wanted to make this the next eevee but furfrou just has a lame design. Its good for a poodle but this thing was never going to take off
>>58631615based
>>58631879the appeal of shinies SHOULDN'T be their uniqueness and every pokémon should have just as many variations as furfrou
>>58631615>Anyone who compares Pokemon to other JRPGs fail to understand that they're two completely different genres. No they aren't. You're just a Game Freak bootlicker trying to rationalize why Pokemon can/should be held to lower standards than the rest of the genre it's in despite having unlimited resources at its disposal.
>>58632610No one said it shouldn't be held to higher standards. You can and absolutely hold Pokemon to higher standards.Real time and double battles aren't "higher standards," though. They're just different.
>>58626295they did that with pikachu and eevee and i guess they went back on it when Legends Arceus came out
>>58624281shinies are locked to a sidequest you can only do during postgame
>>58624734All you are effectively asking for is for the Japanese to use smaller numbers to represent the same amount of progress which they will literally never do because using large, easily divisible numbers is how they literally teach their children math.
>>58632811pikachu has just said "pikachu" since xy
>>58624281We've been in the gimmick era for a decade+ now that making a gen without one would probably divide the fanbase
>>58628593>>58628653I still think we are going to get it someday. In the design documents it is something they mentioned multiple times in Gen 3, gen 4 and gen 7.It just makes sense, species IRL show personality and uniqueness by having slightly different features.>muh brand recognitionPikachu and Eevee are the pokemon with some of the most variation in ear shape, tail style, etc, and they are the face of the franchise, I think the issue is entirely about time and effort.
Bump
Mega evolutions now have the option of being permanent
>>58636819so just converting it to be a fourth stage of evolution?
super effective multiplier goes from 2x to 1.5x, NVE multiplier goes from 0.5x to 0.75x
Ah good, I was looking for this thread earlier. Thought it was gone! Here's my idea: Monotypes get a 1.5x STAB boost, but dual types only get a 1.1x STAB boost.

>>58636819Most of them should have been proper evos in the first place.
>>58624281Special speed.Actually, let's go a step further.Let's add status attack, status defense, and status speed.
>>58624309Pokemon FireRed Rocket Edition did this AND IT WAS KINO
>Toxicity : Gives ANY opposing pokemon, regardless of Typing Held items or Abilities, a poison Weakness. If the target was already weak to poison, that weakness is multiplied by 2. Effect of Poison and Severe Poison is double.
>>58624309ZA should've done this.
>>58636830Yep.>>58636964Agreed, having a pokemon devolve has always seemed wrong
>>58639311If that was a signature move it would just be super cool and thematic. A permanent debuff that's not a status condition would be strong, but to Poison specifically? Of course, it would have to be limited, probably to 1pp like revival blessing. If it was an ability, then the pokemon could just be fine for it; a no-strings-attached 2x damage bonus on presumably your STAB would be strong, but we also have abilities like huge power, which just double attack, already. Only way it would be controversial is if the mon was busted, not the ability. Nobody thinks Water Bubble or Thermal Exchange alone are problems.
>>58624281Remove Gyms entirely, without replacing them with similar concepts like totem pokèmon
