Victory Road is a straight line. Only one Gym is a puzzle and it is bugged (you can redo it right after) and only one I can think of being the Dark Ice Cave. I'm a music composer for romhacks, I get paid quite a decent amount to do so per project, and I'm always careful to make sure my tracks use an appropriate soundset and sound good on GBA. I genuinely don't know how they managed to make Lazarus sound so bad. It's godawful. A fully original OST would have put this thing over the top as a cool romhack but instead it's a romhack that has visuals that aren't as good as its music is bad.

the game is super fucking linear and easy as shit even on the "hard" difficulty. it tries to distract you from how mediocre it is with its gbc inspired graphics but even then i find they clash with the gen 2 overworld sprites. Some of the "demake" sprites for trainers are the ugliest thing ive ever seen (like the gen 3 beauty sprite demake) at that point just use the sprite from gsc. It tries to pad out how linear it is with "quests" and the catch em all stuff but its exactly that, just padding, the quest rewards are usually meh and because the routes are so linear and barren doing them is like whatever, overall the quest system makes the game feel like it wishes it was unbound so bad.the dex is fine and some of the changes made to pokemon are neat like adaptability on flareon. overall would never play again.

Since so much of the game is based around catching, I think Noctowl/Hoothoot might be the greatest party member. It has consistent damage that will rarely ever faint the opponent with Night Shade and it has both Hypnosis and the Frosbite move to increase odds. Shadow Tag even prevents things like Teleport. It's not too bad of a pick in battle, with slightly better stats and a much better typing. Plus, it's a handy Fly pokemon.
