Magnetic Storm Edition

>I want to learn the game, where do I begin?
Download PTCGL at https://tcg.pokemon.com/en-us/tcgl
The game has a quick tutorial and a bunch of decent decks to get you started against other beginners or against the AI. Some of those decks are very close to meta too. You can also go to your local game store and see if people are playing Pokémon.

>I know how to play, how do I make my own deck?
You have a decent beginner's guide at https://www.justinbasil.com/guide
There's also the old /tcg/ guide at https://imgur.com/a/W4NkOu6
After that, look up meta decks and try to reverse engineer them to see how things work.

>Where to find meta decks?
For big irl events, go to https://limitlesstcg.com/decks
For online events, go to https://play.limitlesstcg.com/decks?game=PTCG
For japanese events, go to https://pokecabook.com/archives/1417

I was joking I didn't think it would happen.
Honchkrow and dugtrio look pretty terrible tho. At least they're leaving into the porygon archetype, because mewtwo's discard being capped is unredeemable
>>
>>58630233
Porygon will never be good, strictly speaking, but Honchkrow definitely gives it a boost in the early game. It's not difficult to get 5+ supporters in your hand and Proton is pretty much dead wait past the second turn.
This also pushes Secret Box more than Brilliant Blender, as a fun bonus.

years ago i had the idea to revamp pokemon tcg to make it more magic-like so ppl would actually play it and now riftbound has stolen that idea. i could have been a millionaire and they would be richer if the pokemon company would just listen to me.

like i had the same rune deck idea in the form of like pokemon gym badges
and the champion legend and unit was similar where your team was already set
and the combat was more similar and magic like riftbound
and your deck is more like combat and support cards.
like for instance instead of professor oak it would have been like professor oaks intuition, dodge the attack, draw a card or some shit like that
like imagine if your champion legend was like ash's charizard or misty's starmie or something like that and it had affects like boost fire attacks by +2 or something
like imagine ppl actually playing the game instead of scalping it

I made some more changes to the Tinkaton deck after a bit more testing. I'm only a few cards shy of taking it to locals as well. Just need Team Star Grunt

Handheld Fan is huge and has to be one of the more diabolical tools in the format right now. I'm surprised stall/control decks aren't running it, either that or I'm just lucky to not have to play against someone that has it.
Unfortunately Team Star Grunt will rotate, even the ghetto alternative in Giovanni's Charisma is rotating too. Hopefully they'll print something similar for the next rotation.
I'm lukewarm on the stadiums, Neutralization Zone has won me a few games but other times it just gets discarded on the same turn I placed it, Full Metal Lab could probably be replaced with Battle Cage.
Fuck Mega Charizard X
Might have to run an Air Balloon perhaps to help with potential Genesect starts, the one switch may not be enough.
Every deck I ever make will contain a Enhanced Hammer as long as it's in format because I still have PTSD from the DCE days.

Gardy it is then, since that what I'm most comfortable with, I'm just worried about hitting Zoroarks. unless you know there's going to be multiple zoroark players at the cup I wouldn't worry about it. zoroark is basically rogue on top of it being a hard deck to play. it's more likely that someone will play a walls deck than zoroark

Help me understand this MKangaskhan Charizard build.
As I'm getting it, the gameplan consists on poffin->ditto->get it into active either by regular retreat or jet energy->Mkangaskhan then stall the early game while drawing cards setting up your board, right? Now what I don't get is if you are supposed to proc charizard on itself or on kangaskhan, or rather, at which point should you go either way.
Guess if you can't retreat the mkangaskhan right away it is better to attack with it, no? But if he is too hurt then you might prioritize retreating it to bench although sacrificing it would power up your charizard greatly with the disadvantage of not having enough prize space to suicidebomb ghosts comfortably. Guess it also depends greatly on the match and the state of the boars. I could see going stronger with the sacrifice strat and cut ghosts entirely to shove in another kangaskhan for consistency while also opening up the possibility to run battle cage and psyduck without shooting yourself in the foot....
I will have some testing at my locals this weekend.
