Yooooo it's based on the english word "blaze" using latin lettering, which is quite clever actually. It kinda started growing on me once I realized this.

Nobody complained about Victini's V ears. Or Xerneas and Yveltal looking like an X and Y. These are the exact same thing. If instead of "water" we said "O" (not even that far off, could have happened if we adopted the french "eau") we'd have any creature associated with water have O's all over it all the time. You could already see a kid's mascot of a frog with an O on its belly or something, right? Or if instead of iron we just said I (as a baseless example), you'd be seeing mechs or giant metal beasties with a giant "I" shape all over it all the time. This is the exact same thing, it's just easier in languages with syllabaries because their words are often a single symbol instead of only rarely.
