Actual new variants that give you a new way to enjoy a mon or temporary power up you won't see majority of the time so you're just stuck with an old starter

They have some proportional and color tweaks but it’s still the same kind of design people like. Compare them to the PLZA starters. Meganium isn’t particularly popular, Emboar is probably the least popular starter of all time, and Feraligatr’s popularity is debatable. The megas are also all over the place, with Emboar’s still carrying its wonky shapes and not really redeeming the base design in any way and with Meganium’s being pretty bland. And then we have Mega Feraligatr, which is so utterly terrible that it makes you question the point of it in the first place. One set is popular and offers designs that stick close to why those things are popular, and the other isn’t and offers either bland or bafflingly strange form changes.Feraligatr’s mega is just… wow. A shining example of the artists needing harsher oversight, probably.
