I lambasted the License Journey, focusing on the fact that the new unlock system, as implemented, does not respect a player's time (licenses are more expensive and take FAR longer to unlock), and removes player agency (no longer being able to choose which pokemon to unlock next/not being able to unlock their favorite pokemon).
For all the issues Aeos Coins had, at least they respected a player's time investment by progressing towards a new license by just playing the game however you wished, as opposed to the new convoluted method of being forced to play how the battle pass tells you to play, to unlock less than half a license over the course of a month, and then once the pass is done there's no other way to progress to a new license until the next battle pass.
With the coins, I was incentivized to play regularly to get to the 2100/week cap, and could get ~1 new license per month. With this new system making progression to a new license far more convoluted and less rewarding, I have far less incentive to desire to play regularly. I'll probably play until I unlock Vaporeon and mega gyarados, but that's really about it. If the game doesn't respect the time I put into it, I'll find something more worth my while to play. Simple as.

You math is still off by an order of magnitude. A 0.01% drop rate is a 1 in 10,000 chance (0.0001). Your formula should be (1-(0.9999^(4x30))x100 = ~1.2% per month of getting a license from the daily boxes.
In case you're wondering, that calculates to ~13.5% chance per year, IF you get all 120 boxes every month. You'd have to get every daily box, every single day, for damn near 7 years before the probability approaches 99% of getting a license from these boxes.
Just for shits and giggles, the average number of license points per box, given current percentages, is a little over 1 (~1.04). You can expect an average of 4 license points per day from the boxes. Which, btw translates to 40 aeos coins in value for the daily missions, which is a significant decrease from the 100 coins prior to the update.

No you're not. Assuming you have enough active people on your friends list that you get the cap of 5 points per day, combined with the ~4 license points per day on average from the daily missions, that's 9 points/day. If you also follow and max the battle pass, that's 700 points/month as a free player. Keeping the average of 30 days/month, that's an average of ~23 points/day from the battle pass, bringing your average total daily points to a whopping ~32.
If you'd prefer weekly (4 weeks/month) for easier comparisons to aeos coins, that's 174 points/week from the battle pass, and ~63 per week from friends and daily boxes, for a total of 238 points/week, on average. Translate that out to aeos coins that's equivalent to 2380 coins per week.
Now, take into account that you could earn 2100 coins/week just by playing + 140 from fair play points + 300 from Unite Squad + 700 from daily missions + 175 from friends (also assuming the 5 active friends), that's a total of 3415 you could earn weekly in coins, and that doesn't even take into account the weekly login bonus.

That average of 238 license points per week is not going to be consistent (the battle pass gives points in bursts and you're not guaranteed any points at all from the daily boxes), whereas the coins were consistent + guaranteed.
2380 < 3415, so you're getting less equivalent progress towards new licenses per week, AND most licenses were made more expensive, AND you don't even get to choose what you want to grind for, so
this system is objectively worse for the vast majority of players.

If you pay for the battle pass, you get an additional 50 points/day on average (30 day month), or 375/week (4 week month), which brings average total weekly license points to (375 + 174 + 63) = 612 points per week, which is a notable increase in value compared to coins, even at the max tier of weekly login (6120 > 4615, or ~32.6% increase). However, why not just buy the licenses directly if you're already putting money into the game?

I'm too lazy to calculate the total average cost increase of licenses, so I'll stick with the most expensive. They went from, in value of aeos coins, 15000 to 19600, or ~30.7% increase. So, if you were a free player who now buys the battle pass, you're only really getting ~2% more value, in terms of progress to a new license, than were were getting for free with coins. If you stay free, that's a damn near 50% DECREASE in equivalent value. For the free players (the majority of the playerbase), the new system sucks donkey dick no matter how you slice it, and even if you pay you're only BARELY getting enough added value to outpace the inflated license costs.

Is anyone actually looking forward to the EXP changes? I think it'll actually make the game worse.

Outside of the disconnecting, the quality of matches has been mostly better for me. I don’t know if shitty 49% wr players have finally been bullied off or lost interest in losing more than every other game but I’ve noticed less of them in my games. Vaporeon Glaceon and megas are still cancer but you can ban them out for the most part and get a somewhat balanced match too
