What are your thoughts on Pokemon Diamond/Pearl?
palkia looks like a colossal faggot but i had to go with pearl for glameow and purugly
>>58713113I like them. Platinum is obviously better but base game isn’t that bad. I did most of the content during Covid and had a good time. For better (and worse) the game’s most interesting aspect is how you obtain and interact with your Pokèmon.
>>58713113Overhated, made me realize more restricted dexes can be a good experience as opposed to automatically being worse than larger dexes.
They’re top-tier because they’re only two of seven games that feature best girl (8 if you count gachashit)
>>58713113I love them. They were my first real Pokemon games.
>>58713113Underhated. Painfully slow and the peak of HM hell. Hard carried by the great music. If it didn't run like shit it might be enjoyable.
>>58713113The maps have excellent background music, and are some of the most comprehensive in the series, and feature many detours. There are also maps exclusive to the post-game and legendaries Pokemon, and many interesting elements like meaningful horror and urban legend maps. Furthermore, there are also detour elements other than the main story, such as the underground, contests, slots, and the safari zone making this a completely new game and the best ever.Pokémon appearance methods are not just randomly dumped into the grass, but are based on the day of the week, time of appearance, sweet-scented trees, Marsh, Feebas, Spiritomb, dual slot, Pokeradar, online evolution and distribution, and even glitch/based acquisitions, making it a diverse and not monotonous game, with popular Pokémon like Piplup, Lucario, and Garchomp. Not only did it produce many Pokemon that represent Pokemon content, but the story was well-developed and utilized, and the most important final boss, Cynthia, was a huge success, with the most popular BGM of all time and a divine hand, making it a huge hit.The setting was also fascinating, with mythology and Canalave’s Library-related elements, and the somewhat mysterious horror maps scattered throughout the game, as well as the writing and music. The Mystery Zone bugs were also the second most exciting bug techniques of all time, and the then-unreleased, one of the most divinely designed Pokemon of all time, Darkrai, and Shaymin, was actually present in the mysterious map beyond the dark world.Even the bugs worked to its advantage, making it a miraculous work of high quality in every respect
>>58713113Better when it released. Nowadays it feels awful to play. It’s insane how much flack you see Hoenn get for HMs when Sinnoh is worse in every fucking aspect in that regard. And it doesn’t even have the decency to play well, it just feels like a slog. But hey, at least it gave us Torterra, the pinnacle of pokemon design.
>>58713113quite possibly the worst mainline games in the series. I never played USUM/LGPE/BDSP/Swishy swoosh/SV though, so keep that in mind.
>>58713113Platinum is so much better
They introduced me to the series, and I still think Palkia makes most sense for the storyBut never has a original release been more redundant than these two>>58713297i would still put these over swoosh, jank and all
>>58713244What? It's Sinnoh that gets shat on for It's HM usage, not Hoenn
they aight i can never really bring myself to play them over platinum though
>>58713113Great music, overall good battle gameplay changes but the graphics jump from Gen 3 was very small specially when comparing overworlds, it used bigger sprites to do more of the same which isn't really an improvement or downgrade. Not enough changes for the overworld gameplay and a few elements like cutting tall grass are gone because the new engine. The loading times are much longer and the game runs much worse than the previous games so it's a bit of a technical disaster in that regard. I wish there was a bigger graphical jump between Gen 3 and Gen 4, I think DP could be easily a GBA game if you just used smaller sprites and it wouldn't look much different because the gameplay alterations are not that plentiful (not that they need to be).
>>58713555I almost forgot, the biggest thing against playing DP in the DS is that it doesn't use the double screen feature effectively. Valid for Platinum as well. This adds more to "it could be a GBA game" factor, you have very limited touchscreen usage and the biggest thing they did was Pokétch which is very vanity, you don't seriously need another screen to keep track of a counter or use a calculator.
>>58713113some of my least favourites, mostly because I dont like a lot of the pokedex
>>58713113The worst Pokémon game ever made by far, even worse than Swooshit.
>>58713636>Swooshit
i don't like the encounter tables feeling really samey between routes
The music is so good.
>>58714555Best OST to this day
>>58713113Platinum didn't "fix" Diamond and Pearl, it improved them. They were already good.
>>58714822>Platinum didn't "fix" Diamond and PearlThis. All three are bad games.
>>58714835Dilate
>>58713113A direct downgrade from gen 3 in every way except for the attack split. Unplayable compared to Platinum which only just got away with being bad because of the Dex expansion.
>>58714555>>58714566never understood this take. Its music always sounded like "my first MIDI music project" to me.
>>58713113I’m genuinely a fan of them. For starters, I think the map design peaked in Sinnoh. The individual routes are fairly intricate, with alternate paths and off-shoots that warrant multiple visits or otherwise thorough exploration. The region layout is especially phenomenal. The biomes are well distributed, with valleys, meadows and forests in the west, marshes and beaches in the south, snowy tundras in the north and misty mountains at the heart. You explore most of the west for the first 2 badges, then the east for 3 and 4, with the latter game seeing you explore the far reaching corners of the map. This is an highly organic progression path in my opinion. The openness during the second quarter allows you to explore most of the map early on, helping the heart of the region feel more like a hub from which you progessively venture outward as you complete the game. Lopsided though it may be, this suits the comfy slow-burn playstyle that DP are obviously geared towards. Another strong point is the atmosphere. No other Pokémon game really captures the same feel as places like Eterna Forest, Canalave City, Mt Coronet’s peak and the Pokémon league. The whole region has this ancient and mysterious vibe that sets it apart for the better. Only complaint in this regard is that the weaker graphics leave the music to hard-carry this aesthetic, though I think it ultimately works out. Final things worth noting is that these games combine elements from the first 3 generations in a way that makes them feel really fully featured. People complain about the samey encounter tables but I actually like how you have to go out of your way to find the most interesting Pokémon. Makes dex completion feel like a well-earned but easy to keep up with goal to chip away at as you play. Oh yea, and the difficulty of these games hits a sweet spot in my opinion, with a fairly lenient curve that has a few level spikes thrown in to keep you on your toes when it wants.
>>58714566>>58714555this
Platinum saved Sinnoh.
>>58715818It’s ok some people aren’t blessed with good taste like me
