Thread question: are there any Pokémon related holiday traditions that you do for Christmas?
>>58721952I have been playing Heart and Soul I saw from a romhack thread here a couple weeks ago, was originally going to nuzlocke but with early houndour and larvitar I decided to do monodark, restrictions on found items only and level cap. Just cleared the radio tower and finally got Sneasel for my 5th teammate. Does anyone know if it's possible to get Carvanha or Seedot anywhere else before Kanto in this hack? I found a website that lists encounters but it is inaccurate.Running Houndoom, Pupitar, Umbreon, Honchkrow and soon Weavile before taking on gym 8.
>>58713879Tried using Alolan Dugtrio, and it died to a Muk's Fire Punch I wasn't expecting it to have.So much for that.
It's gonna be difficult to keep a thread up in the wake of the DLC release.
>>58723034It doesn't feel quite as bad as new releases usually are. Usually it's straight to page 9 in an hour or so, but maybe the hype has worn off quicker than usual.
>>58722270That depends on what the hack is. What's the name of it, or is it actually called Heart and Soul?
>>58724356It's called Heart and Soul. It's HGSS in emerald with some gen IV shit and QoL.I wanted a 6th team member before heading into the E4 but I doubt it will happen. At least I will get my ttar soon.
>>58723659True, it sounds like there isn't actually much to it. In any case, I'm gonna grind for BP before tackling Olivia.
Wattson down because Marshtomp obviously clears himWhich is good because my only other team member worth noting right now would have got rocked
Had an urge to play BD for some reason but I know doing a nuzlocke's just going to end up being the same starly/shinx etc for the first half of the game so I've decided (since I picked chimchar) to only use mons who can learn flamethrower
>>58724377Would it be the following?https://pokemonheartsoul.com/pokemon-locations-wild-encounters/Because I feel like it was too easy for you to not have found. I did find a link to a Google doc, but I think it's the same data that's on this website.>>58725116Cool, a Chimchar solo run!
>>58725428>Cool, a Chimchar solo runAre you forgetting Kanto mon movepools? I've already got a machop & geodude (didn't catch because fuck geodude) who can learn it+ there's plenty of other cunts like skuntank etc
Flannery killed my Solrock which I'm pissed about, I was looking forward to using him
>>58725509Nah, i'm snarking about Sinnoh's lack of Fire types.
>>58726075She's a difficult foght even with Marshtomp, only losing one mon is a good run.
>>58724635How different does Mantine Surf make the Alola early game?
>>58728408The best move tutors are in the postgame (naturally), but it does give you some extra options to work with. BP can also be used for prizes at the Battle Royal Dome, if you're allowing yourself to use them.
>>58726075You just gave me a great idea for a team that I think would work well in a gen 6 romhack. The only question is whether I want to play XY or ORAS......maybe XY because of Z-A
After accidentally levelling Eevee too high and losing out on his first stab move on evolution I decided to box him for now. My only legal encounter on route 4 was Trubbish, and since I ended up catching one outside Nimbasa I caught the Mandibuzz instead. Giving the player a Mandibuzz/Braviary to use before the endgame is one of the most overlooked neat little things in BW2. Those 2 are way too mediocre to evolve at level 54, no idea what they were thinking.I also got one of my favourite pokemon of Gen 5 in the desert resort, which I then promptly wasted in a double battle against two Scrafty. I genuinely expected it to just oneshot both with an Air Cutter, instead I got a Revenge to the face. Lost my motivation to play for a few days from that but it is what it is. Not sure if Trubbish is gonna be a placeholder or an actual teammember yet.Oh yeah and Heavy swept the gym after one Hone Claws, then evolved from all the XP. Team's full of heavy hitters now.>>58726075Emerald Flannery is one of the toughest gym fights in the franchise imo. Overheat in the sun will just melt even the tankiest stuff at that point in the game. Don't think I've ever cleared it without a loss.>>58725116Sounds like a fun run. Flamethrower is one of those moves that is learnt by some absolutely insane things. I remember fucking Geodude and Machop get it. Gen 1 was wild.>>58722152Not anymore but I remember we always used to play pokemon coloseum on our cousin's N64 when we went to their place for christmas growing up. I remember how mindblowing seeing pokemon in 3d games was, good times.
>>58729081Ouch. Sigilyph is a rough loss, especially with BW2's TM selection. I believe moves that hit more than one target in double battles have their damage adjusted to compensate, kinda shocked that it fell to a Revenge with its double resistance.
>>58725428>Would it be the following?Yeah it was that website I found, I already ended up beating the E4 and got my Sharpedo and Shiftry but the site is not entirely accurate as I have found fossil mons as wild encounters so unsure what else was possible to find preE4. I do wonder if some pokemon are available that aren't listed either but I haven't found any yet. I definitely would have failed a nuzlocke of this hack though, especially if I totally limited items like I usually do.
>>58729885>moves that hit more than one target in double battles have their damage adjusted to compensate, True, but it's a drop of 25% so I still expected it to kill. I think I just underestimated how bulky Scraggy is.>kinda shocked that it fell to a Revenge with its double resistance. That's because I confused Payback with Revenge, whoops.
page 9 bump!
p-page 9 bump...?!
>>58730197Figured it would be, but I still wanted to be sure.>>58730308Ah. Yeah Payback would do get the kill. Scraggy does have good bulk for a base stage too.
>>58728446I figured the best stuff wouldn't be avaliable so early, but nice to know there's some decent stuff to get so early.
>>58728721Did you ever end up deciding what hack to play?
>>58733137Eternal X.Caught and EV trained the rocks before bed last night (they both had +10 to their respective attack stats and +15 to respective defences and their gen 7 HP buffs. They're still not great, but yeah.)I'm doing an Apollo/Artemis team. Sudowoodo is a temporary early game member (fun fact: Daphne, one of the many rape victims in the Metamorphoses, pursued by Apollo, turned into a laurel tree). The others I have planned are >Meloetta (music)>Diancie (sounds like Diana and looks like a pure virgin)(both are 1% encounters in mirror cave so lol. Figured romhacks are the only real chance to use legendaries without feeling like ur cheating)>probably Sawsbuck (male, to balance out Meloetta being a feminine representative for Apollo)Milotic is there because of a silly pun on "feebas" sounding like "Phoebus", nothing more. There's also other mons like Volcarona/Cresselia that could represent the Sun/Moon aspects, but I think the rocks are cooler for a team like this. There's just a little bit of type overlap, but that's part of the fun (Milotic is fairy type in this hack so not even he's a unique type)...Sorry for the autism.
>>58733620Took me over an hour but I finally found her. Must be coded to have near perfect IVs too because they're really good. Never used this pokemon before, am I supposed to train it special or physical? Mixed? Her base form has the waifu stat spread
>>58734522Diancie was a bit quicker but has some more unfortunate IV in attack and bad nature for special attack, as such I went for max HP, mixed offence EVs (I always forget her signature move is just stone edge but good).Ideally I won't need to resort to toxic stalling or anything like that
>>58734769Also the Shalour City music sounds incredible at 250% speed
Dammit, Clay got me again. His Excadrill managed to get a metal claw boost when I switched into my own. Not sure why I thought mine would be faster than his, but I was sorely mistaken and we got oneshot by a boosted Bulldoze. Thankfully leech seed damage left it weak enough we could finish it with Scabs before it could cause more trouble, but that's a second great mon I just wasted.Got a Baltoy from the Relic Castle to take his place, and it already came in clutch during the PWT. Pretty excited to see how it'll perform in this game.>>58731880>>58734171Someone should stop this menace.>>58733620Interesting challenge. I've always found it unfortunate how little opportunity we get to use stuff like mythical pokemon in gameplay.
>>58734522Depends on which form you're using, or if you can even get Pirouette form. Aria form, as in her base, is a special attacker, while Pirouette form is a physical attacker with more speed.
>>58722152I used to breed starters and other rare Pokemon to Wonder Trade for the people who were likely getting the games on Christmas.
>>58725116Did a BD Wonderlocke while waiting for ZA. Highly recommend. Only thing is it might take you a bit to find a new encounter but trading also gets you Rare Candies
>>58734954Kinda seeming to me that this run will mostly be the lesser used mons instead if the goats. Guard Magneton carefully.
>>58734954>Interesting challengeChallenge indeed. I'm about to fight the grass gym leader with picrel. might take a few tries. Also what >>58736491 said -- eviolite magneton is a house.>>58735720I went for max speed, ~200ish SpAtk and the rest in atkA vibes-based EV spread>>58735733I stopped playing after the game crashed twice in a row. It was right after a save, but I just know it was going to happen again so I saved myself the anguish of wondering when. Shame because I was keen to use Sappho the female lickilicky
>>58736980Eternal X is fun for most part. Rotation and Triple battles are exception. Tried to nuzlocke it and personal best is Team Flare fight in Pokeball Factory. In most runs, I generally start to bleed Pokemon around Shalour City.Keep us posted and good luck.
>>58715241I have to admit, that was disappointingly easy. Turns out I didn't really need to bother using a Z-Move and Olivia thought the same, instead having her Lycanroc attempt to stunlock Mintaka with bites until he could put the dog down. I'd better not get overconfident though, as tougher battles are yet to come!
Littlemon team #39 to see which 1st stage Pokemon can beat Alpha Sapphire's E4 + Champ. Level cap, no bag items, usual restrictions. Deathless & reliable strat. This was kinda simple and easy. The strategy is debuff-setup-sweep (the strat usually is just that). Igglybuff has Charm, Wish, Flash, Confide etc. and great HP. Chingling has a similar moveset plus Recover. It has good Special Attack but it didn't come to play, except on test runs when it can do serious damage to Sidney's team with Dazzling Gleam. I also bred Igglypuff with Perish Song but never got to use it. Totodile has an amazing movepool supported by Dragon Dance. All fights are:>debuff their lead and totodile sets up and sweeps>totodile kills sidney's team with brick break>phoebe's team with crunch & rock tomb>glacia with brick break & crunch>drake with dragon claw>steven with waterfall & crunchAll time KO top list:30 / 30: Tentacool, Hippopotas, Rufflet, Goomy, Minccino, Totodile29: Teddiursa, Rhyhorn23 - 28: Tyrunt, Skorupi, Pawniard, Stunky, Gligar, Shellder, Bronzor 18 - 20: Mienfoo, Anorith11 - 17: Gastly, Munchlax, Cranidos, Sneasel, Scyther, Diglett, Ferroseed, Machop, Amaura, Pancham, Shellos, Doduo, Staryu, Wailmer, Torchic, Slugma, Riolu, Squirtle, Binacle, Croagunk, Flabébé, PiplupI took a little break from this challenge because it got frustrating when I was trying a whole another team and it didn't work out. A team with no buffing or debuffing seems too hard with the Pokemon I have left. I could beat Sidney with Shieldon & friends but then there's four more teams to beat. I'm gonna try it later again with an all-star team or something.
I'm back after a while of not doing nuzlockes, I don't know when i last finished Ultra Sun but it's been a while because I was playing other games and I'm not a big fan of gen 8 and I didn't feel like playing it but I have finally begun it.My starter is a Scorbunny which I've never used before and I don't really like Cinderace to much and I also caught a Chewtle and Scorbunny evolved into Raboot.Any advice is happily accepted. Also those anyone know when I last finished Ultra Sun nuzlocke? And Merry Christmas by the way, I don't have a family but I hope you are all enjoying Christmas.
>>58738462Forget to post this image.Sorry.
>>58738462>which I've never used before and I don't really like Cinderace to muchMe neither, but is it like a new Blaziken? No idea, but looks like it. Might be cool
>>58738480I don't know, I'm about to find out. It's probably good stat wise but I dislike it's design, I don't like the football aesthetic that gen 8 has.
>>58738251Welcome back! Totodile is proving itself one of the goats with that performance for sure. Plans for run number 40?
>>58739404Thanks! I'm lurking in these threads anyway even when I'm not playing. >Plans? This Vanillite seems pretty good.
I caught a Galarian Zigzagoon, a Carkol and even a Milcery all before the first gym battle with Milo which was super easy. Carol took out Gossifleur with Flame Charge while Raboot dynamaxed and took out a dynamaxed Eldegoss with Max Flare. After the gym battle, Zigzagoon evolved into Linoone, I did lose Milcery to a Breeders Stuffel using a surprise Brutal Swing but Chewtle did evolve into Drednaw. Finally i failed to catch a Eldegoss on the bridge on route 5, the game should have told me that it's only a one chance to catch it so I could have been more careful but unfortunately it's dead.Because I have no counter to grass types, what should I use against Nessa?
(Really, out of all the great TGC art for Claydol this is the one they went with?)Magneton once again makes a gym battle look like a joke but boy the way there did not treat me well. Triple battles are always a bitch and swapping into all three uncoming attacks doesn't help. Sad to see Scabs go, was hoping to take her all the way. Then Mandibuzz fell while trying protect the Cubchoo I was training. Turns out weak armor doesn't go well against multihit moves, seeing her defense drop every hit was rough. Cubchoo didn't last much longer anyway so what was even the point.Honestly the route 4 Mandibuzz was a bit of a weird one. It's decently quick (at least at this point in the game) so the speed boost is nearly pointless while it's weak attack stats means even with nasty plot it's not really gonna be a good sweeper anyway so you're kinda just left with a tank that gets worse each time it's hit. Doesn't feel too great for a nuzlocke. But now we're going into my favourite part of the game, and depending on my encounters the team might look entirely different by the time we get to the next gym. See you then.>>58736491>>58736980Magneton is definitely the linchpin of the team, it's fantastic. Don't intend to let it take any risk. Kinda glad eviolite Magneton is straight up better than Magnezone since I like the design way more.>>58737871Man I'm always so impressed to see people beating totem mons without casualties, great job.>>58738251Guess gamefreak is right, Totodile really is better than Feraligatr.>>58738462>Any advice is happily acceptedGen 8 is so much easier than USUM that I find playing without using Dynamax yourself makes it a lot more fun imo.
>>58739784It's gonna be rough with two Fire types. Drednaw and Zigzagoon are gonna have to do most of the work here unless you have another encounter to work with.
>>58721952ZA just didn't do it for me and the last few gens haven't either. I wanted to nuzlocke Alpha Sapphire but Poke Bank isn't downloadable anymore and I'd like to transfer my survivors. Is Brilliant Diamond ok to nuzlocke? I just can't stand the friendship system + exp share always on. Is it manageable?
How do you nuzlocke ZA when it's just one city?
>>58741247If this is in reference to my post >>58741238 I just meant the game in general. I haven't tried nuzlocking it or any game since Ultra Moon
>>58741263Not really a reference to your post but in general. The whole place is just one big map and idk how I'm going to set the rules without it sounding like a cop out and that's not even counting the DLC
>>58741238BDSP was not redesigned with the EXP Share + friendship in mind, so you're gonna sweep through the game until you get to the Elite 4, which was actually changed to accommodate the new systems. There's always bitter herbs, but that's a band-aid solution and goes against the theme of a Nuzlocke, specifically intentionally lowering your mon's happiness, imo
I just lost my nuzlocke to Nessa.First Zigzagoon was able to take out Goldeen and Arrokuda with Night Slash but I was a bit worried about her Drednaw, the plan was to sacrifice my Drednaw that could take multiple hits while I waited for dynamax to end, her dynamaxed Drednaw eventually took out mine with three Max Geysers before the dynamax ran out, then I would send out Raboot, dynamax it and use Max Knuckle but despite being dynamaxed, Drednaw took out out Raboot with one Razor Shell. After that I knew it was over, Zigzagoon and Carkol where later taken out with Razor Shell. My nuzlocke ended.I honestly tried to win with the best with what I had, if I hadn't of fucked up trying to catch Eldegoss, I could have won, that's the games fault for not giving me another Eldegoss on the bridge but then you can just blame me for not catching it the first time and causing it to faint.By far one of my worst runs ever, go ahead and mock me and ridicule me if you feel the need to do so, I can take it.I'm doing Scarlet next.
>>58742261f
Just began my pokemon Scarlet nuzlocke. My starter is Quaxly and I also caught a Paldean Wooper.Wish me the best of luck.
Took a break after some confuse ray induced trauma at the power plant. Solrock is finally pulling his weight -- by which I mean he solo'd all the electric gym trainers with bulldoze (apart from a single luxray).Should be, uhh... just a little bit easier than the grass gym...I hope
>>58742579Not a bad fight. Had a few false starts working out how to deal with his lead rotom wash but I managed to dance around its hydro pumps and won my first attempt after that. The air balloon magnezone was a little scary since the only non-resisted attack I had for it was Apollo's surf after I failed a gamble on a rock slide flinch with Phoebus to pop it/break its presumed sturdy (don't get too confused) and got heemed by flash cannon.Artemis solo'd his mega Ampharos with leftovers protect & power gem aka the honest man's toxic stall
>>58742565Mad cringe starter pick
>>58742639Yeah I know and I agree. It's just I've never used the Duck before so that's why I picked it.
>>58741247Mechanically every wild area and a whole bunch of streets all have their own met locations, you could easily use those to decide where you count your encounters.
>>58742565Unfortunate that you lost Galar like that, but it happens sometimes. Good luck in Paldea.
Huh. Hau doesn't immediately jump you for a battle once you arrive in Malie City like he does in Sun/Moon. Thank goodness for that.
I caught a Starly that later evolved into Staravia while Quaxly evolved into Quaxwell. Then I took on the first gym leader Katy who was incredibly easy. Quaxwell took out her Nymble and Tarountula with Wing Attack and Staravia terrestrialised and took out her terrestrialised Teddiursa with Wing Attack. Now that's done, time to move on.
>>58744221Does the game still smack you with two back to back cutscenes like in Sun/Moon?
>>58744384Goooo BirdBrain!
This morning I caught a Tinkatink and I beat the Titan Klawf by having Quaxwell terrestrialised and taking out Klawf with Water Pulse and Aqua Jet which was easy. The battle with the second gym leader Brassius was more harder than expected but still easy. First I had Wooper terrestrialised and then set up Toxic Spikes so all aside from Petili would be poisoned and then Wooper took out Petili with Poison Tail, Staravia took out a poisoned Smoliv with Wing Attack and while terrestrialised Sudowoodo was poisoned, it's Rock Throw dealt enough damage that Wooper couldn't just keep using Poison Tail and not heal so I kept healing Wooper while the poison slowly wares Sudowoodo out and when a Rock Throw misses, Wooper kills Sudowoodo with Poison Tail. The battle is over.
I caught a Mankey and Wooper evolved into Clodsire. I managed to beat the Titan Bombirdier but it was tough. Tinkatink was able to beat Bombirdier by terrestrialising and using Draining Kiss to heal itself and attack as Bombirdiers Plucks do alot of damage but soon the giant bird is dead. With that battle over, I have no casualties and I already know who I'm sending out to take on Giacomo.
I was able to beat the Team Star member Giacomo. First Mankey terrestrialised before one shotting a Pawniard with one Low Kick, then Mankey had to deal with the Segin Starmobile and it's Wicked Torque which was powerful after enough Low Kicks, Cross Chops and Seismic Tosses from Mankey, the vehicle was destroyed and I prevailed. Afterwards I caught a Toxel, Tinkatink evolved into Tinkatuff and I even caught a Crabrawler.
Hooray, I have won an authentic Kantonian-style Badge from an authentic Kantonian-style Gym Leader!
How fucked am I for Whitney?
I caught a Teddiursa and both Mankey and Toxel evolved into Toxtricity and Primeape and then I took on the third gym leader Iono where the game began to bug out and become incredibly laggy. First I had Clodsire set up Toxic Spikes to poison all but her flying Wattrel and levitating Mismagius, then Clodsire took out Wattrel with Sludge Wave, now because Iono's Bellibolt only knows one water attack and one electric attack, it can't harm my Clodsire or do anything to it so Clodsire soon took out Bellibolt with Mud Shot along with taking out Luxio with a Mud hot. Finally Tinkatuff terrestrialised and took out a terrestrialised Mismagius with Draining Kiss and soon the battle was over. The battle was on live and one of her fans donated money for feet pics so hopefully Iono can use that money to fix the lag in this game.
>>58748883Can't you just teach one of your pokemon Rock Smash or something?
I beat the Team Star Member Mela. First Quaxwell terrestrialised and took out Torkoal with Aqua Cutter and then took out the Schedar Starmobile with Aqua Cutter and Aqua Jet. Afterwards I caught a Varoom while in the mines and Staravia evolved onto Staraptor before I took on the Titan Orthworm. Pimeape terrestrialised and took down Orthworm with one Low Kick. Orthworm is incredibly heavy so no surprise.
I caught a Maschiff and Quaxwell finally evolved into Quaquaval. Then I beat the fourth gym leader Kofu and it was easy. First Primeape used two Rage Fists to take out Veluza, then Staraptor took out Wugtrio with one Close Combat and finally a terrestrialised Toxtricity one shotted his terrestrialised Crabominable with one Discharge.
>>58748883You have evasion strats to use and set up before Miltank actually appears.>All those deathsWhat the fuck happened?
actually have time to work on the nuzlocke-generator. Feel free to suggest feature ideas or yell at me about bugsRecent updates>Gen 3 Save file support>Actually fucking functional undo/redo>Team Type Matchups with matchup testing>Better hotkeys support>Support for predefined Rulesets>Ability to export data as a CSV>Legends Z-A support
>>58751397Don’t really have anything to suggest or criticize. Just want to say thank you for making this tool to begin with
Any recommendations for ROM Hacks to Nuzlocke? I don’t mind some difficulty as long as it’s in reason. Pokèmon changes and new areas/regions are a plus
>Take almost a year long break from my marathonlocke>Got free time so decide to continue during the christmas holidays>Immediately lose my starter and my adamant natured thick fat hariyama to wattsonPain.
I caught a Pawniard at Tagtree Thicket and after using Rage Fist 20 times, Prineape finally evolved into Annihilape. Then I took on the Team Star member Atticus and it was difficult. First Clodsire took out Skuntank with Mud Shot and then Annihilape terrestrialised and took out his Revavroom with Low Kick. Out came Muk who kept using Mud Slap on Clodsire which lowered Clodsires accuracy and causing it to miss alot, by the time Clodsire managed to take out Muk with Mud Shot, it ran out of ground type moves and so Annihilape had to take on the Navi Starmobile instead. Annihilape used Low Kick, Cross Chop and Shadow Punch but after taking loads of hits, Rage Fist got more powerful and it was one Rage Fist that did the vehicle in and Atticus was defeated. After that I caught a Sudowoodo and Tinkatuff finally evolved into Tinkaton. I haven't lost a pokemon and all my six main team members have reached there final stages.
Last run ended with a disaster, with my team devastated by Miltank which, despite a -2 accuracy, landed all the Rollouts she could.Started a new run and I'm currently training for the rematch angainst Whitney, but this time the team is definitely more solid. Homer's lorerule states that he must be on the team until he battles a randomized gym leader/legendary for at least 3 turns, and wouldn't you know it, the randomizer chose Whitney! I have just the strategy to solo her with my blue beetle, but I'm also looking forward to Morty, with potentially three Bite users that could help immensely.
I beat the fifth gum leader Larry. Annihilape terrestrialised and took out Komala with Close Combat, Quaquaval used Low Sweep to defeat Dudunsparce and my own Staraptor took out his terrestrialised Staraptor with two Close Combats. Afterwards I caught a Frigibax in Dalizapa Passage and a Swablu in Glaseado Mountain. Now what?
>>58751446Polished Crystal or Emerald++?>>58752151And you still have Flannery coming up. Emerald is one of the harder games to Nuzlocke for a reason.
I beat the sixth gym leader Rymes and I planned around it. First I terrestrialised Anger to get rid of his weakness to ghost turning him into a pure fighting type and then he used Shadow Punch to take out Banette while his ally Amy used Brutal Swing to get rid of Mimikyus disguise while also dealing a little bit of damage to Anger so his Rage Fist can get powered up. Then Anger unleashes a Rage Fist on Houndstone taking it out easily while Amy takes out Mimikyu with Megaton Hammer and finally Rymes terrestrialised Toxtricity was no match for one Rage Fist from Rymes and when you take into consideration my two pokemons stats being risen by the crowd cheering, a hard fight became easy. Then I beat the Titan Great Tusk with Zesty who terrestrialised and used Aqua Step, Air Slash and liquidation and I also caught a Fidough.
>>58737871Just like in the Moon universe, Asellus soloed this trial. After popping an X Attack, High Horsepower ripped through Totem Togedemaru's HP while the Skarmory he summoned took more effort since I lacked Fire and Electric coverage.
>>58754628I mean i have tentacool with bubblebeam for flannery, toxic stall dustox for norman's slaking, and gyarados that can learn ice beam for winona's altaria so i should at least make it to the league as long as i don't lose those mons beforehand to unlucky crits
Do you guys use set or shift for your runs?
>>58756930I personally go with shift, I'm not hardcore enough.
>>58753467That's the problem with evasion strats. They don't work for you even at +6, but the AI becomes untouchable at +2. At leadt this run is looking much better.
>>58753467Whitney was a complete success, with Homer spamming Fury Cutter and finishing the fight in just a few turns. Got to Ecruteak and caught a bunch of mons, but also missed on a pontentially massive Miltank because she broke every ball I got. Got a good team to face Morty anyway, now onto grinding!P.S. I lost Magikarp like a dumbass while switch training against a trainer in Morty's gym (he used Mean Look and trapped me). Not my proudest moment.
>>58758408Granbull with a sleep curing item might be able to solo Morty's team, thry can't really damage Normal types besides Curse and Dream Eater.
>>58756930I use set, even in my regular runs now. It adds that extra bit of challenge to battles for me.
I beat the two final gym leaders of Paldea this morning, Tulip and Grusha.First Tulip in which I didn't terrestrialised. First Amy took out her Farigiraf with Knock Out, then Anger took out Espathra with Shadow Punch, then Amy took out Gardevoir with Gigaton Hammer and Anger used Shadow Punch on her terrestrialised Florges who countered with Moonblast dealing alot of damage to Anger, bad choice for Tulip, Angers Rage Fist powers up and obliterates Florges ending the fight. Then Grusha which I didn't once take damage. BirdBrain one shotted Frossmoth with Aerial Ace, Zesty one shotted Beartic with Low Sweep, Amy one shotted Cetitan with Gigaton Hammer and Anger terrestrialised and one shotted a terrestrialised Altaria with Close Combat. Too easy. I also caught a Floette which I won't use. I'm pretty much in the late game now.
I caught a Sylveon and I beat the Team Star member Ortega. First Punk took out Azumarill with one Overdrive, then Amy smashed his Wigglytuff with one Gigaton Hammer, then Toxic terrestrialised and took out his Dachsbun with Sludge Wave as well as taking out the Ruchbah Starmobile with Sludge Wave even though it kept using Confuse Ray. That's it for now.Any advice for Eri? She's the hardest battle in the game probably and everytime I've lost a pokemon to her.
>>58723659>>58723034Given how many coomer threads are on the catalogue, it's pretty safe to say ZA is a flop. Usually we have a few more months before that happens
I decided to start a journey through all four main remakes. I just beat Misty and I'm doing... fine.Due to rules my team is kind of unimpressive but we are reaching the point where we should be able to grab few more interesting Pokemon. Primo was obviously MVP against both Brock and Misty. I can't keep Ratattas alive.
I beat the final Titan Tatsugiri. In the fight against Dodonzo, Punk terrestrialised and took it out with Overdrive and when it came to face Tatsugiri itself, Amy terrestrialised and took it out with Play Rough.Afterwards I beat the Team Star member Eri. First BirdBrain terrestrialised and took out Toxicroak with Aerial Ace, then Amy tagged in for a bit to take out Annihilape and Passimian with Play Rough before BirdBrain came back out to take out Lucario with Aerial Ace. As for the battle against the Caph Starmobile, BirdBrain risked it and used a powerful but risky Brave Bird which defeated the Caph Starmobile and I didn't lose a single pokemon.
>>58761386Early Kanto is a bit boring with encounters since we've seen them all so often. At least you should have a smooth time with Surge and Erika.>>58762006Nice work! You're having a smooth run of things, let's hope it keeps up!
>>58760971I don't think it helps that the DLC wasn't nearly as substantial as the last two games. Different beast from the main games granted, but the point still stands.
I've been Director Clavell and now I'm gonna take on the elite four and then the Champion.Any advice for the elite four and the champion? Also another question, how come this has been like the only nuzlocke where I haven't lost a pokemon, atleast yet?
>>58763100It's so weird, I'm used to losing atleast around 3 to 6 pokemon even when I succeed but here I've lost none. I did nearly lose Staraptor though in the battle with Director Clavell.
>>58764286>how come this has been like the only nuzlocke where I haven't lost a pokemon, atleast yet?I imagine the answer is the enemy trainers are generally pretty easy and its hard to not overlevelhaven't played the DLCs though, not sure if they ramp the difficulty
>>58721952When did Nuzlockes become about the difficulty and winning? When they started it was all about experiencing pokemon you don't often use, or have overlooked in the past for being weak. Now people ignore captures they don't often use, or overlook those that are weak. It's like we've lost sight of the original goal here.

>>58764421>>58764428azumarill dead by zangoose, jesus christ
>>58764421Those Pelipper have Protect? If so use it against Slaking.
I've just beaten the elite four consisting of Rika, Poppy, Larry and hassel, the top champion Geeta who was piss easy as usual, Penny, Arven and Nemona and now all that's left us Area Zero.Because I did so many battles at once, I don't really feel like typing out how each battle went but I didn't lose a pokemon and this is my team.
So that's 6 deaths now in the span of two gym fights, fucking hell. Some lapses in judgement between Lentimas and Opulucid turned out costly. Especially upset about losing Garbodor, I was really growing to like it.The gym fight went pretty damn bad too. Went to the trouble of putting Druddigon to sleep so it couldn't Revenge Walrein, only for it to wake up turn 1 anyway (luckily it went for Slash), then Walrein flinched on the rock slide against Flygon so it took way more effort than necessary to get that down, which then put me in a situation where I had to let Haxorus set up. Luckily Terabyte and Prouder saved us from getting wiped with Leech Seed and Thunder Wave, but we still had to sacrifice Nimbus so Accelgor could come in and finally take it down. I'm mostly underwhelmbed by how Walrein performed, I was hoping he'd be my main counter against Iris but now I'm not sure they're up to it..I'm also not sure who to actually use for the final slot, was thinking about Drifblim but then I realised there's a lot of dark and ice stuff coming up with Team Plasma. Or maybe I should replace Accelgor with Heracross but I never feel good about replacing someone who just saved the run. Any suggestions?>>58764935Congrats! Good luck in Area Zero, really cool team!>>58764451Was it that one Zangoose that's built to crit? That one's an underestimated threat.>>58764311When numbers autists began outperforming story autists, shortly after the main medium for nuzlocke storytelling went from webcomics to youtube videos.>>58761386Early gens have a lot of repetetive encounter tables so that's probably not the last rattata you're catching lol>>58758408Geodude/Graveller will probably solo too since there's no abilities in GSC and ghost is a physical type. That team is practically built to wreck Morty.
>>58764554Yeah, but my Pelipper also does no damage so I'm not convinced it can wear down slaking in ten turns considering a sitrus berry/potions if norman has themI'll need to grind up I think
I wanted to return to nuzlocking after a short break, but I've hit a roadblock in the game I wanted to finish first. I'm honestly considering giving up because it's becoming an annoying hassle at this point. I hope everyone's runs are going well.
I caught a Clamperl on Route 15, and mugging wild Chinchou for a Deep Sea Scale was my best bet for him. I got a bunch of Big Pearls and a couple more Shell Bells from my attempts, too.
>>58766319You might feel different if you step away for a day or two. Regardless, if you aren't having fun that's a good sign to step back.
>>58766970maybe. it's not like I burn myself out playing. I usually do one attempt per day, but it seems like I may have bitten off more than I can chew.
That's it, I've completed my nuzlocke.I caught one last pokemon, a Glimmora in Area Zero and I also beat Professor Sada.I'm gonna take a break but starting next year, I want to record and upload my nuzlockes to YouTube or anywhere else on the Internet. Those anyone know how to do that? I'm not the best with editing and what not and I don't know how to upload or even download gameplay footage say from my DS, 3DS or Switch for example.
fuck it, I feel like my emerald run has stalled a bit because I know I'll need to grind to beat Norman and cannot be bothered to do so, so I'll give Leaf Green another run and hopefully not die at the finish line this timeWent with Bulbasaur last time, who did well but hopefully Squirtle does better
>>58767299Huge Congrats on the win!I don't personally know how, but it should be simple to find on the web. Also don't expect too many views what with the amount of content available and Youtube's determination to become as shitty as humanly possible.
>>58767299Congratulations! No idea on the capturing, but I would probably look up Youtubers that play any games on consoles and follow their example
>>58765407You might like Jellicent over Walrein.
Littlemon team #40 to see which 1st stage Pokemon can beat Alpha Sapphire's E4 + Champ. Level cap, no bag items, usual restrictions. Deathless & reliable strat.I'm bending my rules here a bit, because this was a crazy and a fun team. The strat is>throw every entry hazard on the field>shieldon roars everyone to deathWhat a beautiful chaos. Ziggy debuffs their lead so Trubbish and Swinub can set up the entry hazards. Then Shieldon sets up with +6 Def and +6 Evasion. Then the Roaring starts. It also has Fissure, because why not. If Shieldon gets critted or something, Vanillite or Exeggcute can take over.I didn't expect Exe to do much, since the first three fights are Dark, Ghost and Ice, but oh boy was I wrong. Good HP and great Defense. It has Wide Lens, Sleep Powder, Synthesis and Leech Seed. Vanillite is the only member on the team to not take part in this madness. It's just a good Pokemon and does its thing. The Drake fight is the only exception to this strat. Vanillite kills the first four opponents with Ice Beam, then Exeggcute and Zigzagoon kill Kingdra. Mega Salamence dies to Shieldon holding Rocky Helmet. I've been counting the KOs but I have no idea how to count them this time. If a Pokemon forces a switch on the opponent and they die to spikes then who gets the kill? 2deep4me. I'm gonna put Vanillite and Shieldon somewhere on the list lol.
>>58755711It's the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come! The plan was to have Felis U-Turn to switch out and bust Mimikyu's disguise in the process, but Play Rough killed her before she could. Dentalium came out regardless, but Corkscrew Crash barely put a dent in the totem's health once the disguise was broken. A combination of burn and curse damage from the ally Banette quickly proved fatal, leaving the ever-reliable Asellus to finish what my Mawile started. In hindsight, I should've just relied on Asellus to begin with...
ok, I've officially given up on finishing my file in an unrelated game during my nuzlocke break. I guess I should return to my soulsilver file, but it's been so long that I barely have any motivation. maybe I'll sit on it and start a different game instead.
>>58770211That might be just the thing to get back into the swing of things. Either way good luck!
As if the game was trying to make up for losing Mawile, I get a Klefki as my next encounter. I could get some interesting uses out of her!
Might sound weird but anyone ever lose interest in a Nuzlocke if you’re deep into the game with little/no losses?
>>58771518only when gen 1, because of how easy it is to steamroll the game

>>58771518yeah, I honestly dont finish many nuzlockes because the games where I overlevel and steamroll dont hold my interest, and I tend to burn out grinding on the ones where I do have deaths.
I considered starting a platinum run so I could trade between it and soulsilver but man oh man was I not feeling it. doing a double nuzlocke like that makes you twice as fatigued in half the time, even with traded EXP.currently, I'm at blackthorn and about to do the team rocket segment in slowpoke well. I think I'll try making meager progress in the soulsilver file little by little to see if it piques my interest.

Casual run of Run & Bun got too easy and dull. I was using the same generalist team against most of the regular trainers so I restarted as a Nuzlocke. Only at Dewford and it’s pretty easy so far but it definitely adds a layer of tension that wasn’t there before. Also chose Piplup as my starter this time.
I don't have any updates, but Merry Christmas!

WHY DO I EVEN NUZLOCKE THIS GAME? WHY? Black2 Redux 1.4 on Normal Mode> vs. Team Plasma - Nimbasa City Prepared for the wrong grunt. I was expecting Magneton but got Scolipede. Team was: Pure Power Medicham as lead, Eviolite holding Electabuzz, Storm Drain Gastrodon, Sturdy Sudowoodo, Regenerator Audino and Mold Breaker Emboar. Used Fake Out on Scolipede, and switched back to Emboar but Emboar misses the range with Heat Crash which lets Scolipede set up a layer of Toxic Spikes. This later on poisons half of the team and by the time both grunts were dealt with, I had just Electabuzz and Emboar in party.> vs. Heartbreaker Charles - Route 5This is the fight where I bleed mons in previous runs. This time wasn't different as well. Team was: Sheer Force + Life Orb Darmanitan, Eviolite Electabuzz, Emboar, Blastoise, Stoutland and Water Absorb Quagsire. First three mons of Charles were cleared nicely but Druddigon, Bouffalant and Crustle wrecked havoc on my team. The Triple Battle format is confusing to me so there were misplays on my part when predicting moves.> vs. Rood - Driftveil CityTeam was pic related. Sage Rood's Chople Berry holding Reckless Bouffalant is a menace. Plan was to drop Attack to -6, Defense and Special Defense to -5 by switching between Initimidate Vespiquen and Filter Aggron. Then two Toxic Spikes would be laid by Ariados. Aggron would kill Bouffalant and Stoutland with few Power-Up Punches, Emboar would deal with Chandelure, Vespiquen would kill Zoroark, Lanturn and Eviolite Vanillish would deal with Swoobat. But everything went downhill when Bouffalant's Head Charge critical hits Ariados on the first switch. Plan was in shambles but I managed to remove Stoutland, Bouffalant and Chandelure before Simple Swoobat sets up +4 Nasty Plot and proceeds to wipe entire team.I invested way too much on this game. Personal best is Skyla's Gym where I wiped to optional trainer because I prepared for the wrong trainer.

Is emulator speedup cheating?
is hacking infinite rare candies into my file cheating?
>>58793353Oh, alright. I was also under the impression that diving worked closerto how ORAS does it and thought that it shared encounters with surfing for some reason.
Didn't lose any Pokémon in the Kanto gyms, Blue was a little more challenging but nothing bad.Officially swept all the gym, now onto a little grind for the final battle vs Red! So proud of the team that brought me here.
>>58794689Obviously the answer is yes, but isn't speedup different? I know RetroAchievements doesn't consider it cheating, even though they do consider a lot of other things to be. On the other hand, it gives an advantage compared to not using speedup, and is obviously not the intended way to play the game
Using speedup is technically cheating but it's cheating that everyone is happy with
>>58795642Do most people these days use speedup? I've always been conflicted about it, and I guess I should decide one way or the other before starting my next nuzlocke.

Started a Pokémon Yellow hardcore Nuzlocke today. It’s a fairly standard hardcore run, except the level caps are reduced by 10% across the board (so 10 for Brock, 18 for Misty, 25 for Surge, etc.).The early game went as expected. I got a Pikachu (named Sparky) and beat my rival, Blue. I missed the Route 2 encounter since I inevitably ran into a Pidgey before getting Poké Balls, then delivered Oak’s parcel. After that, I caught three more Pokémon: a Caterpie and both Nidoran genders. Caterpie is the important one because, as far as I know, once it evolves into Butterfree it’s one of only two Pokémon in Yellow that can beat Brock solo below level 12 (the other being Mankey with Low Kick). Confusion is really strong early on. I named the Caterpie Silkworm.I trained Sparky and Silkworm up to level 10 off the Viridian Forest Bug Catchers, then fought Blue again. Sparky took down his Spearow with ThunderShock and almost swept Eevee too, but I had to switch into Silkworm to finish the job, otherwise Sparky would’ve hit level 11 and broken the cap. After the rival fight, it was time for Brock.(1/2)
>>58796729Silkworm beat Brock’s Geodude with Confusion, but not without taking a decent chunk from Tackles. When Geodude went down, I realized I’d made a mistake. Normally, I set it up so my lead levels up mid-battle for a stat boost against the gym leader’s ace, but I forgot to do that here. That meant Silkworm was two levels under Brock’s Onix and was already sitting at about two-thirds HP.After three Confusions from Silkworm and two crit Tackles from Onix, we were both in the red. I couldn’t stay in because Onix was faster, so I switched to Sparky, my starter and the only other Pokémon that wouldn’t instantly fold to a crit. Sparky couldn’t actually damage Onix, so I had to stall for a Bide to get a safe switch back to Silkworm.Luckily, Onix used Bide immediately. While it stored energy, I swapped back into Silkworm and fired off Confusion to finish the fight.Next up is Misty, which shouldn’t be too rough thanks to the Bulbasaur I’ll get in Cerulean City.(2/2)
>>58796737nice job. good luck!
>>58795678I play on actual cartridges / SD card on my 3ds so still using regular speed. Though i watch a lot of shows and movies while grinding levels so i guess you could call that as sort of a speedup
>>58795511That is a pretty based team. You should grab the Psychic TM from Saffron City for your Agnes, unless that's against your run rules.>>58795642I can't personally see it. You're still doing all the grinding and playing through the game, unlike hacking in rare candies.
>>58796737After beating Brock, I made my way through Route 3 with Thorn as my lead so I could start leveling him toward Nidoking. The battles were easy at first, mostly Bug Catchers and Youngsters, and I caught a Mankey on Route 3, which I named Tantrum. Sparky Thunder Waved it during the encounter, so I headed to the Pokémon Center near Mt. Moon to heal up.On the way, I ran into Route 3’s final trainer: a Lass with a single Jigglypuff. At level 14, it was two levels above my highest Pokémon and marked my team’s first real encounter with sleep moves.Jigglypuff hit Thorn with Pound twice, so I switched him out. I sent in Sparky, but Jigglypuff immediately used Sing and put Sparky to sleep. Sparky’s too frail to reliably outlast the sleep timer, so I switched to Silkworm, who still wasn’t high enough to have any sleep moves of its own. Jigglypuff used Sing again, but it missed. After four Tackles from Silkworm and two Pounds from Jigglypuff, both Pokémon were basically one hit from going down. I considered switching Silkworm out, but Tantrum had just been caught and wasn’t at full HP yet, Prickle was still only level 3, and my other two Pokémon were already injured. Switching felt like I’d just be gambling on a wipe. So I clicked Tackle and prayed Jigglypuff didn’t answer with Pound.Silkworm’s Tackle, the last move it would ever use, brought Jigglypuff down to a sliver. Then Jigglypuff fired back with the dreaded Pound, and Silkworm became the first death of my Nuzlocke. I sent Thorn back out and finished the fight with Horn Attack.(1/3)
>>58798331After healing, I decided to skip the Route 4 Magikarp. Gyarados is strong, but with the reduced level caps it isn’t available until after Misty, and by then I’ll have the Old Rod anyway. Saving the Route 4 encounter gives me a shot at catching a Sandshrew after Mt. Moon, which would be amazing for Surge (Sandslash with Dig, plus Swords Dance later). My Mt. Moon encounter was a Zubat, which I named Squeak. That thing got boxed the moment I had a seventh Pokémon. The trainers in Mt. Moon were enough to evolve Thorn into Nidorino, and after grabbing a Moon Stone, he became a Nidoking. Nidoking easily handled Jessie and James, and after escaping Mt. Moon I headed to Cerulean City.In Cerulean, I picked up a Rare Candy, bringing my total to two (with the other from Mt. Moon). I’m not using them yet, since they’ll be much more valuable later. Then I fought Blue in Cerulean, and his team is way scarier than last time. Thorn deleted Blue’s Spearow with a couple Horn Attacks without taking any damage, which gave me a completely undeserved sense of security. I made the mistake of letting Thorn eat two Sand Attacks from Blue’s Sandshrew, dropping his accuracy and causing him to miss three Horn Attacks in a row while Sandshrew chipped him down with Scratch every turn. With Thorn at low health, I switched in Prickle (now level 12) to finish it. Prickle took some damage and brought Sandshrew to a sliver, so I sent in Sparky to Quick Attack for the KO. Next was Rattata, which is scary because Hyper Fang hits hard, but it never used it. Sparky knocked it out with two Mega Punches (thanks to the TM I grabbed in Mt. Moon). Eevee went down the same way, taking three more Mega Punches.(2/3)
>>58798339After the rival fight, I received the Bulbasaur in Cerulean and named it Bramble. Then I went back to Route 4 for my encounter. I was hoping for Sandshrew, but got a Spearow instead, which I named Shiv. Not ideal, but it’ll be great for Erika later. After clearing Nugget Bridge, I received a Charmander on Route 24, which I named Ember. I took Charmander over the Route 24 grass encounter because I needed a Cut user, and I really didn’t want Bramble (the only other Pokémon I had that could learn it) stuck with Cut for the rest of the game. Route 25 gave me a Pidgeotto, which I named Maverick. After clearing most of the remaining trainers (and intentionally avoiding the Youngster with Slowpoke, who wiped me once in 2024) and getting the S.S. Ticket from Bill, Bramble was at the level cap and it was time for Misty. The fight was a total pushover. Ivysaur is just absurdly good here, even at level 18.Next up is Surge. I’m still not sure what the plan is, and I might delay him for a while and hope Rock Tunnel gives me a Rock-type.(3/3)
>>58798331RIP silkworm>>58798339The rival fight in front of the Nugget Bridge is one of the hardest fights imo. good job winning.>>58798344Diglett Cave should suffice, right? you can use Repel to ward off weaklings and search for Dugtrio, unless...
Happy New Year everybody, I just started a new nuzlocke, FireRed, rules are simple, if a pokemon dies, it dies and I can only catch the first encounter, that's pretty much it.I picked Bulbasaur for my starter and I caught a Pidgey, a Ratatta, a Weedle and I even got lucky in Viridian Forest and caught a Pikachu. I beat the Pewter City gym leader Brock who was a piece of cake thanks to Bulbasaurs Vine Whip and I caught a Jigglypuff just before Mt Moon which I will be exploring tomorrow.Interesting fact, I've never won a FireRed nuzlocke before.
>>58798344Yeah, you're way below Surge in levels. It probably doesn't matter as much here as later gens, but I personally wouldn't feel comfortable until the mid 20's at the earliest.>>58798926Starting off strong, you just have to keep at it.>JewKek.

Mt Moon was a nightmare that took an hour for me to do, I caught a Zubat inside the mountain and Bulbasaur evolved into Ivysaur but then I lost Pikachu to a Team Rocket Grunts Ratatta that surprised me with a Hyper Fang. This pisses me off as Pikachu is a rare encounter in Viridian Forest and I did gain from exp from battling wild Zubats so all of that was for nothing and I really wanted to use Pikachu against the Cerulean Gym Leader Misty.Regardless I carry on and catch a Ekans before taking on Misty and no Pikachu meant it was harder. Ivysaur took out Staryu with Vine Whip but had to get creative against Starmie using Leech Seed and Poison Powder before also using Vine Whip and Starmie was taken down eventually.I then used a Rare Candy to evolved Pidgey into Pidgeotto and I also caught a Caterpie and Oddish.Tomorrow it's Digletts Cave, the Electric gym and SS Anne.
>>58799570Yeah but I lost Pikachu.>>58800494Thanks.
>>58801267The Mt Moon Rocket grunt strikes again! Kinda rough loss for Misty, but Pikachu has been underwhelming whenever i've used it, probably why they invented the Light Ball. At least Surge probably won't be a problem if you get Diglett.
>>58798795>you can use Repel to ward off weaklings and search for DugtrioI would, but Dugtrio’s over my level cap for Surge. Diglett evolves at 26 and the wild Dugtrio in Diglett’s Cave are level 29–31, while my Surge cap is 25. Diglett is still a solid option, but even at the cap it’s slower than Surge’s Raichu and can get OHKO’d by Mega Punch / Mega Kick.>>58799570I just beat Misty, so I’ve got some time before Surge. I’m planning to clear the S.S. Anne trainers (I usually fight them all), so my levels should come up naturally.
>>58800678Not a bad result for Tate and Liza at all seeing as rhey can easily decimate your squad. You also get to use Gyarados in another run, so there's that at least.
I'm playing FRLG+, which as the option to swap back and forth between which version it's counted as for encounters. I just picked up Bellsprout on Route 24, and I'm wondering if it would be worth it to swap back to FireRed for Oddish on Route 25 or try for Abra. The only other option on the route is Weedle, which is why I'm thinking of swapping. Vileplume is more likely to be good than Beedrill, but I would be missing Abra more likely. Opinions?
I'm doing a randomized pokemon yellow run. I got through koga ez because I got an eggecutor but I'm too scared of Sabrina and psychic shit in general and I should probably just go for Blaine first just because I feel safer dealing with the fire types.
Today I didn't battle any gym leaders but I did catch 4 pokemon and did everything on the SS Anne.I caught a Meowth, a Magikarp, a Dugtrio and a Spearow. Dugtrio was extremely lucky though I basically levelled up Ivysaur to level 23 then used repels to ensure my first encounter would be a Dugtrio instead of a Diglett, this will make Lt Surge easier.I thought I would be battling Lt Surge today but I guess not. Tomorrow is Surge and then I head to Lavendar Town.
>>58803703Sounds to me that it's more likely you'll benefit from switching over than not.>>58803706Very fair fear, but i've been fine going in gym order myself. You should be fine if you do Blaine first.
>>58803766Smart thinking with the repel trick. You should consider training Ekans up if it has Intimidate, obviously an extremely useful ability.
>>58802757Forgot about the S.S. Anne. Your team shouls be able to take Surge decently well once you get closer to his levels.
>>58806237Thanks. I will do that.

Team comp will probably change but hopefully everyone survives through that ordeal as well
Today I beat the gym leader of Vermillion City, the Aryan supersoldier himself Lt Surge and he was easy because I had Dugtrio take out his Voltorb, Pikachu and Raichu with just Dig. I then caught a Voltorb before entering Rock Tunnel and also catching a Machop before making it to Lavendar Town and training in Pokemon Tower.Tomorrow will be heading to Celadon City and possible beating Erika.
>>58798344After Misty, I fought Team Rocket in Cerulean City and made my way through Routes 5 and 6 to Vermilion City. While fighting the trainers on Route 6, Prickle, my Nidoran-F, evolved into a Nidorina. I used a Moon Stone to evolve her again into a Nidoqueen. Nidoqueen is a strong Pokemon, so she’ll probably stick around on my team for a long time. After that, I caught a Drowzee on Route 11, which I named Sandman, and I caught a Diglett in Diglett’s Cave, which I named Spade. The addition of these two new Pokemon required the sad decision to box my starter, Sparky. Pikachu is probably the weakest starter in any of the games, and it’ll probably stay boxed for the rest of the game. I still haven’t caught anything on Route 5 or Route 6 yet. After that, I boarded the S.S. Anne and grabbed the Rare Candy there. I’m saving any Rare Candies for the Elite Four, since I won’t have a way to level up enough normally as the level cap increases with each fight. I think you get 12 Rare Candies in Yellow if you collect them all.On the S.S. Anne, I also got the TMs for Rest and Body Slam, and I gave both to Prickle (turns out she would’ve learned Body Slam anyway, oh well). Then I fought my rival, Blue. The fight was pretty easy, maybe the easiest rival fight in Yellow. Prickle easily swept Blue’s entire team. After getting the HM for Cut from the captain, I gave it to Ember, my Charmander. After the rival fight, I realized I was still unprepared for Surge, so I decided to head to Rock Tunnel in the hopes of getting a Geodude. Geodude is immune to Raichu’s STAB Thunderbolt and resists both of Raichu’s other attacking moves, so it’d be the perfect choice.(1/5)
>>58807707To get to Rock Tunnel, I had to traverse Routes 9 and 10. While I was on Route 10, I encountered a Raticate. Hyper Fang is strong, so it would’ve been a great addition to my team, but it sadly died to a crit Vine Whip from Bramble. More bad encounter luck followed when a Machop appeared in Rock Tunnel, meaning I wouldn’t have access to the great Ground/Rock typing for Surge. I named the Machop Bruiser and added it to my party anyway.I decided it would be best to travel through Rock Tunnel and reach Celadon City before Surge, where I’d have access to more Pokemon and TMs. A roadblock shows up pretty quickly in Rock Tunnel with a mandatory Pokémaniac battle: a single level 25 Slowpoke knowing STAB Confusion, Headbutt, and Disable. Psychic types are deadly in Gen 1, and this Slowpoke could easily sweep my team, so I had to prepare. After some thought, I found a working strategy. I realized that since every Pokemon on my team easily outspeeds Slowpoke, I could open with Bramble, my Grass/Poison-type Ivysaur, and start with Vine Whip to take out a good chunk of Slowpoke’s HP. Pokémaniacs are a trainer type that will always use super-effective moves if possible, so Slowpoke will always use Confusion when I have Bramble out. Bramble can only get one Vine Whip off before it's dead to crit Confusion, so I’d need to switch to my Psychic-type Drowzee, Sandman.(2/5)
>>58807711Sandman takes little damage from Confusion thanks to its Psychic typing, and it would then be able to follow up with a Confusion of its own, bringing Slowpoke down to about 1/3 HP after two Confusions. Slowpoke will always use either Headbutt or Disable while Drowzee is out, so I could use the opportunity to switch to Prickle, my Ground/Poison Nidoqueen, and take down Slowpoke with two Body Slams. Switching in to a Confusion would be deadly due to Nidoqueen's Poison typing. After grinding Prickle up to level 25 and Sandman up to level 24, it was time to execute my strategy. It worked like a charm, and thanks to Slowpoke using Disable instead of Headbutt, Sandman was able to finish Slowpoke without me even needing to switch in Prickle. The rest of the trainers in Rock Tunnel were easy. I avoided the two optional Self-Destruct trainers, and the one mandatory Hiker with Geodudes and a Graveler, all knowing Self-Destruct, was neutralized by Bramble’s Vine Whip, which was able to outspeed and OHKO that trainer’s whole party. After making it out of Rock Tunnel, I was in Lavender Town. I collected TM39, Swift, on Route 12 and boxed it for now. It might be useful later in the game. I bought some Great Balls from the Lavender Town Poké Mart, although I haven’t caught anything with them yet.Making my way through Route 8, I had to be careful not to overlevel any of my Pokemon, since that would mean I wouldn’t be able to use them again until I beat Surge. At this point, Thorn and Prickle were at the cap, and Bramble was level 24, only one below. Shiv, my Spearow, was level 17, the only one comfortably below the cap, since I was training it up to later be used against Erika.(3/5)
>>58807714Now in Celadon City, I had a few things to do. I collected some TMs (Ice Beam, Counter, Rock Slide, Tri Attack) and an HM, Fly, which I gave to Shiv, although it can’t use the move outside of battle until I beat Surge. From there, I gave the guard a Lemonade and got into Saffron City, where I grabbed TM29, Psychic. At this point, I had to think about my strategy for Surge. My initial idea was to get an Abra from the Celadon Game Corner, give it Psychic with TM29, and then train it until it was a level 25 Kadabra. Depending on its Speed DVs, I might have had to train its stat EXP as well, since it would need to outspeed Surge’s Raichu for the strategy to work. Kadabra would use Psychic against Surge’s Raichu until Kadabra fainted (which could be on turn one, since Kadabra is frail), at which point I would switch to Prickle or Thorn, who are guaranteed to survive at least one hit against Raichu and could take down the weakened foe.I came up with a better strategy, though, and one that doesn’t involve DV luck. Instead of getting an Abra from the Game Corner, I got an Eevee from Celadon Mansion, which I named Bolt. After evolving it into a Jolteon, it easily outspeeds Surge’s Raichu, and although it’s too frail to guarantee more than a turn on the field, that turn is all I need.I fought my way through part of the Rocket Hideout until I found what I was after: TM10, Double-Edge. This move gives Bolt the firepower it needs to turn the tide of the battle with Surge. I would need to grind for coins from the Game Corner, but if I taught Thorn Hyper Beam, it would be enough damage to take down the weakened Raichu after Bolt's Double-Edge, even if Raichu OHKOs Bolt with a critical hit. Sadly, Bolt would be a sacrifice, but it was a sacrifice I was willing to make.(4/5)
>>58807719I grabbed the Coin Case in Celadon City, and after grinding the Game Corner until I could afford Hyper Beam, I was ready. The fight began with Bolt versus Surge’s only Pokemon: a Raichu three levels above my level cap of 25. Bolt moved first and took down nearly half of Raichu’s HP with a critical hit, taking some recoil in the process. Raichu responded with a Mega Punch for 37 damage, leaving Bolt with under half HP. Since it wasn’t a crit, Bolt had the chance to land a second Double-Edge, leaving Raichu with only a fraction of its HP. Sadly, another Mega Punch was the end for Bolt.I switched in Thorn, who shrugged off Raichu’s third Mega Punch of the fight and finished Raichu with a Seismic Toss. Didn't even need Hyper Beam.Bolt’s sacrifice will be remembered. With that, Surge was defeated, and next up is Erika. All I have to do is train up Shiv, my Spearow, ten more levels or so, and that fight should be a piece of cake.>>58803703I'm looking at the encounter tables and it looks like you can get Abra either way? Even then, I think you should go for Oddish. Sleep moves are underrated.>>58803706Sabrina is basically designed for a setup sweeper since her first Pokémon doesn't have any attacking moves. Do you have a Pokémon that can learn Swords Dance, Amnesia, etc? Swift is an option so you have 100% accuracy even after Flash.Sabrina is one of the few gym leaders where the fly/dig invulnerability glitch is a viable strategy, if you're into glitches. I beat Sabrina that way in one of my Yellow runs a couple years back.>>58807376That E4 run was awesome, glad you and your team pulled through. Respect for taking the team into Steven too, excited to hear the update.>>58807560Nice, Dugtrio with Dig is the Surge cheat code. Voltorb is a good catch, I think when it evolves it has the highest Speed stat in Kanto, right? Good luck for Rock Tunnel. I think your Pidgeotto could be great against Erika once it learns Fly.(5/5)
>>58807724I already did Rock Tunnel, I caught a Machop. Next up is heading to Celadon for me which I will do tomorrow.Good luck with your Erika fight.
>>58807376Good work! I like seeing Grumpig, not a mon you see all that often.
>>58809054Yeah i was surprised how much work it can pull for the later part of the game. It felt like a discount gardevoir that trades being able to learn thunderbolt for thick fat
Torkoal the GOAT, my Ampharos was running dangerously low due to Milotic's toxic, she was setting up dragon dance, got a couple curses in and body slammed Gyardos to death after tanking an EQ. Gorebyss finally finished off Milotic before dying to toxic, Gardevoir finished off the Tentacruel after Wallace used 5 Full Restores at the end.Not sure what I'm going to play next, Seaglass had a lot of ups and downs with the expanded movepools and typings (especially Maxie taking out my Feralgatr with gravapple Ursaring and my Gyrados with thunderous kick Dodrio). Not sure if I want to continue playing this for a dex completion or move onto another challenge, maybe monotype.
>>58809278Congrats! I used Torkoal on my forst Kalos team back when I first got X, so it's nice to see it shine.
>>58807724Nice work with Surge! Team is looking nice as well! Erika shouldn't come with any nasty surprises at least, you have multiple answers for her.
I lost four pokemon.Today Ivysaur finally evolved into Venusaur but I lost Ekans to a Nerds Grimer using Sludge but I did also catch a Growlithe and I got a Eevee in Celadon City and I even Doduo followed by Spearow evolving into Fearow. Then came the battle against the gym leader of Celadon City Erika. It was hard due to Poison Powder and Stun Spore and I lost three pokemon. First Growlithe intimidated Victreebel before using Roar to have the weaker Tangela come out first and then used Ember to take out Tangela, then Victreebel comes out again, I have both Fearow and Doduo use Peck but Victreebel is strong, eventually I sacrifice Ratatta while healing the two birds that took alot of damage against Victreebel and Ratatta was killed by an Acid, despite my best efforts to heal Doduo and Fearow, both Doduo and Fearow would also be killed by Victreebels Acid and them both being paralysed made things more difficult, regardless Pidgeotto came out to finish Victreebel of with Wing Attack and finally Growlithe intimidated Vileplume lowering it's attack stat before Pidgeotto took out Vileplume with Wing Attack again but nearly dying. It was a tough fight but I won against Erika.I also infiltrated Team Rockets Hideout and later today I will be dealing with everything in Saffron City.I didn't get a chance to play yesterday so that's why I'm playing twice today.
took a break from this over the holidays, time to get back on trackHeres the squad after Surge
>>58807376>Still got my TM Earthquake so figured i'd level up a Flygon for the Steven fight>Realise i haven't caught anything from route 123>Latios and Latias are a thing now since it's postgame>Try to catch the roaming Latios on that road since it's one of a kind pokemon so technically the same first encounter no matter how many times it runs away as long as i catch it on that route>Mfw 2 hours later and i still haven't caught itI should have gone with flygon
>>58722270https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Qqneo5YFYF1h66WzRa1C2SHa3-YssosZGVYOhErUK9M/edit?usp=sharing
>>58812860That's the annoying part trying to catch roaming legendaries. Especially if you pull a me and want Latias in a Premier ball to match the colors (not in Emerald but you get the point).
Things have not been good.I lost Pidgeotto to a Blackbelt in the fighting dojo. His Hitmonchan used Sky Uppercut while Pidgeotto was in the middle of Fly and my final bird was killed.I did receive a Hitmonchan for beating him afterwards and I used a Rare Candy to evolve my Magikarp into Gyarados but at Pokemon Tower, I caught a Ghastly but I lost Gyarados to a Team Rocket Grunts Koffing that used Self Destruct. Things looked unfortunate so I used a Water Stone to evolve Eevee into Vaporeon and I made my way down the Bycicle road and I'm currently in Fuchsia City, I plan on making my way up to Lavendar Town again before I take on Team Rocket in the Silph Co, am I prepared for Koga or should I do him later?
>>58807724>>58812162Yeah, Erika ended up being easy. Shiv evolved into Fearow, and after I leveled it to the cap by clearing Rocket Hideout, it swept her whole team with Fly. I was a little worried about Weepinbell or Gloom landing Sleep Powder, but luckily it never came up.With Erika down, there are four Gym Leaders to go, starting with Koga. My level cap jumped from 28 to 45, and I knew I needed a strong Psychic-type for Koga.I got exactly what I wanted with two big additions. After getting the Silph Scope, I went back to Pokémon Tower to catch a Gastly. While fighting the Channelers, my Drowzee, Sandman, evolved into Hypno. I did end up getting my Gastly there too, and named it Nightshade. I also fought Blue in the Tower, and it turned out to be a pretty easy rival fight.Nightshade is going to be huge going forward. Its Normal and Fighting immunities make certain fights dramatically safer since some enemy Pokémon literally can’t touch it, and it’s an amazing pivot into Explosion/Self-Destruct, two of the scariest moves in the game.I also caught a Kadabra on Route 8. The fight was difficult, and Sandman was my main Pokémon for it thanks to its Psychic resistance. Since Kadabra is dead to a crit Headbutt, I had to use Confusion as my damage source and slowly whittle it down while neutralizing it with Hypnosis. Eventually, after burning through several Great Balls, I caught it, and I named it Houdini.(1/2)
>>58814097After that, I finished clearing Pokémon Tower, and the Ghost Marowak’s spirit was put to rest by Shiv’s Fly. After another easy Jessie and James battle, I got the Poké Flute, but Houdini was still way too underleveled for Koga, so I needed a safe place to train it up.I decided to push through Silph Co. with Houdini leading. While I was there, I found another Rare Candy, bringing my total up to six, including the one each from Rocket Hideout and Pokémon Tower. I also found the TMs for Swords Dance and Earthquake, two great moves that’ll be useful later. Most of the Rocket Grunts were free EXP since they’re loaded with Poison-types, which are easy prey for Houdini. While fighting them, Houdini learned Psychic, which let it one-shot most of their Pokémon. One Grunt did have a strong Hypno, though, and it Poison Gassed both Houdini and Sandman, so thank goodness for the Antidotes I bought earlier.I also made use of Nightshade’s Normal immunity to switch in against Scientists with exploding Voltorbs or Electrodes. And I made sure not to fight Blue in Silph Co. yet, since his team has taken a big jump in level and my team stands no chance in its current state. Better to wait until after Koga to push further through Silph Co.Now, it's time to fight Snorlax and make my way to Fuchsia City. I'm a little worried though, as its Headbutt is powerful and does a lot of damage. It doesn't help that my lead Pokémon, Houdini, is physically frail even at level 39. I might have to grind a little more first.(2/2)
>>58813898Hold off on Koga, his ace is level 43 and his strategy is evasion and poison when he isn't Self-Destructing. Half his team has Levitate too, so no cheesing with Earthquake. You need to dedicate some time to building up your team as well.
>>58814101Team is looking really good, maybe even a bit overkill for gen 1 with how good Psychic types are. Funny enough, I also named an Alakazam Houdini in an old Platinum run.
>>58814097based fearow
>>58810063Honestly slept on that thing for so long, RSE was the last games I played as a kid before getting back into Pokemon in college and always ended up using faster fires like Blaziken before benching to counter water types.

>>58816086Congrats! Must be weird seeing that empty box knowing how far you've come.,
Today hasn't been great and somethings wrong with my Internet so I'm using phone data.I caught a Venonat and Voltorb evolved into Electrode and I also caught a Ditto.Unfortunately I lost my highest level pokemon Dugtrio to a Battle Girls Hitmonlee that used High Jump Kick which really pissed me off. Was there any need for her to use a Hitmonlee? Why not just a common Machop? Anyway I have no powerful ground type and I regret not using repels to avoid all the Ghastly encounters in Pokemon Tower so I could have made Marowak my encounter and then mabye Marowak could replace Dugtrio.I late caught a Horsea but failed to catch a Snorlax and it being the only one you can catch on route 12 meaning I can't get another one and I shouldn't have made it my first encounter. Things aren't going great but I still have Team Rocket to deal with in Silph Co. Wish me luck, hope there are no exploding Koffings.
>>58816934>meaning I can't get another onearent there two in frlg or is that only rby?
>>58817195Yes but the other Snorlax is on a route where I got a Doduo.
>>58814101I captured the Route 16 Snorlax and named it Dozer. I realized there was no need to grind for it, since I could safely pivot into Nightshade to block Snorlax’s only attacking move, Headbutt.Snorlax is way too strong to ignore, so it needed a permanent spot on the team. That meant boxing someone. Sandman and Nightshade are both valuable sleep users, Shiv is my only Ground-immune Pokémon (and my Fly user), and Houdini obviously isn’t going anywhere. In the end, I boxed Thorn. Prickle already covers most of the same role and is a bit bulkier, so it made the most sense.Prickle is now the only remaining Pokémon on my team to have been there for the Brock fight way back in Pewter City.(1/2)
>>58817752After that, I went down Cycling Road and picked up the Rare Candy there, bringing my total to seven. From there I made my way to Fuchsia City and went into the Safari Zone. I used Repel to avoid encounters for now and focused on items. I picked up the TMs for Egg Bomb and Skull Bash, and a handful of useful vitamins, which I fed to Houdini and Dozer. The main reason I came here was for the HMs. I got HM03, Surf, from the house in western Safari Zone, then found the Gold Teeth and traded them to the Warden for HM04, Strength. I’ll need both of those pretty soon. With that done, it was time for Koga. After clearing the Fuchsia Gym trainers, Houdini was ready. He easily swept through the first three of Koga's Pokémon, one-shotting each Venonat with Psychic. Koga's final Pokémon, Venomoth, survived one Psychic and fought back with a super-effective Leech Life, but another Psychic brought Venomoth down and with that, I obtained my fifth badge. I also got TM06, Toxic.I boxed the TMs, then biked back up through Cycling Road to Celadon to start prepping for the sixth rival fight. I’ve been leveling Dozer, and after clearing the Fighting Dojo I picked up a Hitmonlee, which I named Lee. I boxed it for now.Next step is more Dozer training so I’m ready for the rival battle.(2/2)
>>58817754This is looking to be a seriously cracked team. Once you get everyone equal in levels, i doubt anyone in rhe game could pose much of a threat to you.
Today has been unlucky and lucky for me.I infiltrated Silph Co and defeated Team Rocket but while Zubat did evolve into Golbat, I lost Golbat to Team Rockets Weezing using Self Destruct but I did however get a Lapras. Then when I entered Saffron City gym, I lost both Growlithe and Meowth to Channelers Gastlies using Destiny Bond but I got surprisingly lucky with the battle against Sabrina. Electrode used Rollout and got stronger, taking out both her Kadabra, Mr Mime, Venomoth and Alakazam. Tomorrow I take on Koga, will Ghastly be useful against his Koffings?
>>58819241Gastly is immune to Self-Destruct, getting poisoned, and resists the rest of the damaging moves, but at that low level it will just get one shot by anything in the gym.
>>58817754After Dozer cleared the trainers on Routes 14 and 15, it hit level 40 and was ready for Blue. Dozer learned Body Slam, replacing Headbutt, and I also taught Dozer Hyper Beam, giving it absurd physical power.Dozer opened the fight by dropping Blue’s Sandslash with Body Slam. When Ninetales came out, I used Amnesia three times, and from that point on Dozer was basically immune to non-crit special attacks. Dozer swept the rest of Blue’s team with Body Slam, then one-shot his final Pokémon, Jolteon, with Hyper Beam, but not without taking heavy damage from a super-effective critical hit Double Kick.I picked up the gift Lapras and named it Nessie. Sandman swept Jessie and James with Confusion and Headbutt, and then handled Giovanni too. Despite being seven levels under Giovanni’s ace, Sandman still cleaned the fight without much trouble. I got the Master Ball from the Silph Co. president. I’m saving it for Articuno or Zapdos later, although with the reduced level caps the legendary birds are locked until after all eight badges. It was time to prepare for Sabrina. I trained Sandman to the level cap by clearing the remaining trainers on Routes 12 and 13, Cycling Road, and the Saffron Gym trainers. Sandman also learned Psychic along the way, which is a huge upgrade.(1/2)
>>58820179Sabrina leads with an Abra that only knows Flash and won’t switch out. Her real threats are a level 50 Kadabra and Alakazam with STAB Psychic, plus Kinesis and Recover to drag the fight out.My strategy for Sabrina was as follows:1. Lead Sandman and use Hypnosis on Abra.2. Switch to Houdini, and use Kinesis until Abra is at the minimum of -6 Accuracy.3. Switch back to Sandman, and use Hypnosis again to put Abra back to sleep. If Abra wakes up and lands Flash, switch to another Pokémon to get rid of the accuracy drop and then send Sandman back in.4. Use Meditate until Sandman is at the maximum of +6 Attack. If Abra wakes up, use Hypnosis, and if it lands Flash, switch out and repeat Step 3.5. If Abra is asleep, Headbutt to remove it. If it’s awake, put it back to sleep first so I’m not starting the real fight at -1 accuracy from a stray Flash.6. Sweep Kadabra and Alakazam with boosted Headbutt. It worked exactly as planned, and Sabrina went down without much trouble. Now it’s time to Surf to Cinnabar and take on Blaine.>>58818296Yeah, this is probably the most stacked team I've ever had Nuzlocking Yellow. I've definitely been helped by not having had a lot of deaths this run. I thought reducing the level caps would make this run really difficult, but honestly it's been pretty easy so far, all things considered. I think the fight against Champion Blue might be the toughest part of the run though, even with this team.
>>58820185Gen 1 is pretty easy to get a leg up in, but it also punishes you for losing team members hard with no good repeatable grinding spots. Blaine has some levels on you, so he might be scary. Good luck!
after some pondering this is the team I'll be using against Roark, just need to edge their experienceUnfortunately my Eevee rolled for Flareon so I can't use it much here as a Vaporeon and Turtwig evolves at lvl 18 above the level cap
>>58821947I was about to say you could just use Monferno and Mach punch, but then i noticed this is Renegade Platinum. Good luck, you'll need it.
>>58820185Update: To reach Cinnabar Island, I caught the Route 12 Snorlax, named it Barge, and taught it Surf. I flew back to Pallet Town with Shiv and surfed south on Barge. This route avoids the Seafoam Islands, since I can’t use Articuno yet. The legendary birds are level 50, and with my reduced level caps they’re locked until after Giovanni.Once I arrived in Cinnabar, I handed the scientist at the Cinnabar Lab my Helix Fossil. He revived it into an Omanyte, which I named Helix. I decided Helix would be my lead against Blaine. Its great Water/Rock typing gives double resistance against Blaine's Pokémon's Fire STAB, on top of resisting the rest of Blaine's coverage and being able to hit back hard with a super-effective STAB Surf.I boxed Barge for now since I already have a Snorlax, and added Helix to the team, replacing Prickle, who had fallen pretty far behind in levels.I entered Pokémon Mansion, and used a repel to avoid encounters for now. Inside, I picked up another Moon Stone, some useful vitamins (which I fed to Helix and Houdini), the TMs for Blizzard and SolarBeam, and two Rare Candies, bringing my total to nine. Most importantly, I grabbed the Secret Key, which lets me access Cinnabar Gym.I tried to deposit most of the extra items in the PC for later use, but apparently my PC storage is full. Luckily I still have a few free inventory slots, so I don't have to toss anything… yet.
>>58823131I used the Secret Key to enter Cinnabar Gym and purposefully answered all the questions wrong to fight trainers and level up Helix. After fighting all the trainers in Cinnabar Gym save for Blaine, Helix was still only level 34, and I wanted Helix to evolve into Omastar before I took Blaine on. Omanytes evolve at level 40, so I had six levels to go.I went back to Rock Tunnel and trained on wild Pokémon until Helix hit level 40 and evolved into Omastar. Then it was time.Despite being fourteen levels under Blaine's ace and taking confusion damage three turns in a row while Blaine's Ninetales was on the field, the type advantage was overwhelming. Helix swept Blaine's entire team with Surf, earning me my seventh badge and TM38 Fire Blast.Next is Giovanni. I have a plan in mind for his first two Pokémon, but I'm not sure what I'll do against his last three Ground-types since they have powerful attacks and good coverage. Maybe I'll train up a Tentacruel, since they're easy to find in the water areas. After Giovanni, it's another Rival battle and then Victory Road. The end is finally in sight.
Today has been better. I beat the gym leader of Fuschia City Koga.Gastly used Curse and Spite on his first Koffing and Koffing was taken out but I did lose Gastly to his Muks Sludge. Venusaur took out Muk using Leech Seed and Razor Leaf, Electrode took out his second Koffing with one Spark and finally I had Lapras use Perish Song to doom Weezing before getting Lapras out of there.Afterwards I went to Power Plant and caught a Magnemite. I then began surfing to Cinnabar Island, i caught a Tentacool, Magnemite evolved into Magneton and I also caught a Krabby. Final catch of the day was a Psyduck in Seafoam Islands.Any advice for Blaine? I have two water types so I think I should be fine.
>>58822712Oops should have added the current moves they had.Monferno does learn Mach Punch upon evolving but due to its rule it can only learn one fighting type move and I needed the damage of Brick Break since he doesn't have Iron Fist. I was also hesitating if I wanted to link it to my Ivysaur since that way it would cancel the negative effect on it and decided to forget Mach Punch just to link them anyway afterwards oopsCould beat Roark with no problem after landing those Sleep Powders there wasn't much he could do. After that I got a great Floaroma Meadow encounter with Waru the Shroomish, and Uramaru the Voltorb decided to stick with me until it can kill MayleneRight now, I'm waiting for my Chesto Berries to grow and then fight Mars in Valley Windworks heh>>58823132yeah you get a lot of water type pokemon to clean Blaine' gym pretty easily, unles you get really unlucky Giovanni should not bring much of a problem either even with the level difference
>>58823192Yeah Vaporeon and Tentacruel should have no problem with it
>>58823192As long as they get some experience before you battle Blaine you should be fine. Just have to watch out for Arcanine and its level difference.
>>58807376>VS Steven>Dindin the Bellossom leads against Skarmory>Dindin eats a Toxic which Pecha Berry cures and then she misses a Sleep Powder>Dindin gets poisoned again but second Sleep Powder hits>I swap in Jett the Latios while Skarmory sleeps>Jett gets a Dragon Dance off>Skarmory wakes up during the second Dragon Dance and puts down some Spikes>Jett hits Skarmory with a Thunderbolt that fails to kill while getting hit back by a Steel Wing>Steven heals but 2 more Thunderbolts takes the bird down>Aggron and Metagross fall to Earthquakes>Cradily comes in. Jett uses Dragon Claw and at this point i remember that dragon type moves are special in this gen because it only does like 30% hp damage. Cradily uses Ingrain>Cradily tanks an Earthquake and hits back with an Ancient Power>Steven heals again but Cradily falls to 2 more Earthquakes>Claydol comes in. Dragon Claw does some damage. Jett tanks another Ancient Power>Jett can't take more hits so i swap in Larry the Slaking who gets hit with an Ancient Power before taking Claydol out with a Hyper Beam>Armaldo comes in and hits Larry with an Ancient Power that gives it an omniboost. Larry just loafs around.>Larry uses Brick Break and tanks a crit Slash>I swap in Ilon the Tentacruel that tanks an Ancient Power>Surf fails to kill and Ilon eats another Ancient Power>Steven heals. Surf does little over 50% damage.>Ilon tanks one more Slash that luckily doesn't crit and takes Armaldo out with another Surf, ending the fight.Almost threw at the last stretch but we somehow pulled through without deaths. Diamond or Pearl next i guess, whichever cartridge i manage to find first.
No losses today.I caught a Koffing at Pokemon Mansion and I revided a Helix Fossil at the place in Cinnabar Island and received a Omanyte. As for the battle against the gym leader of Cinnabar Island Blaine. He was no problem and no casualties. Lapras confused his Growlithe with Confuse Ray and then used Surf to wash the dog sway, Vaporeon also used Surf to drown his Ponyta and Rapidash and finally Lapras used one Perish Song on his Arcanine and you know how the rest goes.Next the Sevii Islands, I caught a Ponyta on One Island and a Poliwag on Two Island.Tomorrow I'm doing the rest of the Sevii Island, then the final water route back to Pallet Town and finally Giovanni.
>>58824603Congrats! I lile the mix between typical and rarer Hoenn picks! What are you thinking for your team in Sinnoh?
>>58824939Giovanni might not be too bad, but i can see his Dugtrio hitting pretty hard with Earthquake. His Nido's will probably be the hardest to deal with, but you might be able to tank both of them with Vaporeon, which isn't weak to Double Kick unlike Lapras.
>>58823199So some things happenedMars' Purugly was a bit scary but managed to pull it off again by abusing Sleep PowderIn Eterna Forest I found Virgil the Bunnery who got really attached to Coin and would not leave the party or Coin or it would die, so I was stuck with Uramaru, Coin, and Virgil until someone died. So of course, as it is with nuzlockes I got distracted on Route 216 and didn't avoid this ace trainer who had a Quagsire who I couldn't counter and lost 2 pretty good troopers and then Virgil died. On a bright note, I got a shiny Meditite and figured Milotic is pretty good and a guaranteed encounter on Mt Coronet so I took it. Gardenia was also pretty easy with my Crobat and the fact that Grass types are still susceptible to powder moves
Do you consider it fair to catch, and then release, pokemon in order to get the Pokedex Aide rewards in FRLG?
Today has gone well.I caught a Exeggcute at Three Island and I also caught a Tangela on my way to Viridian City to battle the gym leader Giovanni. First Vaporeon used Surf to take out his first Rhyhorn in one hit, then Lapras comes out and uses Ice Beam to take out Dugtrio, then Venusaur uses Razor Leaf to take out his second Rhyhorn, Vaporeon uses Aurora Beam to take out his Nidoqueen and finally Lapras uses Perish Song on his Nidoking and you know the rest. With Giovanni defeated, I've never gotten this far in a FireRed nuzlocke. Any advice for Victory Road?
Littlemon team #42 to see who can beat Alpha Sapphire's E4 + Champ. Deathless & reliable strategy, level caps, no bag items, usual nuz rules in a fightA bit of a no-brainer. Larvitar has a great movepool and pretty good stats. It just needs help from his little pals to set up. Budew and Hoppip have sweet support moves. So does Starly, but it can also knock out opponents with Brave Bird (on test runs). Blitzle is unfortunately a throw off Pokemon here, but helpful anyway. I like it though. Strat is:>debuff someone, larvitar sets up with dragon dance, sweeps everything with rock tombGlacia fight is always the hardest because of Abomasnow. We need to be very careful here. So a bunch of turns debuffing Abomasnow and stalling out his PP and waiting for the Hail to end. I came up with a fun strategy. Blitzle baits Abomasnow's Earthquake and I switch in Hoppip. Hoppip has Encore so it gets a few free turns to do whatever it wants like Confide and Flash. Every other fight is pretty easy. All time KO top list:30 / 30: Tentacool, Hippopotas, Rufflet, Goomy, Minccino, Totodile, Larvitar29: Teddiursa, Rhyhorn23 - 28: Tyrunt, Skorupi, Pawniard, Stunky, Gligar, Shellder, Bronzor18 - 20: Mienfoo, Anorith, Gulpin11 - 17: Gastly, Munchlax, Cranidos, Sneasel, Scyther, Diglett, Ferroseed, Machop, Amaura, Pancham, Shellos, Doduo, Staryu, Wailmer, Torchic, Slugma, Riolu, Squirtle, Binacle, Croagunk, Flabébé, Piplup, Vanillite, Shieldon
>>58827788>Today has gone well.gg>TangelaI think you should use it, mate
>>58827788For starters you really should grind your team. Venusaur and Electrode aside, you're quite underleveled
>>58824603Missed out on Shinx but managed to nab an abra thanks to my starters Taunt. Now to just tackle the first gym and then twiddle my thumbs while waiting for honey trees and the friday balloon pokemon to show up>>58826002I don't know. I should probably put some thought into it since this is a marathonlocke that's going to go up to at least gen 8 but at the moment i just can't be bothered.
>>58828402Grinding will take forever though and there are like no more trainers to battle.
>>58828626That's when you break out the Vs Seeker to rematch trainers. One Island has four Fighting type trainers outside of the hot springs that heal you for free, and cycling road has mons that give good EXP (Muk and Weezing), but your progress in the game might result in the trainers outleveling you after a couple battles.Grinding might not be the most fun, but sometimes you have to do it.
>>58827788Please make a thread for the elite fourWe need to see Connor finally beat kanto
>>58827627I would probably personally allow it, but I also see why others wouldn't.
I've just lost my nuzlocke. It's over.First I lost Voltorb and Venusaur to my rival Gary's Alakazam. And even after that, I would go on to lose so many pokemon in my reserves in Victory Road.First I would catch a Mankey and a Onix in Victory Road. But I would lose Lapras, Ponyta, Hitmonchan, Machop and Exeggcute all to the same trainer. Then I would lose Mankey, then Ditto, then I would lose five more pokemon to the same trainer, these being Vaporeon, Onix, Tangela, Koffing and Magneton. Then I lose Psyduck, then Krabby and Horsea and finally Poliwag, Omanyte and Tentacool. By then the nuzlocke was over.I did still have a Jigglypuff, Weedle, Oddish, Caterpie and Venonat left but non of them can learn Surf to help me get back to Victory Road so basically that's it, I cannot progress further and despite five more pokemom remaining, my nuzlocke ends here.
I know things got difficult torwards the end and I kinda wish I never lost Pidgeotto and Dugtrio but I still had fun and I got further than ever in FireRed. Tomorrow I will begin a new nuzlocke, HeartGold.
Here are the five remaining survivors. They cannot help me but atleast they avoided death.
>>58828751Thanks for the advice but it's a little to late. It's not your fault, I didn't check this thread before continuing, I am to blame, not you.>>58828774Sorry but I lost before I could make it, that would be lovely though.
>>58827882Congrats! Not surprised that a first stage pseudo got max ko's, or that Blitzle didn't do too much. There's just something about the like that keeps it from being great you know?
I beat Red and Blue, was about to start Yellow when I got the urge to round out the gen 1 and play Green. Being as I don't read Japanese I ended up starting Pure RGB as an alternative. Going through all of the mainline games with some romhacks thrown in, last time I got bored at the E4 running GSC concurrently so we will see if I can make it this time.Currently running hardcore, no repeats across games, might do genlocke shit not really sure.
This is my super darkworship nuzlock team so farwhat do you guys thing I should optimize
>>58827081as it turns out, losing your 3 normal types in one go before Fantina is pretty tough so that was basically the runWill try again but this time I will get some encounters I didn't get earlier like the Trainer's School egg or the porygon on TG Eterna Building. Similarily when I get one of the starters after fighting the reporter I will actually choose one and not only get the grass type I get first
>>58831450forgot the final screenshot
>>58830669Thanks! Electric Pokemon are like fast and sexy and cool, but these stats are not very good even after breeding for high IVs and EV training. Alpha Sapphire's fastest Pokemon is Steven's Aerodactyl who has 180+ Speed. I think this Blitzle outspeeds everything else in the game, so there's that. It was a great support
page 9 bump!non-nuzlocke update: I'm the filthy heathen traitor who took a break to play a non-Pokémon (Arceus forgive me), gave up, then went back and made a breakthrough. It's been difficult but I'm on the final chapter!nuzlocke-updates soon™
>>58831120Seeing as i've never heard of this hack, team levels. Eviolite for Magneton if you're not planning on evolving it.
Are there any good romhacks of HS/SS that up the difficulty and add a bunch of pokemon in similar vein like run&bun does for emerald?
I've began my HeartGold nuzlocke and so far so good.I pick Cyndaquil as my starter and I catch a Pidgey, a Spearow, a Caterpie, a Bellsprout, a Zubat found in Dark Cave, a Mareep and a Ratatta in the Sprout Tower.I managed to beat Elder Li by having Spearow take out his first Bellsprout, Mareep taking out his Hoothoot and his final Bellsprout is taken out by my Cyndaquil. I also beat the gym leader of Violet City Falkner quite easily by having Mareep use Thundershock to take out both his Pidgey and Pidgeotto. After the gym battle, Mareep evolves into Flaaffy and I make it to Union Cave. So far going strong.
>>58833549Forget to post team. Here's my team.
>>58833550Shame you didn't get Geodude, it's incredibly useful. Maybe there's still a chance you get one before Whitney, which would help against her Miltank and the eventual Team Rocket subplot.
Littlemon team #43 to see which 1st stage Pokemon can beat Alpha Sapphire's final gauntlet. Deathless & reliable strat, no bag items, level cap etc.Last of the starters, two bugs who can't learn any moves and their fish friend. Mudkip is the hero, but it could have gone any other way between him and Tepig and Turtwig. Mudkip tries to get a stat boost with Ancient Power, but if it doesn't happen the other guys can take over. Or Mudkip can even go on without the boost using Dive + Substitute + Leftovers. Kricketot doesn't learn any moves, but those few moves he has include moves that lowers the opponent's both attacks, so that's all we need. Combee can be used as a safe switch tool or move baiting. And gathering Honey.Barboach has Hydration + Rain Dance + Rest. That's a cool strategy lol. Strat is: >target someone and debuff them>try to get ancient power boost for mudkip>ap has 8 pp so it usually happens>if not, mudkip goes on as long as it safely can and then tepig and turtwig finish the jobWinning run had Mudkip KOing 29 enemies, so I'll write that down.
page 9 bump!I beat the game!>>58833550nice. spearow is incredibly useful at that part in the game. good luck!
>>58834162Shoot, 29 is a good number. What's left in the box to use?
>>58835569Bottom row is one team. Not sure about the others yet. A long time ago anon suggested that I use Smoochum. I should have listened better, it's a very good Pokemon. This is my public apology to whoever said it and to Smoochum fans.
>>58834105I'm well aware of how useful Geodude is against the first three gyms.
Today has been great and no losses.I got lucky and caught a Geodude in Union Cave and outside the cave I caught a Hoppip too. While at Slowpoke Well dealing with Team Rocket, i caught a Slowpoke and then it was time to take on the gym leader of Azalea Town Bugsy.First Geodude was able to take out Scyther pretty easily with just Rock Throw due to it being double weak against Rock types. Then Spearow used Peck on Metapod and Cyndaquil used Ember on Metapod. The battle was over and it was incredibly easy and after the battle, Cyndaquil evolved into Quilava. After that, I caught a Paras in Ilex Forest and then a Abra just before entering Goldenrod City. Any advice for Whitney?
>>58836072your Geodude *should* be able to solo not only Whitney but the entire gym. you got lucky and pulled a female Geodude so you don't have to worry about Attract. you only need to worry about getting flinch-combo'd by Stomp but Defense Curl should see you through. I honestly would NOT take my chances with Clefairy. Metronome can pull some bullshit out of nowhere and suddenly your Geodude is getting hit by a water/grass attack for 4x damage. maybe I'm just paranoid...don't forget to sell all your potions and buy Waters at the Goldenrod Department Store.
>>58836172>maybe I'm just paranoid...No, fuck that. Except if it's a Sturdy Geodude. But you will regret it for the rest of your life if you gamble on Metronome and lose a Pokemon.
>>58836172Yeah thanks for the advice. Gonna make sure to grind too. I hear the routes north of Goldenrod just before the Sudowoodo are filled with trainers.
>>58830811Was not expecting a level 99 ditto on the way to Cinnabar to almost end the run, now I have to grind. Lost my Jynx, Crystal Onix, Beedrill and Omastar. Raichu is the last remaining poke from Brock's gym.
>>58837219How did you run into a level 99 Ditto exactly? Is that a Green exclusive thing?
>>58837776action replay
>>58837776Pure RGB, fisherman right below Pallet Town had 4 level 99 magikarps and a level 99 ditto which transformed into Omastar and started wrecking my shit in.I got back, cleared the volcano and seafoam islands, about to hit the Pokemansion after I grind up the Charmeleon I caught.
>>58837807Charmeleon died to an Arcanine right after I entered the mansion. Caught a Ditto I traded for a Zubat I never used. Lost Lapras to Blaine. Caught a Nidoking in victory road. Lost Tangela to Lance and Nidoking to Blue but persevered.Final team was Kabutops, Snorlax, Marowak, Raichu*, Nidoking and Tangela. Raichu was my Viridian Forest encounter and never left the party, the real MVP of the run. Tangela had some clutch spores, Marowak's Ground/Ghost was amazing plus Bonemerang hitting flying easily one shot Blue's Charizard.RB"G"&Y done, time to move onto gen 2.
oops, I goofed; didn't notice the thread hit the bump limit
>>58838520>>58838520>>58838520New thread.
Don't mind me, just using this dying thread to post some images from my folders to try and restore them on the palanq archive
