DPP have their flaws as games, and I probably like RSE more overall, but Sinnoh will forever be my favorite region. Its got this ominous aesthetic that really shines through in the music. No other Pokemon game makes me feel the way that these games do. I legitimately boot up the game sometimes just to walk around the map and listen to the music while imagining the scenery. These themes are some my all time favorites:

How do you guys feel about the Sinnoh region? I know I'm far from the only one with these opinions, but I’m curious to hear what you guys think. What are your favorite themes? Favorite areas? Favorite aspects in general? Anything goes. The more niche and specific, the better.

I replayed diamond recently for the first time since platinum came out, and I was shocked at how much slower it actually is
>>
I've been playing platinum more recently, and I really appreciate how they handled the region. I used to fall for the ">8 HMs" meme, but you realistically only need 4, with cut and waterfall being extremely niche, and fly/defog being completely unnecessary. I still end up having to carry a Bibarel with Rock Smash / Surf (or Waterfall depending on my water type) / Strength / Rock Climb, but the region itself treats the HMs less like a one-off roadblock clear and more like ways to reward you for exploring. a lot of routes have rocks to smash for items, and a surf path to items, and a rock climb wall to items, and possibly a tree to cut for a side area or items.
The daily rotating pokemon center trainers provide a fair amount of exp just by going from town to town throughout the journey, and I like that you can fill your pokedex by simply fighting most of the NPCs in the game. Cyrus's fight in platinum is pretty challenging too, particularly if you're carrying a HM mule bibarel instead of a real teammember.

Platinum and BW2 are pretty much flawless as Pokemon games.

Ironically I like the region and detest the dex.

I love it, I did a lot of RNG abusing in Platinum, Pearl, and HG last year and it was a lot of fun. Been slowly 100%ing my platinum save with all accessories, symbols, living dex, underground decos, black trainer card, etcccc..

Really the game's main problems don't start to pop up until you get Rock Climb and how cumbersome that HM is to traverse with. Otherwise it's really no real different than Johto and Hoenn's HM slop. You're using just as many HMs in Hoenn's late-game (Surf, Strength, Dive) as Sinnoh's (Surf, Strength, Rock Climb). Defog exists as filler for 2 areas in the game entirely and Waterfall has never been an important HM because it's always the last one you get in every game and only exists as an unnatural gate into Victory Road/Pokemon League

>How do you guys feel about the Sinnoh region?
It’s my favorite region next to Alola. The way the mythos of the region impacts the people and their environment is really interesting. It got me into general mythology across the world. I also like the somber feel with it being the coldest region. Mount Coronet being a center point that you’re going through several times is very cool as well.
>What are your favorite themes?
Lake theme
Commander (like this more than Cyrus’s)
Sunnyshore
League night theme
Route 216 (honestly all of the routes)
Rowan’s theme
The music that plays when you find the Starly (absolutely love the remix in PLA)
Dawn/Lucas’s theme
Oreburgh
Hearthome (best city theme)
Frontier Brain
Game Corner
Surfing
>Favorite areas?
Sunnyshore, Stark Mountain, Valley Windworks, Veilstone, Hearthome, Distortion World
>Favorite aspects in general? Anything goes. The more niche and specific, the better.
I like how the Pokèmon are obtained. I fully admit the repetitive roster of Abra, Geodude, Zubat etc is a flaw but stuff like Drifloon, Munchlax, Spiritomb, Rotom, alongside features like the GTS & PokeRadar made getting each mon feel like it matters. I also appreciate the blend of familiarity and new ideas with stuff like the BF and new evolutions.

If this thread is still up later I want to give more thoughts on other aspects and anecdotes about my experience

I love shit like that in pokemon. I love Hoenn's Regis for the same reason.

One of my favorite memories was when I was spending the night at my aunt's house and I went through Snowpoint Temple in Diamond with no idea how to wake Regigigas. I remember searching it up and finding about the Regi chambers in Hoenn that I didn't even know existed. I thankfully had my Emerald cartridge with me, so I spent all night catching and Pal Parking them up. Was fun.

OP here, I fully agree about the dex. The repetition of common encounters is a little unfortunate, but it helps make the rarer encounters that you need to go out of your way to find stand out. It really helps a Pokémon feel special to obtain when you have to deliberately hunt for it, or at least have it be a reward for engaging with an optional mechanic, like honey trees and mining. You can really tell how they were trying to follow in the footsteps of Gen 2 in this regard, along with the new evolutions and pre-evos. Really, I like how much DPP try to tie themselves into old gens in this way.

As for features like the Pokeradar and the GTS, I feel like they really added to the post game experience a ton. Beating the game in DP feels like such a huge achievement since they’re such long games (I think it took me months on my first playthrough) and yet there is legitimately so much to do in the post game that it feels more like the game opens up rather than closes out. It’s a bit less tangible nowadays but the global online connectivity of DP was revolutionary in making the games feel rewarding to play well after the campaign. The ability to trade and battle with people at pretty much any time, in tandem with the ability to catch new Pokémon across the region, battle difficult NPCs at the battle tower, and explore new areas around it, made sinking hundreds of hours into the game feel effortless.

You mean like, the fact that Fantina is fought your first time through Hearthome, and Maylene needs to be fought before Crasher Wake? I wouldn’t really call that pacing, though I do understand preferring the way DP handle gym order.
Though there are lot more differences to consider than just that

This shit was so much fun back in the day. The entire underground was just a great expansion on the multiplayer aspects of secret bases in Gen 3, I just wish the underground didn’t look so unbelievably plain.

I’m very weird on how the games treat the process of raising a team. I don’t want to spend time grinding a new member but I also don’t like just putting them on the bench to passively gain experience. Gen 4’s not perfect about it either but I think it’s close to being the best. The aforementioned interesting ways to obtain them are part of why. I also like the fact that you need to see all of the Pokèmon in the Dex to fully start the post game.

IMO DPPT did the best implementation of online besides maybe Gen 6’s PSS. It really felt like it was intertwined with the rest of the game without being too annoying (mainly looking at the trade evos as GTS is a gamble). DP’s post game is some of the best for a first time through a region. I’m not big on Contests but I knew a few people who were dedicated to that especially after the anime so it was nice to have a break from battling.

Maybe? I’ve occasionally seen people complain about gym 3-4-5’s pacing in regards to DPPt.
