>>58735896I hate the second category from the image so much.Give each Form it's own separate equivalent Mega Form, not stupidly combining them. It's stupid design-choices like those that have negative permanent results. It shows a lack of foresight and care that a franchise like Pokémon needs. Meowstic and Pyroar, who have clear distinct Gender Differences, have a Mega shared for both Genders, and now that's just a thing that's canon now, instead of us getting a separate Mega Male and Mega Female for them. Mega Tatsugiri also could have been done better, at least there are different Mega Forms, they just could have made them more distinct. Mega Latios and Mega Latias are just way too similar, Latios and Latias were already quite similar but still distinct enough, yet the Mega Forms make them near identical, in this they're separate Pokémon.

>>58735896At least Tyranitar incorporates the prevo aspects into the base form in a way that makes sense for the design. I wouldn't say it's subtle itself, but it is in a way that Feraligatr and Chimecho aren't. It always had spikes, so let's give it a head spike; it always had a color piece on its stomach resembling a prior form, so let's change the color from blue to red as a callback to another form, which, in combination with more black spots (something it already had), we can make a face and the red will make the face look more agressive.
There's good and bad of each design philosophy, but I'd say from a concept perspective, the "prevo" category is one of the better, but tends to be the worst in execution thanks to designers just slapping references on like Feraligatr, while the lore writers try and come up with illogical bullshit to justify it. The "make it black" doesn't always make sense from a lore perspective, but is also one of the more innocuous categories.Merging forms can be done well, but it's a lazier route. Sometimes makes sense (chimera cats exist), sometimes doesn't (why did the female lion suddenly grow a huge mane).The "markings and spikes" is the worst concept in theory, and the execution tends to be very hit-or-miss as well.
