The animalification of Pokémon ruined Pokémon for me.
>>58747550Name one reason to have real animals in the same world as Pokemon
>>58747556Eating a sentient animal is icky to morality
>>58747556It stops Pokémon from being just animals with funky powers. Remember when Pokémon were monsters?
As a kid I figured Pokemon evolved from existing animals, so naturally there would still be some animals in the world that had not yet gained their pseudo post-apocalyptic pokemon evolutions caused by radiation or whatever.
>>58747596>post-apocalyptic pokemon evolutions caused by radiation or whateverand then the mongoose woke up from the coma
>>58747559>>58747566Nah, it's pretty cool watching them prey on each other and the countermeasures they use to avoid being preyed on. Both realistic and fantastical at the same time.Example: Wailord using sonic attacks confuses Wishiwashi's banks to devour them by the hundreds, but if it is too slow, Wishiwashi will form its school form and kill Wailord using kamikaze torpedoes
>>58747550Word of god (anime) says real animals died out long ago. It makes sense that their evolved counterparts would share similar traits
>>58747556It was kinda cool the way Tajiri envisioned it earlier on, where pokemon were a new field of study that still baffled biologists and scientists I prefer pokemon being the only fauna, but that's one reason
>>58747556Animals existing it the default position. There needs to be a positive condition to justify erasing them, but I’m bored so fine >what do people eat if animal don’t exist? >plants exists along along aside plant Pokémon, objects exist along side objects, why shouldn’t animals exist along side animals >there are millions of animal species in the world and only around 1000 Pokémon (and that’s not even factoring that Pokemon in the same family are the same species so that real number of Pokemon species is around 600 and then you have to erase the ones Pokemon that aren’t animal equivalent and the stand alone legendaries. It’s astronomically stupid to think that 400 Pokémon can replicate the niches of millions of animals >the dex makes references to animal all the time all the times what’s a bird, a mouse, a wild bull? How do they possibly have the concept of any of those animals if they don’t exist>its implied that People don’t always know that Pokémon existed, >>58747743The ecology of Pokémon and interactions between species is one of the only redeeming factors of the otherwise sloppy and embarrassing world building of Pokemon’s main series. But those can still happen even with animals existing. Also it’s almost never shows up in the games because shilling the industry plants, Ohmori’s pedophilia, and cutting corners are more important to game freak.
>>58747865They almost referenced Tajiri’s original animal lore for the 20th anniversary. They considered incorporating into SM the lore that Pokemon replaced regular earth animals by coming out of ultra wormholes, and mentioned Indian Elephants as a specific example. Yes, we could have had “all Pokemon are UBs” stated by the game directly.
>>58747900>How do they possibly have the concept of any of those animals if they don’t existThose are humans made up to categorize them
>>58747900>>there are millions of animal species in the world and only around 1000 Pokémon (and that’s not even factoring that Pokemon in the same family are the same species so that real number of Pokemon species is around 600 and then you have to erase the ones Pokemon that aren’t animal equivalent and the stand alone legendaries. It’s astronomically stupid to think that 400 Pokémon can replicate the niches of millions of animalsNew Pokemon are always being added, and they always existed in universe, si the real number of Pokemon species is probably in the millions
>>58747556makes pokémon more special>>58747559pokémon are as concious as normal animals
>>58747550>>58747559vegancucks
>>58747849Explain fossil Pokemon then.
>>58747550First they came for the animals, next they'll come for the plants...
>>58748024No.They are not
>>58748078Stop being stupid. It's Icky because we are a sentient creature, it would be like eating humaniods.
>>58747550what
>>58748593Don’t want to be that guy, but we already eat sentient creatures (being able to perceive and feel pain). Animals are sentient. You probably meant sapient, (having higher-order thinking) Sentient (can sense) Sapient (like Homo sapiens)
Animals in Pokemon will always be funny because they actually had no idea how far they were going to take this franchise back then
Real animals alongside Pokemon is far more logical, and pushes the series into being sci-fi like it was originally. No animals is nonsensical and makes the series pure fantasy without any logic.
>>58747556It makes Team Rocket and other villain teams that steal or hate Pokemon. make more sense.
>>58747550If pokemon had just been stuff like Jigglypuff, Blastoise, and Mr. Mime, I can absolutely understand why it feels normal to have animals also occupy the same world. But Rattata and Pidgeotto have existed from the very beginning. Maybe there are more regular animalistic non-monstrous Pokemon in later gens, but Game Freak fucked up any type of cohabitation with the creation of those two lines. Pokemon are the equivalent of animals. No, they aren't 100% analagous due to their near-sapience (or full depending on the game), but that's the closest you're gonna get. That's what makes the world interesting.
It made sense to have animals when the Pokemon world was an alternate version of the real world (real world countries and historical events were referenced), but after the transition into a fantasy world that's only loosely based on the real world, it didn't make sense to keep animals
Fuck all this conversation. What happened to my vikings?
>>58749146Most of them live in Minnesota
>>58749146>Purrserker foreshadowing
>>58747909Which part of the teraleak was this?
>>58747556Humans are real animals in the same world as Pokemon. How did humans get there if other primates, other mammals, etc don't exist?
>>58747550Autists will look at you dead in the eye (or won't because they're autistic) and tell you this is what the pokémon world should look like
Stuff like real coral and barnacles still show up sometimes, but nothing that would be considered an "animal" in the way most people think of animals.
>>58748771Uh huh, do you think your dog can perceive higher concepts?A Popplio a stoutland and a Rowlet sat together and conversed a plan that wouldn't be out of place for kids to think about.Even in the early anime there is primitive culture and abstract thought from pokemon. You won't get that from a cow or a horse
>>58749146Galar implies they existed>>58749278Cinema
>>58748828/thread
>>58749899>monsters hiding among animals as though they were mimicsthat's exactly what I want
>>58748828>>58751492Not really The only difference is that sci-fi will try attempt to do biology on a fictional creature, doesn't matter if there's real animals or not, while in fantasy it can just exist for no reason.
