2v2 is already almost too complicated for Pokemon
There's a reason 3v3 battles never took off
Multibattles work fine in other RPGs because they're a lot more predictable than Pokemon is
1v1 in Pokemon is already very unpredictable with a lot of interactions and 2v2 doubles it
At 4v4 it would take forever to make turns and it would feel practically random at that point what happens each turn

It is

1v1 you're considering this:
1-4 type matchups
4 potential moves out of lets just say an average 50 move pool unique to that mon (which changes and grows every gen)
2-3 potential abilities
1 hold item
At least 3 of the mons stats (1 atk, 1 def, spd)
Switch to 5 other potential mons

Now double battles 2x all that AND add in several new mechanics and possible interactions unique to the format
Triple battles 3x it and quad battles would 4x it
Add on to this that each time you go up one mon in battle positioning becomes much more significant
The complexity doesn't just increase linearly with each additional mon you add to the battle

Simply too much to think about
Battles would take forever and feel totally random
At the bare minimum you'd need a whole extra prep stage at the start of battle to show both players the position of the mons at start because that alone is a 1/16 dice roll

1v1 battles are already like this...

you control how much thought you put into a turn

Press-turn + Smirk, then we'll talk
Actually no, because GF will always fuck something up

Can I get a quick run down on what Press Turn and Smirk are and how they work?
>>
>>58755223
Press turns are your number of turns, but if you hit a weakness (or switch to another character), the icon glows and allows you to have an extra turn for that icon only.
Smirk happens when you get a crit or nullify a hit, and it basically guarantees a crit or dodging attacks.
>>
>>58755247
Wait so with Smirk it’s just a confirmation of a crit/dodge or it guarantees a crit/dodge?
>>
>>58753954
press turn is a dogshit system though
>durr you should be rewarded for things that already reward you anyway
yeah no
>>
>>58755261
No it's like a status effect that lasts for a single action for that specific character. You hit a crit, you have a chance to get smirk, which allows you to get another crit for your next action and greatly increases your chance of dodging attacks as long as you have that status. Imagine gaining +6 evasion and accuracy and focus energy but for your next action only, then it goes away.
>>
>>58755271
Ah ok, I mean that sounds a bit busted, I’d think in Pokemon it’d have to more situational or have crits split into two categories for the sake of high crit moves and guaranteed crit moves.
>>
>>58755278
It is, especially when you have an NPC you can't control that uses attacks nullified by bosses. Although you can remove smirk from enemies by inflicting statuses on them and you can't gain smirk if you already have a status effect.
>>
>>58755289
Ah I see, if it were in Pokemon do you think even volatile status effects like confusion, taunt, seeded, torment, cursed, embargoed and infatuation should block smirk or just paralysis, burn, poison, freeze and sleep
>>
>>58755247
Smirk was so much more busted, it also fully buffed all stats, prevented you from getting crit or your weaknesses exploited, and if your whole party was Smirking they recovered half HP & MP. Luckily that last point is exclusive to the Player.
>>
>>58755296
Well I'm not OP, but I guess if it was like SMT, they would also prevent smirk. Although this is mostly an issue with bosses due to their large health pool and how they generally resist some (but not all) status effects.
>>
>>58755307
Wasn't that only when you used a buffing ability?
>>
>>58755289

FUCK YOU, WALTER!
>>
>>58755317
Honestly I have no clue, but it's SMT so people usually have buffs up anyway.

The absolute funniest thing has to be SMTtards or Personiggers trying to push that they're "hardcore" RPGs when pretty much every single game is just
>spam buffs and debuffs
>spam the super effective move so you can spam the super effective move even more
And then even the latter stops mattering once you can just spam Almighty skills
>>
>>58756961
I find it even funnier when you discover how to break the game, and every encounter becomes "press AUTO".
Pokémon may be "Press A to win", but SMT literally does it for you.
>>
>>58754618
This is why I like legends za battles
Buy legends za
Buy legends ZA
and the DLC
>>
>>58755307
I actually liked the busted nature of it, it also means that you could get ambushed by a random demon, they hit your weakness, and fucking steamroll your entire party
It's chaotic
>>
>>58756961
SMT being the hardest game ever was only a meme from the 2000's when people weren't used to the franchise
>>
>>58755278
>that sounds a bit busted
Understatement. You use a fire attack on something that's immune and you are in serous danger. But that's the thing about SMT, it's broken, but in a way that's fair to both sides.
>>
>>58758751
It mostly came from the fact that SMT has the whole "if MC dies = game over" and then there's a bunch of random demons with Mudo/Hama who could troll you. But even that's really easy to work around. I was surprised when I heard SMT5 and P5 had that mechanic after 4 removed it because I never had it happen once
>>
>>58758972
Demi-fiend kept doing that to me...
>>
i maintain that a pokemon game made by atlus would be absolute kino
