how do we feel about Pokémon Special Pikachu Edition YELLOW VERSION ?
>>
i hated it. pikachu is a fucking asshole
>>
The OG cashgrab

cheap anime tie-in

I think I'll replay it right now, and when I get to the surfing mini game,
I'll give my pikachu surf so I can play the based minigame.
I replay gen 1 dozens of times a year, but I usually do red or blue, but I like yellow too so it's like a special (pikachu edition) occasion.

I like the idea of it, but found it frustrating to play the early game. You pretty much have to get a Mankey for Brock. As a kid, I wouldn't have known to do this. The ability to get all 3 starters is really cool and the changes in the Gym Leader teams and Elite Four movesets and AI was a nice update. The game also changes some other trainers to match up with the show which was something I think most people missed.

I'm glad it exists for those who wanted to play it like it was the anime, but I've always preferred Red and Blue. There is also one thing I like to do in Red and Blue which wouldn't make sense in Yellow, although it's not officially part of the game, and that is battle Prof. Oak at the end of it. You can do the Prof. Oak battle glitch in Yellow too, but I would always play it to give him the starter not picked. Again, it makes no sense in Yellow. Yellow has it's own fun glitches too, but Red and Blue is more fun in that area too.

The made the game more babyish in a way
the redesigns, giving you every starter, and having Pikachu follow you and talk to you until it loves you, which doesn't really do anything and is just for babies to clap to.
Yet, they didn't really make the game easier, actually kind of harder, especially with the start of the game (just get Mankey and/or Butterfree, I always went for Butterfree because I thought a fully evolved mon at level 10 was OP even when I was like 6)
and raising the levels of gym leader pokemon.
They also fixed the issue where psychic types were accidentally immune to ghost, instead of being weak to them.
So I think all of that is a good trade off and it's still a fun and solid game if you like to replay gen 1 sometimes,
Yellow is a good way to switch it up for a slightly different experience.
I would rather play this than frlg or let's go because those are gay and let's go is actually for 2-year-olds.

wtf...?!

I was disappointed that it didn't include more characters from the anime; it's like half-baked fanservice.

For example, in PLGPE Misty's sisters appear, but as generic swimmer trainers. Okay, if you couldn't give them an individual model, you could use models similar to each of them. Daisy is practically a Beauty Trainer.

Yes, I know that in Shudo's novelization they all have black hair (even Misty), but the anime version with colored hair is the one most familiar to fans.

In fact, I don't know if it would have been too difficult to just use the Beauty model and simply change their hair color and dress for the three of them with a small accessory: a flower for Daisy and some red pearls for Violet.

It sucks. You get a shit starter, the gym battles are worse as fan service and it doesn't fix any of the usual Gen 1 issues.

It was my first Pokemon game and honestly it's a miracle I ended up a fan of the franchise with how awful the beginning of the game is with Pikachu if you don't know about Mankey. On the flipside Mankey and Primeape are still my nigga 26 years later.

First sign that GF was lazy and selling you the same exact game over and over again
>>
>>58757694
In Shudo's book, they all have hair but dye it or wear wigs, so you still have a point. Different colored hair is how they would present themselves.

>all have hair
black hair
>>
>>58757571
I picked over Red/Blue, I hesitated because I preferred the original starters over Pikachu.
but I'm glad I did because of the other features, sprites closer to the original artwork, Jesse and James, in Colors.

Its better then

> LETS ZLAP HIDEOUS PINK SPIKES ON DONPHAN AND CALL IT A NEW POKEMON !!!!!

paradox mons were a mistake
>>
>>58757571
the new sprites all fucking suck
except exeggutor but only because it's taken from gold
>>
>>58757571
A shameless cashgrab but still worth having if you're the type to replay R/B a lot. The anime stuff is mostly lame, the cool changes are the ones people rarely mention.
>>
>>58757751
Joke's on you I've had this game pirated for over twenty years now
