Mega Mawile, for example, stayed a complete shitmon even while mega-evolved. For Furfrou, Fur Coat gave it semi-viability as it could survive a Close Combat. Its loss essentially made the mon pretty much close to worthless.The "league" you mentioned just highlights the fact that using Furfrou to battle is but a novelty.
