U-turn was a move given to bug types to give them a niche only they had.
But lately a lot of fighting types have gotten this move along with knock off, a dark move.

Do you think type moves should be more contained and specific? As in only bug types can use u-turn and only dark types can use knock off.

I mean, bug is easily the worst type in the game bar. None not even close and it seems each generation they keep making it worse and worse.

they should nerf u turn to 60 base power

Only good bug type is Volcarona and that has nothing to do with being a Bug, in fact being a Bug holds it back. It’s stats + Quiver Dance are what make it good.

u-turn could really benefit from the scald treatment, or maybe give it an extra functionality for bug types

pokemon need coverage moves outside of their STABs but they should probably trend towards damage focused moves rather than utility moves. if the types lose their utility niches you just wind up with cases where similar types are pitted against each other simply on their type chart matchups and you often get winners and losers like steel vs rock or fairy vs psychic

Make it so it keeps the switching effect, but only does damage if a bug type uses it

The whole movepool is overdue for a rework.
But they are chippingg away at it.
I like what they did in ZA with charge moves and multihit moves to give them niches.

Scizor has been consistently good since it got Bullet Punch.

Biggest issue for psychic types is knock off and u-turn. Far too much damage on those utility moves. And fighting types can run both for super effective damage on psychic types.

distribution was insane even in gen 4

This. Even by level up the only Bug Pokemon to get U Turn naturally in Gen 4 is the Yanma line. Stuff like Hoppip had it in their natural learnset

U-turn has been widely distributed for a very long time.

I think GF agrees with this design choice since they've been starting to limit the spread of universally good moves

as a general rule i don't think moves need to be contained but for those two specifically they really need to get the toxic treatment and have their distribution severely cut. i'm at least 85% certain that u-turn is the primary reason why fairy is resistant to bug. seriously why does tapu koko or meowscarada have the dragonfly return
>>58764674
>u turn to 60 base power
>>
>I will use a ghost or psychic type to counter that fighting type!
>Knock off does 78 dmg super effective and removes your item
Yeah uuh... Knock off is too insane. Like, why does Toxapex get to learn knock off?
>>
>>58764660
No, but to those outside the type it should be limited to ones that at least make sense thematically.

Yes, that's the joke
>>
>>58764660
It depends on the move and what uses it. Nothing gens 1-7 should be restricted as much as they are, but Generation 8 and 9 need to gtfo.
>>
>>58764671
they should've made it super effective on fairy like they were originally intending to, I get making them weak is an intentional design decision but they don't have to be total ass, most of them are already getting fucked in terms of stats/moves

Pokémon move-design philosophy went to shit.

I liked it when moves were based off physical attributes.
Like Peck being a flying type move but Pokémon with horns like Nidoking could use it. So Pokémon like ground type with horns could "stealth-use" bird moves.

Now movepools are almost entirely based off competitive.
Every Pokémon of similar type has the same fucking movepool aside for signature move..
