God, the designs of the monsters in that game were so stupid. I know they are based on actual Yokai, but so are many Pokemon too, and they still have a lot more work put into them than the Yo Kai Watch designs. Even Stunky is an example of this, Yo Kai Watch just put a butt-for-a-head on a human body, and even visibly show it farting, Pokemon at least themed it around a skunk and made it's tail a sort of hidden cannon for it's attacks instead of just have it do the obvious of farting out of it's head for it's attacks.And then there are the endless clones of their mascot character. People in Pokemon complain about Pikaclones? The Yo Kai Watch devs didn't even waste a second to create dozens of clones of the same damn mon.

Most of the ones they primarily promote the series with in the first game are based on actual Youkai, and the second game introduces a lot of classic Youkai that were absent, but I'm certain over half the Yo-kai pokedex is made up of characters based on food dressed in feudal japanese garb, characters based on regular japanese wordplay, or characters based on japanese mishearings of english words. It's even more obvious in Yo-kai Watch 3 when those characters aren't made to look Japanese at all.
