I haven’t played since SM, but only want to get one for myself bc of money issues

Should I get ZA or scarlet? I’ll be honest I don’t really care about open world that much, megas are cool but I’m more into story, exploration. Are the two that similar?
I’m pretty basic with Pokémon and just like seeing cool shit with a team, will I get more bang for my buck with a certain one?
Graphics aren’t a huge issue, care mostly for gameplay and story

>ZA or Violet?
Get a life instead
>>

I prefer SV both for the story and gameplay. Sure ZA is a different, more original kind of gameplay but it honestly gets boring and not satisfying at all after a while. I like the story on both, I found SV's particularly good.

SV
>>
>>58765680
The Rogue Mega fights alone are more fun than anything in SV. The turn based combat has gotten old and boring.
>>
>>58765680
SV is a dumpster fire, but it's fun and the story is off the walls retarded
ZA is just a grind with bad combat, bad world navigation, and a badboring story
>>
ZA is possibly the worst game of all time

SV+DLC is the best modern Pokémon experience
>>
>>58765680
Literally play rby or gsc instead lol
>>
>>58765895
... which is kind of sad, but ZA really is a terrible experience. Damn I missed that retarded bike dragon while running around the nintendo 64 lumiose city.
>>
>>58765680
I asked this question last month and was told ZA. I’ve had fun since. My only “regret” is that ZA has no new species but the DLC added some of the Paldea mons so that’ll be my way of getting to know them until some of them inevitably get into Gen 10.
>>
>>58765680
ZA
>better story and characters
>battles aren't slow and different from the previous turn-based games
>lots of cool shit you can have with your team thanks to megas
You already don't care for open world and like megas so it should be a no-brainer.
>>
What's the best pokemon game for switch? I might check out the 3DS games too. and which one has the hottest customization for the pokegirl

Fucking neither of them, both games are dogshit

SV is better overall. ZA is fun but it's pretty light on content.

ZA if you want to play the current thing

sv is extremely fun with dlc, lot of stuff to do, za is extremely fun at the beginning before you start noticing glaring issues with the core gameplay, I was thinking za is great because online, but dlc was a wake up slap for me, this game is a scam after first 100 hours unless it gets more dlc in next year
>>
>>58767057
telling you more, za is fresh right? but they are fixing retarded rng grind on fly, so either wait until pokemon day for second dlc announcement or buy it used, it's not worth full price, and yes, retards think you grind with pokemon hyper zones, while you do trainer battle hyper zones kek

a good game maybe

Depends on what you’re after, I’d say both are strong on the story and character department
>SV
+Paldea is a whole region with a larger dex of 400 in the base game
+if you haven’t played since SM there are a lot of new Pokemon from Gen 8 and 9 to use
+Main campaign is essentially going around doing 18 main challenges for a badge which includes gyms. You technically can do them in any order but the don’t scale
+DLC adds two new areas, over 200 more mons and has its own storyline
-Unfortunately is prob one of the most unpolished Pokemon games. Nothing gamebreaking but there will be slowdowns and lag if you play on Switch 1 and can make things feel sluggish
Gameplay is mainly just your standard turn based
>Z-A
+More action based where you can catch and battle Pokemon in real time. Gameplay loop is fresher and tighter if a bit on the grindy side. But you like number go up in games, you’d like it
+A lot more polished than SV and doesn’t have the lag problems
+Story is more linear and focused and there is a sidequest system as well
-Dex is mainly Gen 1-6 so there won’t be much new Pokemon other than Megas
-City only setting leaves a lot to be desired if you enjoy the whole adventure angle of Pokemon. Is more dense than SV which can feel empty
-DLC is more grindy and doesn’t really have new areas besides pocket dimensions. Does add more story and side quests

SV better because pokemon bike
Bonus points for Violet because the pokemon bike actually uses its wheels in that version

ZA is more interesting and unique.

>Graphics aren’t a huge issue, care mostly for gameplay and story
Then definitely SV. I mean the gameplay is largely what you expect, except the open world makes looking for and catching Pokémon less boring which is nice. There's a huge selection of Pokémon available.
The story is the first story in the mainline series I would call good, especially because it actually has a proper finale that ties everything up and that doesn't feel rushed as fuck. The characters also have more depth than a puddle for once.
>>
>>58765680
If you have money issues then you'll get more out of Scarlet/Violet
Plus the open world lends itself well to exploration and team building; being able to go virtually wherever you want from the get go means you have insane pokemon variety from the get go
And as other anons said ITT it genuinely has some of the best story beats out of the whole franchise
>>
SV. The rogue mega battles are the only fun part of Z-A. The rest is way too routine and railroaded.
>>
>>58765680
Palworld
>>
>>58767360
In what way in more interesting?
>>
>>58767275
>Dex is mainly Gen 1-6
The dex from base game plus DLC in ZA is only around half of the gen 6 national dex.
>>
ZA has the most f-able waifus in pokemon history
>>
>>58767017
Incredibly based. New Pokemon Snap is so fucking good.
>>
>>58765680
I greatly prefer Z-A's fresh gameplay even if it is unpolished and has various issues, but if you're into story and exploration then SV is the way to go.
>>
>>58767639
ZA doesnt have Cynthia
>>
if you actually have money issues i would honestly just emulate and/or buy a completely different game. give PMD a try or something if you haven't already
>>
ZA and SV are horrid, I'm skipping to Gen 10 anyways (inb4 more disappointment)
>>
>>58765895
Not if you don’t have any friends
>>
>>58765680
Obviously you’d get Z-A, if you’re having money issues then off rip Z-A is cheaper than SV. SV is also riddled with some of the worst performance of a modern Nintendo game, while Z-A’s polish is the direct result of that. SV’s dlc requires you play with a group of other people in order to unlock literally anything in Indigo Disk and Ogre Oustin in Teal Mask, including extra Pokémon to the Pokédex. Z-A is a complete single player experience but also comes with a multiplayer that has an incentive to play because you unlock more Megas. The caveat to this is you’re paying for Nintendo Switch Online, which will add to the cost of either game if that’s all you’re playing.

NTA, but it offers a new way to battle which can let pokemon which were previously awful shine. Rather than just picking the strongest moves, you can think about how moves interact with one another and how well they suit the pokemon you're using them on to create more unique strategies.

Like for example, an extra small pokemon might favor avoiding attacks and using projectiles to snipe from a distance with while an extra large can make good use of AoEs/melee attacks but needs tankiness. If you have to get into melee range but your pokemon has low movement speed then an approach move like Quick Attack can be useful. A slow pokemon might want moves with short cooltimes rather than the strongest moves with long cooltimes. If you have lots of moves with fast animations then it's easier to find opportunities for Protect/Detect in the middle of consecutive attacks while moves with long animations benefit more from taking the time to set up boosts or defenses in advance. If your pokemon's weakness is easily avoidable with movement then maybe you don't need to bring countermeasures for it while you probably do need some way to defend yourself against hitscan moves like Thunderbolt. That sort of thing.

It's not perfect, and plenty of pokemon get screwed over by not having abilities or moves being too good/bad for no reason, but it's something different from the same game we've been playing for the past 20-30 years and could serve as a nice foundation to build upon in the future if they unfuck the bad parts of it like the positioning/pathing or not being able to lock on during dig/bounce/fly/etc. So for OP's purposes it might be better to wait until the next game that uses this battle system rather than Z-A since that system is currently unpolished and the game content is lacking, but if you like megas and want something fresh then I'd say it delivers on that. Personally, I've been enjoying it more than any pokemon game I've played in the past decade.
