You now remember the Kantonian Gym in Alola
>>
why did game freak do this
>>
>>58775319
It was the 20th anniversary, which means they have to go all in on pandering to KANTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
>>
>>58775319
ostensibly for the 20th, despite it not being part of the 2016 release
>>
>>58775319
The whole point of the Alola league was their goal to imitate the Kanto league to attain national recognition.
>>
I like this tourist trap joke way more than the shitty Nugget Bridge reference in the same town. Once again USUM wins out.
>>
>>58775327
>dp has 151 regional dex of mostly kantomons
>sm has kanto regionals and references to kanto crammed into every corner
oh god wind/waves is gonna be unbearable with the kanto pandering again isnt it

Teasing LGPE. Your character has a signature from a Gym Leader in Kanto from USUM and in Let’s Go Surge gives you his autograph.
>>
>>58775372
Why did they make Surge the autograph-giver? Doesn't even fit a military man like him, it'd make more sense if Sabrina did it since she's a movie star
>>
>>58775388
Because that'd require acknowledging Post-Gen 1 attributes of Sabrina, which goes against the nostalgia pandering. Genwunners only remember Sabrina as the psychic dommy mommy with the psychic projection multiple personality disorder because they conflate her game counterpart with her anime counterpart.
>>
>>58775389
Could've gone for Erika who is like a local celebrity in the most important city of the Kanto region
or Brock or Misty because that's who every genwunner remembers

It's a stretch to call Gen 4 an anniversary celebration or Kanto pandering. The 10th anniversary was hardly a thing. There was the American "Journey" event, the Pokemon X CD, and the Indigo League DVD sets.

2016 was a different beast. It was the first time there was a big marketing push. A lot of that was riding the momentum from X/Y, even though 2014-2015 revenue had flatlined. The success of Pokemon Go lead to this weird situation where the 20th celebration bled over into 2017-2018 to capitalize on that Pokemania 2.0.

The 30th is coming after 10+ years of the Kanto machine and the nostalgia machine running at full speed. They don't need the mainline games to push Kanto stuff like they did in 2013 or 2016, and unlike 2016, there are multiple generations of adult fans who grew up with later games. There are adult fans who started with RSE or XY or SM. Z-A is probably a good indication of how they'll celebrate the 30th, with a wider range of new forms and evolutions across all gens.

Obviously we'll get Kanto stuff, like the Pikachu redesign, but not at the expense of other stuff. This is an island hopping adventure, and it's the 10th anniversary of Sun and Moon, so I expect we'll see lots of Alola pandering too.

A reference to how many Japanese people immigrated to Hawaii (despite Lt Surge being American)
>>

It's likely we'll see Galar pandering too, as to foreshadow Legends: Galar, so really this anniversary is more of a celebration of 3D Era Pokemon as a whole, especially if you bring LZA into the picture to cover XYORAS.
>>
>>58775428
Galar might get the short end of the stick to preserve the excitement (and designs) for its own dedicated game. We'll probably get more lore breadcrumbs and hints to get people talking, and then 1 or 2 updated Galar Pokemon. +1 more if you count Meltan, since GF treats it as part of Gen 8 and it was part of the 20-ish celebration.
>>
>>58775428
Depending on how much work was done on the Legends Johto game, we might see some of those concepts and designs repurposed in WiWa. If they treat the region as a vaguely Asian homogeneity, rather than a bunch of distinct SEA cultures, then it would be easy to slot in elements and species from Johto
>>
>>58775428
ZA already did the set-up for Galar. I don't think Gen 10 will have much Galarwank. It's way too fucking far away and iirc IRL the brits had minimal influence around that reas.
Since it's asia I think it'll have more Japanwank, specially so since they've got to hint™ at that Gen1to4 MMO in case they haven't canceled it.
>>
>>58775389
Let's be real, her game version is a mess already.
>>
>>58775458
A few mentions of "dude dynamax lmao" don't really count when they also have NPCs mentioning Paldea and Terastal, and not everyone is smart enough to realize "oh shit galar revisit incoming" based on Falinks being the sole gen 8 Mega, just like how they failed to realize "oh shit kalos revisit incoming" based on Battle Bond no longer transforming Greninja into Ash Greninja and the absence of Xerneas, Yveltal and Zygarde from SV.
>>
>>58775467
Don't be dishonest dude. You know it was far more than just that. Like, just before the DLC happened Galarian characters got more mentions and references than those from XY itself. Leon got mentioned like ten times while Diantha got mentioned once.

Malaysia and Singapore were a British colonies. English is still the primary language for both countries, in terms of common use and government use. A big reason for their cultural differences, compared to neighbouring countries, stems from that history of British colonization. It also has a big impact on media, with a lot of English media being imported without the need for translation, and a lot of English dubs produced specifically for those countries, especially with Malay's history of spotty enforcement against media piracy. In that sense they're similar to Hawaii, this weird mishmash of Asian and American culture.
>>
>>58775487
Nevermind then,
I was only thinking of the dutch and Indonesia.
>>
>>58775519
In terms of Pokemon, the British introduced livestock to Malay and Singapore. Cows, chickens, pigs. They also introduced dog and bird breeds to be kept as pets. They brought better stock of species that were native to the islands like sheep and horses. They didn't introduce European wildlife like deer and fox, since the intention was to improve agriculture (and keep their existing hunting companions and pets).

So we'll likely see a regional form for Yamper, Wooloo, maybe Ponyta. Perhaps a new regional Persian that evolves from Galarian Meowth. But we probably won't see the likes of Nickit or Obstagoon.
