I'm sad that I missed out on Pokemania because I wasn't born in time. It seems like a much more fun and soulful time within the Pokemon community.
>>58778228what was your first Pokémon game, OP.
>>58778241Black 2
There was no community back then everyone was 10
>>58778257>started with the last good mainline gameI'm so sorry anon
>>58778266Just because there wasnt a subreddit doesnt mean there wasnt a community, zoomoid.
>>58778376You are the only one talking about reddit here.
>>58778228Literally just go to a convention and find some pokemon fans.
>>58778378Would you be happier if I said "fandom wiki"?
>>58778266Pojo, Azure Heights, TRsRockin, Psypoke. Hundreds of geocities sites lost to time.Even if you weren't on forums, there were plenty of official websites and portals. PokemonStadium.com used to update with a new team of the day. It became a computer class ritual, even at the tail end of Pokemania a bunch of us kids would check the Stadium 2 site and talk team composition, even though it didn't amount to much more than "Wow Tyranitar is so cool"
>>58778228It was the worst thing that possibly could have happened to Pokemon. All the slop GF releases nowadays to rave reviews and huge sales are the direct consequence of Pokemania making it so they never had to compete or try. (See also: Madden once EA got the exclusive NFL rights and no longer had to worry about 2K or GameDay.)
>>58778228>fun and soulfulIt was always consumerism slop.
>>58778706It was the fattest of times.
>>58778706you wouldn't get it
>>58778228Pretty much every zoomer thinks this, but they're too afraid to admit it. That's why they lash out at gen 1. Every time it gets attention it's a reminder of what their zoomie brains missed.
>>58778749im a zoomer and i like genwun though
>>58778706>a media product is consumerismretardfag
>>58778761You're mature enough to acknowledge that good things existed before you did. You're one of the good ones. We'll spare you.
>>58778706japan has the same thing but they make the food and plushes themselveszoomzooms have it better tbqh
>>58778796This is more soulful than Eggo waffles.
>>58778228A boomer 100% made this post
>>58778721yeah we wouldn't.
>>58778810It's a qualitative difference, not a quantitative one. You lack the ability to discern slop from soul
>>58778823The Mario looks soul to me
>>58778823you lost your ability to discern soul after middle school. sorry your life has been miserable since.
>>58778810>>AN ENTIRE FUCKING SECTION DEDICATED TO SHITCH ACCESSORIESFUCKING PUUUUUUUKE FUCK YOU
>>58778839No, I can recognize how much better things are now than they were during the Iwata era. That doesn't mean there's 1:1 parody with the late 64/GBC era.
>>58778810Pure sovl
>>58778721Man, remember when Nintendo games were for kids and not 30 year old manchildren?
Soulposting is a retarded attempt by /v/ermin to turn "thing I like is better than thing you like" into an allegedly objective statement of fact without having to actually provide any evidence or indeed anything beyond subjective feelings.>"My thing is better because it has SOUL and if you can't see that you don't have a soul!!!"These same /v/ermin will fall back on oomerisms and other buzzwords in a vain attempt to cover for the fact that they have no actual argument.Soulposters belong in the grinder.
>>58778769i like gen 2 more though
>>58778769stop trying to groom minors on discord
>>58779007zoomers are pushing 30 now, lil bro
>>58778257>Started with the best game in the franchiseDw anon, you can move on from this franchise, the only good part of pokemania was Takeshi Shudo trilogy
>>58778955Lol cope kidIf it makes you feel any better I feel bad that kids grow up with soulless games now but the old soulful ones will always be there at least
>>58779016>No refutationI accept your concession. You're not an oldfag. You're just an old fag. And frankly I doubt you're even over 25 yourself given your posting style, which reeks of underageb&.
>>58779014Zoomers are also 13-18 and the average age of this board is like 17.
If you were a kid with little to no friends, having some Pokemon cards made you a popular kid, or at least a kid who didn't picked on. I had some bubblegum one day at summer camp and I was the star of the group for THAT one day. The anime was huge and anyone could get a toy or two, official or bootleg, it didn't matter. Anytime we traded cards, we put them over the sun to see if they were fakes. By the time the online groups started showing up, I was already out of collecting the cards but still watched the anime. I didn't get back into the games until Gen IV. Adults at the time thought it was stupid, whatever arguments you hear about Gen III-onwards with the designs, that was already happening with Gen I among adults who weren't on in it.The big one that gets me is when people cry about Pokemon becoming 'diverse', when it was already like that if you went to any of the toy stores that had a Pokemon sections and they ALL had a Pokemon section, kids of all races were grabbing toys, plushes, games and so on. TPC only recently realized the adults buying the merch were the kids who helped get Pokemon to where it is now and the human characters represent said fanbase. Once you go global and become a corporation, you tend to look at your demographics and some suits in HR and PR will take note of that. Treating Pokemon like a niche shonen anime that didn't air on Toonami is fucking stupid, The gate was left open even when Pokemania died, it was just a matter of who wanted to stick around.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fp-drwvewxs

>Boomers are actually browsing this thread and board Fucking disgusting i'm going to puke
>>58778266For 8 weeks, November and December of 1999, Burger King would host event nights promoting the First Movie. It was a relaxed space, seems to have been supervised by volunteers but to a child it just felt like a pokemon-themed recess, daycare, scouts sort of thing. It was a good experience for a kid, really easy to feel like you and all the other kids around you have something in common. The Go craze in 2016 is the closest we have gotten to this since, but I think we're due for another big shift. Maybe next year for the 30th anniversary.
