post almost obscure but soulful things and details that were removed with the progression of the series. I'll start with battle transition screens that were based on the type of encounter and the levels of your team

The care
>>58779967>>58779971yes, yes, it's true, but i mean, it's not an obscure thing the lack of care of modern games. Im talking about small features
Did they get rid of the trainer ID lottery?
>>58780060the fun
>>58780064I think only gen 9 doesn't have it. In gen 5 only BW2 has lottery but it's not based on ID

>>58779893Love you for making this threadI miss the way regular trainer battles were treated in Gen 2 and, to a lesser extent, Gen 3 and 4. What I mean is, I miss how, despite being weak fodder, they were treated as meaningful in their own right, with rematches that expanded their teams and sometimes particular niche uses like how some gave you items or called about swarms in gen 2, or how some held particular items that could be stolen, or gave tons of money to farm currency (like the rich boy/lady on route 104 in RSE or the Gentleman/Socialite on route 212 in DPP) or had teams of 6 mons to farm exp (like the breeders on route 117 in RSE or the collector on route 215 in platinum). It’s a small detail but things like this, among other things, made NPCs scattered around the world feel memorable, which, in turn, helped make the entire region feel populated with actual people. >>58779967>>58779971>>58780082Ironically all things lacking in your very posts
>the percussion in gen V tracks would get louder if you were walking>trainer card ranks (unless those are still a thing and i forgot)>record mixing allowing you to have other players' singleplayer content in your singleplayer save>pokeball icon in the battle menu shakes when the pokemon is close to leveling up>event distributions that involved doing more than just "pick up god at the grocery store" (not really obscure but i still miss them)probably more that im forgetting
Footsteps sound based on the material they walk on
>>58780538ZA is the first time a 3D game has recaptured that sense of meaningful NPC interactions. Some of them are battles, but even the non-battle quests still manage to explore personality quirks and make them feel like characters and not just copy pasted clones of the same Trainer class. Even in Hyperspace, where Trainers fall into that copy/paste format, having class-specific item rewards makes those classes feel distinct and memorable. The writing helps a lot too. Even though BW had a lot of unique and interesting NPC interactions, the English translation was hurt by the lack of Nob-isms. He managed to pull a lot of personality out of otherwise unremarkable dialogue. I often wonder what XY may have been like if it had Nob punching up the script.

>neckbeardie/weirdies make a thread attempting to make a manchild safe-sapce>reality pops its head in>soijack projection to handle reality returning so hardLove to see it. I don't have a problem with the removal of trivial details, because I was never the target audience of the thing, thus never actually was at the correct age to autistically and completely affix to the property as presented in those critical formative years.
