Even during the “pandering to smartphone kiddies” era that upset Hoennfags at the time, it was clear that there was some vision for Hoenn on their part. Sinnoh’s prequel did fuckall with the settings people liked from Sinnoh, and pandered more to Unova, with Dialga and Palkia getting ugly horse forms that amounted to less of a stat/playstyle change than Giratina’s did nearly 15 years prior. The remake was outsourced to nothing-for devs because Gamefreak clearly didn’t want to make any more remakeshit. Sinnohfags are having to contend with the fact that their pandering is going to center around Lucario/Garchomp (mostly Cynthia)/Rotom, and not much else.

Megas take as much effort as a pokemon (Though some clearly didn't get much), for a gimmick that's dropped as often as not and doesn't exist for half of gameplay. SWSH and SV had none of the previous ones catchable until DLC added them out of obligation, aka in areas where the average player would already have a full team and then some.
