Wtf is Anpanman?
>>
Weird splits. Why is disney Princess a brand and wouldn’t some of the shounens be covered under Jump of we’re calling that a brand? Spider Man is a part of the MCU AS WELL. Might as well just lump Cars and Toy Story into a new beand called Pixar or Disney Animation, including Winnie the Pooj and the Mouse itself. Batman coild be a larger brand called DC Universe or something. Honestly a bit surprised to see Fist of the North Star up there.

Japanese-only baby series

Merch branding technicalities. It boosts numbers, but it's the only way to qualify the characters under the same umbrella since otherwise you'd have to count them all individually like Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, etc. Jump stuff actually does those numbers as individual franchises while Disney Princesses is more similar to the Hello Kitty brand if anything

Isn't the gap getting even bigger? I don't recall Pokémon being 200 billions over number two before.
>>
>>58794983
Pokemon blew up during covid and never really slowed down. Nintendo could have done something similar with Animal Crossing but they're too behind in terms of merchandising/licensing. Important to note that the dollar has devalued quite a bit lately, though.
>>
>>58794904
So I guess this is not the year Pokémon will try to get better
>>
>>58794904
Holy shit, really Hello Kitty is that huge?
I was under the impression Disney had more royalties for its licences use and collabs. Women truly are capitalism best friends and this comes from someone who is from franchise that has served only debatable quality games while making shekels out of trading cards and merch.

Fucking how. They haven't had new movies in ages.

Fake numbers

Back then most men work for money while women spend it, now it's both.
>>
But like 10 of these are Disney's.

I never understood how Winnie the Pooh was the highest Disney franchise. If you told me it was in the 15-20 range I would believe you, but number 3 is wild. It must have a high international (read: Japanese) love.

Probably gorillion of his plushies being bought by women worldwide just to be thrown at their favorite Japanese skater pretty twink boy and husbando after every his performance.

I knew it had to be some weird Japanese thing.

More importantly what is hokuto no ken doing there? I hasn't been on TV for 30 years if not more. What the fuck is it beating licenses like naruto and LOTR for??
>>
>>58794918
>>58795374
Fist of the North Star is like 99.9% Sega pachinko machine gambling money.
>>
>>58795333
It's universal appeal baby shit. Same way Mickey Mouse makes any money. Every band-aid, vitamin, chicken nugget, plushie, shirt, towel, headband, diaper, mug, or whatever other crap with the characters in it contributes to it. Do you think all of Pokémon's money comes from games?
>>
>>58794918
>Why is disney Princess a brand
Dolls and dresses. Princess has been its own brand since 2000.
>wouldn’t some of the shounens be covered under Jump of we’re calling that a brand
SJ publishes various works that each have their own brand deals and ownership structures
>Spider Man is a part of the MCU AS WELL
Spidey's brand was split for a long time, because Marvel sold off a bunch of properties piecemeal. I assume there are still grandfathered licenses from that more fractured brand era
>Might as well just lump Cars and Toy Story into a new beand called Pixar or Disney Animation, including Winnie the Pooj and the Mouse itself
Like Spidey, Pixar had a split deal prior to Disney buying the studio. Each property was managed separately as part of a limited agreement between Disney and Pixar. Even today, Toy Story comes out on top, and having a portfolio with 2 top brands looks better than a unified "Pixar" brand that gets dragged down by unproven IP.
>Batman coild be a larger brand called DC Universe or something
Sometimes it is, just like Spidey, but there are lots of licensees that just want Batman. For a long time, Donkey Kong was part of the Mario license, but with the theme parks and movies they split the license into two. Because DK has more value than it used to, it warrants a split license. Batman is the same way. Why would a license pay for an all-encompassing DC license if they don't want to make Green Lantern or Hawk Girl products?

>Do you think all of Pokémon's money comes from games?
You’d be surprised how many people underestimate how much merchandise makes up Pokemon’s profits. It’s probably changed now, but a few years back Mario’s profits from games were larger than Pokemon but it overall grossed much less than Pokemon because Mario merch is nowhere near as popular as Pokemon.
>>
>>58795515
Last I checked merch was well over half of pokemon’s profits and a little under 75%, while videogames made up the smallest category just behind “other”, and it should go without saying that most of that comes from the mobileshit than the actual games. Not exactly that surprising if you give it more than a second of thought
>Mario’s profits from games were larger than Pokemon but it overall grossed much less than Pokemon because Mario merch is nowhere near as popular as Pokemon
For what it’s worth nintendo mainly focuses on videogames at their core than shit like merch. Sure that’s been changing as of late with the movies and the themepark but even then that’s largely offloaded onto third-parties and more of a divestment than a shift. Outside of that nintendo doesn’t do much regarding merch and other related shit. Compare splatoon, one of their hottest new ip’s, to say kirby and they basically squandered what could’ve been a juggernaught of an ip
>>
>>58795443
Obviously all of that shit contributes, but that's just the thing - I literally don't see ANYTHING with Winnie the Pooh on it anywhere to even consider it the third largest franchise, whereas I see plenty of shit with Mickey Mouse or the princesses on it.

Funny, as /v/, /vp/, and 4chan as a whole say Pokémon died after Gen 2 and everything after that is pointless slop, like the little 90s nostalgia piggies they are
Go back to Ross Perot you fucking clowns
>>
>>58794918
>wouldn’t some of the shounens be covered under Jump of we’re calling that a brand

Shonen Jump is only counting magazine and volume sales.
>>
Notice how Mario is the only franchise on here that's primary a game franchise
>>
>>58794904
Now combine the numbers from all the Disney conglomerates together.
>>
>>58795686
Dishonest because Disney didn't actually make most of it, they just bought the companies that did

Nintendo was doing the lifestyle brand thing before Pokemon started development. Mario was at the forefront of that lifestyle brand. That approach fell to the wayside in the 90s, partly because it was overtaken by more campaign-specific blitzes like DKC/Play it Loud, and later Pokemon/GBC/Funtastic, and then abandoned during Iwata's "it's all about the games" initiative. It was during the Wii U's slump era that we saw a reversal, with them reviving the "World of Nintendo" brand for the Jakks Pacific toyline and making their own in-house toys like amiibo and the various Pokemon Go peripherals. Even now, with their games business the best its ever been, they're still sticking to that approach with products like Alarmo or the talking wonder flower.
>>
>>58795623
You’re acting like people on 4chan don’t repeat this but instead of gen 2 they say gen 4, the switch to 3d or dexit. Look into any waifufag thread and there’ll be some retard saying Pokemon is only still alive because of the girls as if there isn’t almost nonexistent merchandise featuring humans.
>>
All this means is that they can afford to make a good game and fucking refuse to.
>>
>>58795943
1. The money comes from merchandise
2. There's no reason to because Pokemon has a monopoly on the genre. Only when a franchise that can compete appears will they step their game up
>>
>>58795967
Yeah the games are just an excuse to introduce new mons to make toys of.

Everybody is an investment bro now. I watch my local scene turned from tons of local tournaments and meet & greets to just scalping box sets looking for the bigger fool to buy them.
>>
>is that another lazy shitty $60 switch game? fuck you i'm not buying it, boycott game freak!!!
>oh my god is that a pikachu plush with a santa hat for $40?? fuck yeah! i'm buying 5 and a few $17 sitting cuties i'm missing :)
