What are your steps to picking types/type coverage for your team? I'm kind of wanting to get into competitive play/pokemon showdown but I don't really know how incorporate the type chart into my team in a smart way. Is it just simply, pick one pokemon, then pick the second based on a type that can defend against types that are effective against your first pokemon, and repeat till you have six? What do you do? And how do you handle dual-types?

Also, if you don't approach building a team based on types, how do you factor in types? Thanks.

>pick 1-3 mons I want to build a team around
>add mons that benefit from said core and support it in some way (whether countering the core's counters or providing support via useful status moves)
>also make sure every type has something resistant to or immune to it on my team and no more than 3 mons weak to a given attacking type (this step optional if running hyper offense)
>also the team should have an immunity to earthquake and volt switch (i never have to go out of the way for this because I love ground and flying types)
