Why is USUM so hated on /vp/, while Emerald and Platinum are constantly sucked off here? All 3 are relatively similar enhancements over SM, RS and DP respectively. Nostalgia is the only reason I can think of.

The story is so much of a downgrade yet still has the same sluggish pacing as the original that unlike Emerald or Platinum which you can definitely recommend playing over RS and DP. SM vs USUM is a trade off between better story payoff or better gameplay/content. And even then, the new features aren’t even that great compared to the other third versions (wow a mid minigame, photo mode and a new way to shiny hunt and get legendaries) Not to mention them making it two versions instead of a single one and having fusion legendaries on the cover like BW2 makes it seem like they were tricking people into thinking were sequels
