Which one is better for me? I mostly want one for trading with X&Y and filling my Pokedex on them and shit but I'm unsure which would be better. Also, what special stuff is there about them should I know, is there anything like the friend safari in X&Y, or any location(s) that have Pokemon with a guaranteed 2x31iv like that, or anything else? What's worth mentioning about them?
>>58825381>What's worth mentioning about them?No BF
>>58825392>No Battle FrontierI assume that's what you're saying, and that's kind of a shame. Would have given me something interesting to do, but ultimately doesn't change my decision to get one or the other.
>>58825381>Which one is better for me?Search for a list of version differences >Also, what special stuff is there about them should I knowNothing that you need to before playing.
>>58825381ORAS is a fantastic game, one of the best ever in my opinion. You can get Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire, both are great. Just choose based on which exclusive Pokemon you prefer. Omega Ruby has Groudon, Latios and Dragalge, while Alpha Sapphire has Kyogre, Latias and Clawitzer, for example. You can get perfect IVs with the DexNav (which, by the way, is one of the best features Pokemon has ever made, and it's exclusive to ORAS).Also a personal advice: don't let the people whining about the lack of a Battle Frontier gaslight you. The Battle Frontier is really overrated anyway (I completed all of the Battle Frontier Symbols in Emerald back in the day, so I know what I'm talking about). ORAS replaces the Battle Frontier with the much more convenient Battle Maison (the same Battle Facility from XY, except you get better Multi Battle partners this time). Also, aside from buying ORAS, I would suggest that you also consider emulating the game, if you have a good enough smartphone. I'm currently playing ORAS on my smartphone and I'm having a great time (I also own the physical version of Alpha Sapphire, but I don't want to lose my progress there by restarting it, lol).
>>58825698Emulate how3DS emulators make my phone a hot brick and lags every like 20-30 secondsPhone is samsung S22 ultra
>>58825738Have you tried Azahar? It's honestly the only emulator that I know how to use for the 3DS. I have a mid-range phone and it works smoothly for me.
>>58825392Nobody cares about the Battle Frontier when the ORAS Battle Maison is much better.
>>58825381>I mostly want one for trading with X&Y and filling my Pokedex on them and shit but I'm unsure which would be better. You should check out which pokemon are exclusives to each version to decide which one would help you fill out your dex the most. That's the main difference. Aside from that, the other main difference is whether you fight Team Magma or Team Aqua in the story (both team will appear in both versions, but in each game the opposite team will only play a minor role, i.e. in Omage Ruby you fight Team Magma while Team Aqua only plays a minor role). Oh yeah, each team has a different cute girl, if you care about that.>Also, what special stuff is there about them should I know, is there anything like the friend safari in X&Y, or any location(s) that have Pokemon with a guaranteed 2x31iv like that, or anything else? There's the DexNav feature which lets you catch Pokemon with guaranteed IVs, higher chance of being shiny, chance of having their Hidden Ability, and chance of already having an egg move. Later in the game, after catching the cover legendary, DexNav also allows you to capture some Pokemon that are not native to Hoenn, letting you fill out your Pokedex. There's also the Roaming feature unlocked later in the game. It lets you catch a lot of past legendaries, some of which are exclusive to each version. There's also the "Mirage Spot" feature - each day, a different random island will be available with the Roaming feature, and they feature more Pokemon that are not native to Hoenn, letting you fill out your Pokedex. You use to be able to share your daily Mirage Spot online and take those of other players, but that's not available anymore, and you could use Street Pass to share them but not a lot of people are using that nowadays, so you'll most likely be locked to one island a day.The Battle Maison of XY returns - it's the exact same opponents, but you have access to some new Mega Evolution, and the Multi Battle mode has different partners
>>58825849>Battle Tower reskinThe Frontier had the tower + even more facilities How does Gamefreak’s boot taste like?
>>58826137The Frontier didn't have Triple battles, Rotation Battles, Inverse Battles, Battle Institute... All of these are in ORAS... But not in Emerald.
>>58825849>Nobody cares about the Battle FrontierThis. If you want proof, just look at all the people who defend Gen 5.
>>58825787Yes this is the one i used. When i loaded up XY the game just lags in the entire intro
I've just thought of another question; what if I bought a Japanese copy of the game? I don't speak Japanese.Would I be able to run the game on my 3DS still?Would I be able to set my language to English? If yes to the first two, would it set my region to any Pokemon caught in the game to JPN for the purpose of the Matsuda method, etc? What Vivilion type would I get?>>58825404>Nothing that you need to before playing.I was asking before buying rather than before playing, I'd like to know what I'm getting for my money in terms of game utility in these two 6th gen side games. I'm especially interested in what stuff is useful for capturing and breeding and generally benefiting Pokemon / shiny Pokemon.>>58825698>You can get perfect IVs with the DexNav (which, by the way, is one of the best features Pokemon has ever made, and it's exclusive to ORAS).I hope that's not too overpowered of a mechanic, breeding and raising perfect shiny Pokemon is my fave hobby in Pokemon.>>58825849I would have rather liked the Battle Frontier but updated, honestly all the towers and facilities since then haven't felt quite the same as the original. I never did get all gold stickers / medals or whatever it was but I was also over 20 years younger and didn't know nearly as much about Pokemon at the time so I'd have liked to get my revenge. Oh well, not the end of the world but it is a disappointment.>>58826257I guess.

>>58826645The 3DS is region-locked. Japanese games only run on Japanese 3DS, American games only run on American 3DS, and so on.However, if you want to catch foreign Pokemon on 3DS, you don't need a foreign copy of the game. All Pokemon games on 3DS let you choose your language at the beginning of the game - regardless of whether it's a Japanese copy, American copy or other. There's multiple languages available, I don't remember them all but there's English, French, Japanese and some more. A Pokemon's "origin" is decided by what language you're playing in, so playing an American copy in Japanese will you give Japanese Pokemon. Just be aware that you can't change language once your game is started - the only time you can change is when starting a new game.Vivillon doesn't appear in ORAS so I assume you're asking about XY. Vivillon's pattern isn't decided by the game's origin but by the country and region entered in your 3DS settings. Once a game of XY is started, that region is "locked in" for that savefile, meaning changing your region in your settings won't change what pattern Vivillon has. Furthermore, a Vivillon's pattern is saved in its data even before evolving (while its a Spewpa or Scatterbug). Scatterbug appears fairly early in the game, so what you can do is start a new game, catch Scatterbug, send it to another game (or Bank), change your region to a different pattern, start a new game, catch Scatterbug, etc. repeat for different patterns
sapphirethe sea team's base being in a sea cave makes sensethe volcano team's base being in a sea cave does notplay emerald if you want the correct hoenn experience with regards to team magmaregarding region shit, 3ds is incredibly easy to install cfw on and you can change your region at will so ignore all of that stuff unless you're scared of modding or something
To expand upon DexNav stuff. It seems tedious and lame initially, but you can unlock egg moves on wild Pokémon the more level up the DexNav for that Pokémon. For example, you can be running around with a Taillow that knows Brave Bird before you hit Petalburg Woods if you’re willing to invest the time. Hammer Arm Slakoth, Focus Punch Shroomish with Poison Heal (which is maximized by keeping Shroomish unevolved until it learns Spore). These are all things before the first gym, and each new batch of Pokémon on a route expands the options you can do. These are all EXP Share is lame, but I used a rotating party of moms for most of the playthrough and I had a great time with. It was the first Pokémon game I made a living dex for. Also, once you get the national dex after defeating Groudon/Kyogre, Pokémon not normally found in Hoenn appear in the DexNav on all routes.Soaring is a feature I didn’t realize I liked so much, and the Pokémon you can catch in Mirage Spots are cool.
>>58825381omega ruby is better because while both evil teams are retarded Maxie has a 1/10 while Archie has a 0/10. Archie's plan will genocide everyone AND kill pokemon. Maxie's plan will kill water pokemon but A. Counter global warming and B. More living space for humans and land pokemon. Therefore since Maxie is slighly more reasonable, OR is the canon one.

>>58826806>The 3DS is region-locked.Is it? I'm seeing some 3DS on eBay that are advertised as "region free".>A Pokemon's "origin" is decided by what language you're playing in, so playing an American copy in Japanese will you give Japanese Pokemon. That's really shitty if true. I'd like to finally be able to source my own foreign Dittos and stuff, but I don't speak a word of foreign myself.>but by the country and region entered in your 3DS settings. So couldn't I enter Japan or whatever as my region in the 3DS and have JPN region Pokemon that way? >>58827020the "region-free" ones are just pre-modded to remove the region lock, which you could do yourself if you'd likealso, lisia is in both versions, she's just tied to pokemon contests
>>58827020>Is she version specific or anything?nah, shes in either
>>58827020>I'd like to finally be able to source my own foreign Dittos and stuff, but I don't speak a word of foreign myself. You could try playing in German, French or Spanish, even if you don't speak them, they're the closest to English. It's easy to figure out which moves and items do what and usually the games are linear enough that you can progress without understand the text. However I must say ORAS aren't the easiest games to catch Ditto in because they only appear in Mirage Spots. There's 33 Mirage Spots and each day the game randomly decides which one is available, Ditto only appears in 2 of them.>So couldn't I enter Japan or whatever as my region in the 3DS and have JPN region Pokemon that way?No. Only Vivillon has a "region" trait which decides its pattern. Other pokemon don't have a "region", they have a "language".
she was the game i didn't like so we went the other one first,
>>58825698>>58826899So I'm coming back to the thread to ask about the DexNav, since I've been thinking about it.If I were to restart my copy of HeartGold in German or whatever, played through it to route 10/11 so I could start mass catching Dittos since that's the earliest you can catch them in any game, then transferred the best ones from that catching spree up to ORAS, exactly how much would I be able to change their IVs?Would I be able to make all their IVs 31? Would I be able to choose which IVs I change? Could I do say an IV of 30 for Hidden Powers, or 0 for attack with special attackers? Is there anything else I'd be able to do like change the nature of them? How powerful is DexNav in this regard?
>>58827513>If I were to restart my copy of HeartGold in German or whatever HeartGold does not have language selection. The only way to play it in German is to own a German copy. The language selection only started with generation 6 and onward (so the 3DS and Switch games)>played through it to route 10/11 so I could start mass catching Dittos since that's the earliest you can catch them in any gameI think you mean route 34/35. Route 10/11 are in Kanto and Dittos don't appear there. Now route 34/35 IS pretty early, however Ditto only has a 5% spawn rate in route 34 and 4% in route 35. Route 47 is much later in the game but they have a 41% spawn rate there.>then transferred the best ones from that catching spree up to ORAS, exactly how much would I be able to change their IVs?You wouldn't. DexNav and other mechanics that manipulate IVs are all to manipulate the IV of a Pokemon before you capture them. Once a Pokemon is captured (or hatched from an egg), it's IVs can't be changed.Generation 7 did introduce Hyper Training, which makes a Pokemon's IV effectively 31 for battles - but it retains its original IVs for other purposes, like calculating Hidden Power or breeding.DexNav, once you've increased your search level, lets you capture Pokemon that have at least 3 max IVs. Which 3 stats it is are random. The only other way to catch 3 max IV dittos in gen6 is through the Friend Safari in XY, but with online dead, that would require you to find someone who has a Ditto in their Friend Safari and meet them in person. Later generation made it even easier to catch high IV Dittos, if you're willing to postpone it to a later generation (In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you can catch guaranteed 5 IVs Dittos through raids)
>>58828202>HeartGold does not have language selection.Well that sucks, this whole diff language Ditto plan gets more difficult by the minute.>I think you mean route 34/35.Yeah, I have no fucking clue why I had 10/11 on the brain.>You wouldn't. DexNav and other mechanics that manipulate IVs are all to manipulate the IV of a Pokemon before you capture them. Once a Pokemon is captured (or hatched from an egg), it's IVs can't be changed.Well that sucks, again. So not only are the Dittos stupidly deep into ORAS, I'd have to catch them specifically in there on a German or whatever language version to get an actual set of good foreign Dittos done. How long is the process during each capture to ensure that the Pokemon has the best IVs possible?>The only other way to catch 3 max IV dittos in gen6 is through the Friend Safari in XY, but with online dead, that would require you to find someone who has a Ditto in their Friend Safari and meet them in person.Actually I still have my original X save file intact from 2014 and a solid 80 people or so in my friend list, including one Ditto safari, I am strongly considering just mass farming Dittos from there and calling it a day, but they wouldn't be foreign Dittos and that does make a difference for me.>Later generation made it even easier to catch high IV Dittos, if you're willing to postpone it to a later generation (In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you can catch guaranteed 5 IVs Dittos through raids)I will never ever play gen 8 or later. Dexit, the absolute state of Sword & Shield, and the final nail in the coffin being the Switch 2, means I've completely given up on Nintendo as a company and I've reverted myself to 6th gen as a result. 6th is in just enough of a sweet spot for me where it has advanced enough mechanics in many ways for breeding and stuff to satisfy me, while still being decent enough in other ways. Plus I can still transfer from earlier gens to 6th gen completely offline no problem, good enough for me m8.
>>58828257>How long is the process during each capture to ensure that the Pokemon has the best IVs possible?First, you need to access the Dittos. You unlock Roaming just before getting access to the 8th gym, so it's fairly late in the game. Then you need to get lucky and get the correct Mirage Spot. Each day, you are given a Mirage Spot at random from a list of 33. Mirage Spots are little islands you can visit that have Pokemon you can't catch elsewhere in the game. Two Mirage Spots have Ditto so it's roughly 1/16 chance every day. One is in a cave and one is in grass, I think grass makes it a bit easier since it's easier to avoid non-Ditto encounters. So once you're in the spot, you need to increase your Search Level (this is a stat shown in the DexNav menu). You have a search level for each Pokemon. It increases by 1 every time you encounter that Pokemon. The higher it is, the better your odds of high IVs. It can go up to 999 but getting that high does nothing, your chances maxes out at 100. At 100 you have 10% chance of the Pokemon have 3 guaranteed max IV, 25% chance of having 2 guaranteed max IV, and 10% chance of having 1 guaranteed max IV. This number never goes down, so once you've encounter Ditto 100 times, you always have the max chance. The number of guaranteed IV is shown to you before the encounter too, and it's only the number of guaranteed IV, so when the game shows you that an encounter will have 2 guaranteed max IVs, it might still have more than 2 - it's just that it has at least 2 at max.DexNav has a plethora of other benefits like higher chance of shinies, egg moves, hidden abilities and such.
