It's OK but something unique to their split evos would've helped.

I want to like them more but the lazy designs make a lot of them hard to enjoy, and the type matchups are miserable most of the time since dark and psychic pokemon are relatively rare, while just about everything else resists them

I like them. I don't just use them at the beginning of games, but sometimes throughout the entirety of my playthroughs.

Still my favorite type after 9 gens, next to water and poison. Gen 5 bugs are my favorites, and gen 5 was imo the best gen in terms of bug pokemon additions followed by gen 7.
Unlikely to happen but I hope we get a bug starter someday, or at least a bug/dragon pseudo. And a proper bug legendary.

I'm a filthy casual and Pokemon games are easy enough to beat with any team if you grind enough so I'll sometimes use multiple of the same type on a team, including bug, if I like the Pokemon available in that gen enough.
