The best we got was Korrina saying Absol Z was recently discovered, but Taunie said something similar about Dragonite in the main story so as far we know they could have found about all the current megas last year.The only brand new mega in-universe, the only pokemon people didn't know it could mega evolve until the game events happened, is Zygarde.

You have make a "Bad Dreams" Cruller that sports it's exact color scheme to even open the portal.
