It wasn't just them, but it was probably just an excuse to show a few of the new models before gen 10 proper. Remember SV were covid games and their development schedule got royally fucked with by both the pandemic and Nintendo deciding to delay the switch 2.

The small changes to meshes doesn't require new hardware, and even if they spent time making a new set of enhanced models for pro/2, they can be scaled for s1. There's nothing about the Switch 1 that forced Charizard to have a dumb brow bone. That being said, there is probably a scenario where they might withhold updated models for higher res games. If they felt the new models would be wasted on SV, they may have held back those changes for ZA or Gen 10. We know they do these rolling changes because the new Pikachu design has been around for years, and is only being implemented now as part of the anniversary celebration.

So the worst part about them is that the poly count is noticeably lower if youre staring.But with Venusaur, its Mega focuses almost entirely on the plant, its body stays nearly identical. Its really jarring.
I'm glad they redid Ho-Oh and Lugia, they look so much better now.

Typhlosion's model looks pretty much perfect, it just had incredibly stale animations, that didn't let it show off its signature mane flames forever. A lot of attack animations are very limp, and dont have strong key frames, and a lot of assorted animations like fainting or idle poses are same-y and blend together. But thats not an issue with the model.
They're the first generation, but also probably because people on the Internet kept crying about Charizard flying and Blastoise's cannons.
