>Accidently kill legendary
>It's gone forever
Wtf, did boomers really live like this?
>>
>>58845244
We saved before the fight usually and didn’t rely on auto-save.
>>
>>58845244
Skill issue.
>>
>>58845244
Can confirm we all saved before them as a kid. Lone figure deep in a dungeon? Their location aligning with the stories told by NPCs of legendary and destructive pokemon? Hell yeah we wanted those fuckers on our team.
Every kid was always told to save and save often with anything electronic back in the day. Manually saving was drilled into us with PCs, with vidya, with anything that could do it really. It took a while before you could actually rely on something electronic to not just randomly die and reset your progress.

>HP reaches 0

Design flaw, Z-A wins again!!

how the fuck else would you do it? expect them to magically resurrect?
>>
>>58845310
they do magically resurrect in newer games
>>
The same happend to me once. Always remember to save before a legendary.
>>
>>58845244
Boomers would spend hours resetting and mashing A to throw 99 ultra balls at legendaries only for the kids a year older than them to say using legendaries is cheating, then they get boxed and unused forever.
>>
>>58845478
that's...insane. The newest ones I've played were Ultra Sun (great game) and Let's Go Pikachu, which I was horrified with. What should have been an awesome 3rd remake of Gen 1 was kiddie slop. I doubt the other new ones for Switch are much better
>>
>>58845505
I use my legendaries and love when /vp/ bitches and whines when I post screens.
>>
>>58845524
Legendaries have been respawning after you beat the Elite 4 since Platinum.
>>
>>58845524
>I doubt the other new ones for Switch are much better
They aren't, but scarlet and violet have a fun online scene. Main game is pretty bad though.
Though you should probably just avoid it entirely and stick with battle sims.
>>
>>58845606
I was itching to play a Pokemon game but instead of ordering what sounds to be really bad/inferior modern titles for Switch I was just going to download a rom hack of Green that also has all 151 and maybe some other content
>>
I definitely don't mind that legendaries respawn now, but like everyone else in this thread has said, it seriously wasn't a big deal. Everyone knew to save constantly, especially before fighting a legendary. If you didn't know, you'd definitely get that advice at some point on the playground.

Plus, we were versed in the advanced and esoteric technique of "trade so you get the Pokemon in your Pokedex, then trade back." So it was only ever an issue on the off chance that you unexpectedly encountered and killed a roamer that you specifically wanted to catch, and also you hadn't saved in a while.

>>58845505
I really don't remember that happening. What I do remember was agreeing beforehand if legendaries were allowed, and even that only tended to happen when you were battling an older kid.
>>
>>58845244
Sadly, along with:
>No movepools worth shit
>Broken type chart that doesn't work
>glitches out the ass
>>
>>58845247
>>58845279
Do we not still save before a fight?
>>
>>58845977
I still do it, but more out of habit
>>
>>58845244
Save scumming was already a thing.
>>
>>58845706
are you implying that Gen 1 is somehow inferior to the slop from gen 3 on?
>>
;_; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bfv2g5batno
>>
>>58845244
You didn't even "have to" save right before since it's not like the game saves automatically after a fight or anything. It could just go down like:
>kill legendary
>realize it doesn't respawn
>turn off game because even a kid would realize losing their progress since their last save is less important than getting another chance at a unique mon
>eventually make it back it legendary and catch it this time

Only a fucking idiot would accidentally kill the legendary and then save, since at that point you'll have played the game for a couple hours at least and know how saving works.
>>
>>58846816
Also fucked up last point, was meant to say "make it back to legendary"
>>
>>58846816
yeah and you would be saving pretty regularly anyway, so worse case scenario if you didn't know to save beforehand you would kill it and lose like an hour or two of progress at most, probably less. and then you would learn your lesson and save in front of legendaries going forward. not a big deal.
>>
>>58846816
Also keep in mind that the manual tells you some Pokemon are unique and only give you one chance to catch them, and that the very first "legendary" you encounter is Snorlax, who there's specifically two of just in case you kill one and realize your fuckup later.

But in general everyone just tried catching every Pokemon they encountered and didn't already have. It's a no-brainer.
>>
>>58845977
saves automatically after fights now
>>
Like other said, we learned to save scum before, especially for gym battles.

I think I lost my first Zapdos, but I distinctly remember resetting for Mewtwo. I think I used the master ball on Moltres.
>>
>>58845977
Some games don’t even give you the option to manually save cause they use auto saves.
>>
>>58847129
>games
only ZA has no way to turn off autosaves
>>
>>58846132
I'm not just implying the buggy unfinished slop that was Gen 1 is inferior, I'm stating it as fact.

As someone who lived through pokemania - let's be real, you didn't and you're pretending to be older for street cred on an anonymous website, good job faggot - you couldn't fucking pay me to play RBY over FRLG or GSC over HGSS. The remakes are better in every single way, especially HGSS with deeper movepools, the physical/special split, running shoes, and all the other QoL tweaks it has.
>>
>>58847294
seen a lot of hgss praise today and that makes me happy
it's objectively the best pokemon game by far, glad the hgss hate meme seems to be dying down
>>
>>58847129
theres a name for such games, it's called "crap", what kind of mentally disabled, money-hating developer would FORCE auto saves and not even give the player the option to turn them off?
>>
>>58847305
Johto hate was always manufactured by Pokemon Mentally Challenged.
>>
>>58847471
>confessing to being a zoomer
