Focus Punch was a well-balanced high-risk high-reward move that rewarded prediction. But with the introduction of Close Combat, a more spammable move with a near non-existent "drawback", there's no reason to ever use it.

Close Combat should trap you for the next turn. The drawback can be mitigated by switching out, but if you trap yourself then you'll have to survive at least one turn with low defense. It'll also make Choice CC hilarious because you can't switch out at all lol.

Follow Me + Focus Punch means you had better protect correctly or have a spread move.
If Urshifu uses it then you need to outspeed it and use a spread move because protect won't fix it.

They should differentiate those desu.

Justification is that SD is now getting up close and personal with the opponent before kaboom, so it'll blast them regardless, while Explosion is just Explosion.

I reall like this, nice idea.
Though for years I've maintained the idea that Self Destruct should have the effect of stopping your opponents from moving that turn if they survive, to balance it against Explosion since it has lower power.
Or basically "Self Destruct causes both opponents to Flinch"
