In the Gen 1 Kanto games (IMO the only canon Kanto games) the following Pokemon are not used by any Trainers in the game. See pic related. The Legendaries make sense, so we don't need to talk about those. The Rival only uses Venusaur if you pick Squirtle, and many would argue this is the non-canon starter choice for Red. He uses Pidgeot in RGB but NOT in Yellow, which many would claim is the canon version due to Red's team in GSC. He uses Eevee and its Eeveelutions in Yellow, but we have never gotten any clue as to which form is canon. Outside of this, no other trainer in the game uses these Pokemon. The top rows of pic related are Pokemon that NO NPC uses in-game. But why? What’s up with Golem? Alakazam, Machamp and Gengar are all used by other trainers, so everyone in Kanto knows that trade evolution is a thing. You mean to tell me that not a single person has evolved their Graveler this way? Hm... Clefairy is rare, sure, but trainers do use Clefairy + Nidoqueen, Nidoking, and Wigglytuff, so Moon Stone evolution is clearly known. That excuse fails. There is a trainer outside of Celadon that has a Poliwrath, but for all we know this might be a non-battling Poliwrath. Outside of him, there are no trainers with a Poliwrath. Porygon is available to all in the Game Corner, though that is a hard one to obtain so understandable. There's a girl in Mt. Moon that tells you she's looking for fossils she's heard about. Then you get either the Dome Fossil or Helix Fossil later. There is no evidence to suggest that these are the ONLY fossils in the cave, and the Cinnabar Lab is known for restoring fossils, so other trainers would surely have the fossil Pokemon as well? There being two Snorlax confirms that more Snorlax exist, so no reason there either. But even with all of these possible answers, I cannot think of a single reason why no other trainers would have Psyduck, Krabby, Scyther, Electabuzz, Magmar, Pinsir, Ditto or Dratini.
>>58845437the ones no trainer used? those are the ones the protagonist canonically caught.also because venusaur is only used by blue and no other trainer, it's the canon starter he chooses. His japanese name is Green after all.
>>58845472So according to you, every Pokemon pictured in the OP (except for the rival mons) are mons the Protag canonically caught. That's BS for two reasons:1. Canonically, the protag would only have one of the fossil mons. But why does no-one else have them?2. Most of the mons in the first two rows of the OP can be caught repeatedly in the wild - why is the the Protag the ONLY person to catch them?
>>58845472>the trainer caught every single Psyduck and Krabby in the gameOk fanfictard
>>58845437>There is no evidence to suggest that these are the ONLY fossils in the cave, and the Cinnabar Lab is known for restoring fossilsThere's really no special reason to think that there are more, either. The girl could just be on a fool's errand, because the fossils were already claimed. The only other one we see is in a museum, and I'm pretty sure that's also the only place anyone mentions the Cinnabar Lab. Fully formed fossils are extremely rare in real life, at least for creatures of that size. There are species where only one has been found. Now, I understand it's a little weird that a single autist digging a hole would be the one to uncover two of them, but that's just how the cookie crumbles sometimes. I'd be willing to bet that there *are* more fossils in Mt. Moon, but they're buried way deep and would require a pretty well-funded operation to dig up.>SnorlaxAgain, it's a bit of a reach to assume that Snorlax is in any way common just because there's more than one that we see. Since beating Snorlax causes it to return to "the mountains," my guess would be that they tend to live someplace outside the Gen 1 game world. I'd also guess that, while it's not at all a one-off, there really aren't many of them at all.>DratiniIsn't Lance the only guy in Gen 1 to use dragons? I think there's some implication that, if a Pokemon can only be found in the Safari Zone, it's very rare to begin with. And Dratini is hard to find even by that standard: You need what seems to be the best fishing rod on the market, and it's a fairly rare spawn with a low catch rate. You've basically ruled out everyone except people who are both highly dedicated fishing enthusiasts *and* adventurous enough to go on a safari. That said, those are the only Pokemon on your list that I can really come up with an explanation for. Like don't ask me why nobody thought to evolve their Poliwhirl, for instance.
>>58845776Dratini is a Game Corner prize, he's not Safari Zone exclusive.
>>58845838That's a fair point, but if you look at the other "high tier" Game Corner prizes (aside from, weirdly, Clefable in JP Blue), they're either Porygon or other Pokemon that are otherwise Safari Zone exclusive. I know that 2800 coins isn't some insane hurdle for the player, but the fact that Trainers don't use these Pokemon and you have to get them under special circumstances makes me pretty confident that GameFreak intended them to be very hard to obtain in-universe.
>>58845885The Pokedex says Dratini was considered a mythical Pokemon until very recently when someone confirmed they exist.
>>58845437Dratini makes sense that nobody uses it. Dratini is supposed to be as rare as a legendary Pokemon. Lance's 2 Dragonairs and a Dragonite is a Kaiba's triple Blue-Eyes moment
