No, if anything they were what made new generations fun. I loved seeing all the evos and pre-evos from Gen IV after coming back into the series with Pearl and wanted more of them. Gen V is second favorite after Gen IV and they missed a great opportunity to really go crazy with cross-gen evos.>Gen V had a new set of Pokemon>Gen VI could have been Gen V's Gen II with evos out the ass>Gen VII could have been Gen III with a few more evos but mostly new Pokemon>All of the above accumulates with Gen VIII giving every past gen evos and pre-evos while not really adding new PokemonStuff like Kleavor, Ursaluna, Obstagoon, Basculegion and Clodsire should have been in Gen VI. Most of Gen I's lines should have split evos by now, not regionals, split evos. The King's Rock and Dawn Stone are still heavily underused.

If a regional gets an exclusive evolution, so should the classic, in order to balance things out. Basculegion is more dubious of a choice as the only form of Basculin that can evolve into it is Gen 8, effectively a regional of the entire line like Alolan Vulpix.

Z-A was pretty disappointing since it didn't have any after PLA introduced several.Fingers crossed Mightyena gets one in Gen 10. One of my all-time favorite Pokemon and I've been hooked on the idea since Khu's Bloodmoon riddle.
