What is your honest opinion about the Sevii Islands in FRLG?

I personally love the Sevii Islands, but I've seen a lot of people online claiming that the Sevii Islands are unfinished and incomplete, and that they were supposed to have more content, which was ultimately scrapped.

Do we know if this is true based on the Teraleak and other sources?

Better post-game than ZA

Why should I critique something based off of what was planned or scrapped that should have been there?
The Sevii Islands were part of a perfect way to round off the Kanto experience in a meaningful way since in the original games, the games just sort of end after the Elite Four. Their only real fault in my opinion was cutting the full functionality out of the Trainer Tower for international releases, fucking up Altering Cave, and not fully crossing the bridge between those games and Ruby/Sapphire by not having a contest hall on Five Island (after the Team Rocket warehose is dealt with and the E4 rematch battles, they should have had it turn into a Contest Hall).
Other than that, it was a great bridge for people that played Ruby/Sapphire since there were a decent number of Johto Pokemon you could get there. The entire gen 3 ecosystem got a bit tedious after these games, but at the time it was kind of cool since it added value/weight to trades between people. Sevii sort of allowed you to think outwardly to what your true endgame was due to the additions of the trainer card stickers that were suggesting that you communicate with others a lot more. It's a bit open ended in that way.

Would have been great if they had some more Pokemon variety, just a teensy sprinkling of Hoenn mons instead of just Pidgeys and Meowths for the zillionth time with some rare Johto stuff

They're not "people", they're genwarring faggots. People like Sevii Islands, always have, always will.

Unless they’re not casuals and actually want a battle facility to play.

Their only problem was not having the islands be bigger.

They are okay. The way they are shoved into the main game is weird, but helps with the end game level curve.

HOWEVER, that goddamed quest to be able to trade with RSE is awful.

I'm not one to engage in Kantolatry, but I think in a vacuum I kinda dig the idea of segregating Gen 2 and 3 content to a sui generis area in order to leave mainland Kanto more or less intact from RBY. The issue is twofold, however:
1) They didn't go far enough with it. No soft soil? No contests?
2) A lot of it could've realistically have simply been shoved into the mainland, even if just in the postgame (would've probably avoided stuff like there being two daycares now), which is what every other remake ended up doing (though then again, Kantolatry (which was somehow already a thing not even one (1) decade into the franchise's history btw))

With all that said, I kinda consider them part of the Kanto experience now and was a bit disappointed they didn't make it to LegPee.

They're the best part of the games. Kanto sucks

Sevii Islands included a Battle Tower.

I finished Fire Red for the time since I was a little kid a few days ago, so I have a very fresh perspective on this. Overall I like them. Archipelagos are my favorite landmass and Johto is my favorite region so I think it would be impossible for me to hate them. There's a lot of ingame content to do here but not all of it lands, but aside Luxury Balls being very obnoxious to get this doesn't hurt anything too badly. Finally being able to catch new pokemon feels like a massive reward, but I wish they were at an appropriate level. I guess I can't complain too much though when this is probably the easiest game to get Heracross in.
The story is fine but the end is disappointing. As a kid I had no idea what was going on, and even as an adult I wouldn't have gotten it if I didn't know Archer's ace was Houndoom, because Archer didn't get a unique sprite. Honestly Let's GO, despite the continuity fuckery that goes on in that game, provides a better lead-in to Johto.
Overall though I like them and would love to see them in a more modern game.
